A decent film that surprisingly has a lot of heart. What I loved the most was the father-son relationship, which isn’t done as often anymore nor is it done very well in films that do try it in today’s world.
One of my favourite movies of all time! Fun fact: The lead animator of Roxanne was a woman called Nancy Beiman. She handled most of Roxanne in the movie. In a letter to me she revealed they decided to have her animated by a man for the intro scene to give her a different vibe more fitting to Max's fantasy image of her.
I ABSOLUTELY FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS MOVIE LAST YEAR, I’m just so sad Roxanne never showed up in the sequel this movie needs a third movie with Roxanne in it
I just thought of a good plot for the film. Have Max and Roxanne get married and have a couple of children of their own. And I have a very similar trend that Max experience when he went fishing with his own dad but much worse. The kids are kind of out of whack. The first kid who is a boy, he gets himself in the trouble with the police with graffiti and such, and the girl is kind of a control freak and is more into technology and loves it more than anything else.
Roxanne is seen in a photo of her an max at a school dance that goofy shows to Donald in the New Duck Tales (season 3). Also in duck tales there is a background character in season that resembles an older Roxanne with a kid.
I had a crush on Roxanne in 1995, but as a kid I never thought that dream sequence objectified or sexualized her, she was just idealized and really pretty. Boys of a certain age daydream about girls and emotions run strong, but when you’re like 12 years old it’s usually not sexual. I related to Max so much in so many ways, especially because of his uncomfortable relationship with his dad. Probably why I love this movie still. Btw, the concert venue in Los Angeles is a carbon copy of the Inglewood Forum!
Maybe if you were 12 at the time u wouldn't see it, but max is like 15. Puberty's hittin. I don't think it was a wet dream or anything but they're almost literally rolling in the hay. (But it's wheat)
I'unno if this counts or not, but when I was rewatching the final concert as an adult, I noticed that Powerline isn't exactly smiling when Max shows up onstage, but instead trying to contain frustration in front of the audience. Considering a random guy and his son showed up on stage and broke a very expensive screen with his security guard's face, I don't blame him.
A Goofy movie is definitely one of my favorite films when I was growing up watching and I definitely didn't know some of the details by Pauly shore, and power line being a reference to 70s rock stars one of my favorites and I'm glad the videos like this exist cuz he gives you more details about some of your favorite films in 3 years it's going to be the 30th anniversary I wonder if they're going to release it in theaters again I mean most of the adults who for artists from have their own kids I want to it'll be a perfect way to bonding with them just like how goofy is trying to bond with his son life imitating art in my opinion.
I also like to point out that there are two MTV stars in this movie, Pauly Shore (from his Totally Pauly series (which I’m also surprised that you didn’t mention the series in this video)) and Julie Brown (from her Just Say Julie series (Who played one of the secondary characters of the film named Lisa)).
An actual Michael Jackson character is in the movie aside from Powerline... In the "On the Open Road" song in the limo you'll see a glittery glove sticking out of the sun roof.
As a kid I couldn’t stand Pete’s presence in the movie, but as you get older you begin to understand where he’s coming from a bit more. You might not agree with his parenting style, but he IS there, building memories with his son. Ideally you’re Loved AND Respected as a parent. As a kid for whatever reason I thought Max was selfish, because Goofy is so nice and lovable, and Max was so pouty for most of the movie, but Max DID go on the road trip (If begrudgingly), and he's actually enjoying himself towards the end of it. Goofy throws a hissy fit just because Max wants to take a detour and do ONE thing that he likes doing. It's just interesting how your perspective changes with age & experience.
You mentioned all the things only adults would notice in the movie, but completely overlooked Bigfoot dancing to Staying Alive, and he impersonates John Travolta's dance moves from the movie Staying Alive.
Funny story about the whole car lighters scenario, when I was a kid our truck got stranded on an isolated back road in the winter. Luckily we'd just left the local firewood seller and had two empty metal water buckets and a stack of newspapers in the bed. Dad went to get help and the truck soon turned into a refrigerator so we got out, cleared off the bed of the truck pulled the tarps from the stuff, put wood in the metal buckets and with the old newspapers and the car lighter in the truck made our own little truck bed campfires to stay warm till dad got back with the tow truck. He called me, my brother, mom and my sister "the truck-bed campfire kids" for the rest of the season. 😄😄
It’s relatively common knowledge that Walt Disney (the man himself, yes) lost his mom in a carbon monoxide poisoning regarding the house HE BOUGHT for his parents. Most (if not all) of the movies made by him or in his name; out of respect…(an outdated thing to the vast majority of Gen-Z)…have a mother that doesn’t exist (simply ‘missing’), was killed, or dies in the film. Most psychologists hypothesize that this was his way of working through that trauma he (unfairly) blamed himself for.
To be fair, most fiction for young people (books as well as movies) feature protagonists with parents who are either physically or emotionally absent. It's necessary that the young hero/heroine solve the conflict, whatever it is, on their own. If he/she can simply ask a parent for advice, there goes the conflict, and thus the plot.
As a sexually dimorphic species BOTH sexes objectify the other. One for eggs, the other for resources. We always have and always will; And no amount of gender studies indoctrination is going to change it! Also while Goofy is far from a model father, imagine trying to have a logical discussion with a hormonal teenager. The vacation was absolutely the right thing to do and is the catalyst for the adventure and Atonement between the two! Imagine if the whole movie took place in Max’s bedroom with his father having a rational “adult” lecture with his son about life. Oh wait that’s University…
I think you are the one who is indoctrinated, especially with an oversimplifying view on life. It's just a concept. A nice try to understand life at best. Life is far more complex than you clearly want it to be. Good luck fighting it. That's like trying to make a cat bark
I appreciate the movie now more as an adult than a kid. I just saw it as a silly (goofy) movie, but now that i see the themes and relate to a lot of them its a lot better. The communication aspect is why its one of my favorites. Goofy drags max on this trip instead of talking to him, and any time max does try to talk Goofy interrupts and stonewalls him. Max whines and complains any chance he gets to talk instead of explaining his situation with Roxanne and why he just doesn't want to go this specific week until he just gets so angry he cant communicate effectively anymore, but once they both let their guards down and talk everything clicks. Omg and the hi dad soup scene! 😢 the conversation gets awkward when goofy mentions max used to say "i love you", but max just decides to spell "hi dad". They had a soft moment but max isnt ready to say it, and Goofy respects that and doesn't say it first to push it on him. The writing and symbolism in this movie are so much better than it has any reason to be!
The explanation of Powerline was completely wrong. Even as kids, we all knew that was Tevin. We didn't care who he was designed/modeled after. Tevin Campbell had a cartoon. That's what we knew. lol
Since the movie indicates that both Walt Disney and Xavier Cugat existed in the world Goofy inhabits, they must have been anthropomorphic animals like everyone else. I think it's safe to assume Disney was a mouse (Mickey's rival Mortimer was modeled after Disney himself supposedly), but what was Cugat? I'm assuming some sort of tropical bird like José Carioca.
What about that guy who is making out with the girl in black tube top at the high school when max is singing “after today”? He asks Roxanne out in the auditorium before max does the powerline impression.
Max is goin through Puberty It happens to EVERYONE When they Enter the age of 11. Does Pauly Shore need a Credit, Maybe. Peg-leg Pete has been a Disney Staple since the Beginning with Steamboat Willie. However in Goof Troop the Show that Spawned A Goofy Movie Pete became Goofy's Gruff Next Door Neighbor. Which is Why Powerline sounds like Prince, And Dances like Bobby Brown, and Michael Jackson, who was in Disney's Captain EO, it wasn't that Impressive, Maybe it's because I saw EO on THE TUBE and not at a Disney theme park. Goofy: Hey Max I got a call from the Principal, He says your gonna end up in the Electric Chair. Max: Yeah, that's Exactly what I Expect someone like him with no sense of humor to say. 8-Track in Goofy's Car. It's an old car, and the Camera came from that Cartoon he was in. Early VHS, Camcorders Recorded in Black and White, but the Picture was always Color. + Walt Disney was a Smoker, And as a Consequence So were Disney Characters like Mickey Mouse and Goofy.
Im from the 2 thousands and I like the 90s songs will miss these movies kids these days not gonna know how these movies wore good and funny then todays
I watched this movie then I was seven or eight when it came out the adult jokes did go over my head back then but I'm 30 now and hearing the adult jokes makes me laugh from kid shows and movies but I don't watch them anymore because I'm adult and I'm watching adult shows and cartoons but I also watch interesting stuff to that I did not know about.
What did you think of "A Goofy Movie" when it first came out?
I didn’t see it when it first came out because I was born in 1999, but I do remember watching the movie on VHS a lot when I was a kid.
One of the best movies Disney ever made, too bad they’re so dam watered down now
I liked the movie and felt Max was very disrespectful to Goofy.
A decent film that surprisingly has a lot of heart. What I loved the most was the father-son relationship, which isn’t done as often anymore nor is it done very well in films that do try it in today’s world.

Uhh… 3 and a half?
Bro I just found out Pete was a cat like 3 months ago 😂😂😂😂 this whole time I thought he was a dog 😂😂😂

Still one of the best movies Disney made, sad how they went out compared what they use to be.
It's kinda insane that children today don't know what cassettes and car lighters are. Makes me feel hella old and I'm not even 30 yet
Well, they grew up in an everchanging world where every Tik Tok trend and meme is old in a week. I am not surprised
makes me feel old talking to kids who are like than 13 when i'm not even 18

But bro I love this movie in my childhood and still do today, great story, great comedy for the whole fam and anyone.
Exactly! Same here.
Still love this movie
That was no cassette, that was an 8-track, which was outdated even in the mid ‘90s.

My favorite Disney movie. Power line was Bobby Brown no doubt that’s exactly who’s he’s modeled after
Fr. Didn’t take a lot to guess. The hair was a dead giveaway.
How about those eyes that basically scream "I wasn't asking consent"
there were even rumors that Power line was supposed to be voiced by Bobby Brown
