I'm speechless. I have been working with u-boats for most of my life (I'm a military historian) but this is not a model, it's scaled down reality. Every detail of a type VIIc boat is correct. Excellent work mate, I'm thrilled. Thanks for sharing and greetings from Cuxhaven on the German North Sea shore. 👍🏼
Oh my god. This is incredible... "some extras" - understatement of the decade. This is so impressive I'm actually flabbergasted at the skill that went into this.
I was just saying at the beggining you were a Master builder... but now i realise that there are no words that can define your talent or work or even dedication... unique!
This has to be the best U Boat model I have seen so far, it looks so damned real with all the little details built into it. It is a museum quality piece without a doubt.
The detail, and the battle-wear look on the wintergarden at 7:01 is unbelievable! The flak gun looks GREAT! The whole boat is amazing! Serious professional dedication on display there. Very, very well done, sir!
I'm almost afraid to look at the hi-res images of the finished model because I'd feel like I was on the business end of those torpedo tubes!! This is the most realistic U-boat model I've ever seen! Dare I say, it looked more convincing than the models used in Das Boot! I love how you dremeled the dents and dings into the hull and replaced the torpedo ports in the bow with precision-cut sheet metal and blended it seamlessly into the plastic, but the wire railing was genius! The aging and distressing effects made it look like it had survived more than its share of depth charges!
This Sub model is the work of a talented model builder. A keen eye for authentic detail seems instinctive. It's a pleasure to view such a creation and at the same time to wonder why such talent has been allocated to so few.🙂😉
Breathtaking work.....I have just started this kit, the platinum addition, and so far I have spent 11 hours just working the hull textures and Linder holes and only halfway through! This is giving me so much encouragement, mine won’t have the internal detail you have added (thank god!) but your progress photos are invaluable for reference and your weathering videos are absolutely outstanding. So simple, but so effective...thank you...
Einmalig mein Kompliment ,Sie sind ein absoluter Fachmann im Modellbau .Das Boot ,was Sie gebaut haben ist eine Augenweide Respekt 👍🏽👍🏽. Grüße aus ROSTOCK .
You nailed it! Amazing detail. Years ago I stood on the deck of the U-505 and your model captures the detail of the deck/conning tower perfectly. Well done.
Tristan, I simply can't imagine modelling can possibly get any better than this. You need to put everyone out of their misery and offer some insights on how you have achieved such a magnificent piece of work.
An artist in 3D...he sees the final result before he has even laid paint to model... amazing and awesome work... glad I quit model building when I was younger... I would feel like a first year art student watching Michelangelo paint the dome in Rome....
damn... I`m in the middle of my build... but after watching this I totally agree... :/ no point finishing it because it`ll just look shit compared to this :/
A mí me ocurre lo mismo, hermano. Me voy a dedicar a la jardinería después de este video. Quizás las casas de maquetas deberian prohibirlos, les ahuyentan los clientes. Abrazos desde España.
From now on every time I see a model sub, or even a real one, for that matter, my reply will always be "yeah, but it's not as good as Tristan Reidford's one". Spectacular!!!
You are obviously a master craftsman in several techniques and and methodologies. If you could please provide longer videos with greater depth of explanation, it would be greatly appreciated.
That's it. I don't have to watch any other U-boat videos. I'm in the painting stage of my type VII C. I had opened three of the forward torpedo doors, I used rolled paper for torpedo tubes. Drilled out the aft torpedo tube. Drilled the holes around the forward bow diving planes that are for the sound detector. That's as custom as I could go on my model. Yours is an heirloom.
I’ve watched a lot of sub builds on RUclips. This is by far the best weathering job I have ever seen for a German ww2 sub. Amazing color selection, and application of streaks and rust. Fantastic job! Also I LOVED the port and starboard bow photographs. The lighting you used was perfect. I can’t wait for more vids.
Admit it! You are a professional. Who else of the finescale modellist scene has such skills, and in particular, own both, a laser cutter and a 3D- printer? That submarine belongs to a museum.
WOW.... just AMAZING.. I use to do everything with ruler, pencil paper and whatever else I could get my hands on--- now- with TECH-- you PRINT one!!! AMAZING!!!
omg this is TRULY STUNNING!! I have NEVER seen a model with this much detail AMAZING I've run out of likes for all the other commitments these guys have left
Les plus beaux moments, c'est durant les montages. Il est beau, très beau votre U--991 ! The best moments are during the editing. Your U - 991 is beautiful, very beautiful !
Quite well so far. If you do some more work, maybe something will come of it one day. No, seriously: I think this is one of the best results I have ever seen in the modeling scene. Wow!
Jeez, if you put a photo background behind this and took a picture, most would swear it was the real thing. In 1/72 scale no less....with a "few extras" lol. Absolutely fantastic build man. The only things that exceed my faux hatred are my admiration and the inspiration to make me try this. It would be great if you could provide a list of the photoetch and after-market kits and materials you used. Thanks so much for the vid.
I don't want to be a ballbreaker, but the deck platform in the U boats was not made of wood, but steel. Sorry for the comment, but nice work otherwise. You've mastered it!
Took my breath away, best submarine model i've seen anywhere, by any body. Some of your techniques and vision is incredible, superb.
Awesome work, horrible music..
I'm speechless. I have been working with u-boats for most of my life (I'm a military historian) but this is not a model, it's scaled down reality. Every detail of a type VIIc boat is correct.

This is not a hobby, this is art.
Only an artist does it! Amazing!! Thank you for creating this beautiful sculpture and showing it to us.
SO agreed

You sir are a true craftsman and artist, amazing piece of work
My God! I was researching 1/72 u-boat for a future build, now I don't wanna build it anymore. :)
i know that feeling...
Yup
+hovek1988 this comment killed me :D
INSANE MODELING! BRAVO!!
Dont let some fanatically detailed person with all the toys discourage you. The main thing is to HAVE FUN doing it!

Amazing weathering techniques, that Uboat looks as if it needs another refit.
you my friend, are a legend, constructer, fabricator, assembler and painter as well as a builder. The whole world can appreciate your skills
This is insanely incredible work! This thing looks more realistic then an actual U-boat

Best U-Boot build on the whole internet!!!
Impressive rust and aging effect throughout. Also really liked the pressure dents. Great workmanship!
AMAZING......One of the best renderings of a sub I've ever seen.........BRAVO!
You nailed it! Amazing detail. Years ago I stood on the deck of the U-505 and your model captures the detail of the deck/conning tower perfectly. Well done.
You have humbled a great number of builders with this creation. I am utterly in awe. Well done sir. Well done.
Best UBoat build I have ever seen. Looks like a real boat that was just dry docked.
Tristan, I simply can't imagine modelling can possibly get any better than this. You need to put everyone out of their misery and offer some insights on how you have achieved such a magnificent piece of work.

Amazing model work. You are lucky to have all that equipment to do a job like this. Have fun.
I am Speechless This is the first time that I can see how much time and detail has been put into it to make it so realistic :) Well done
I am looking for Trumpeter 1/48 model, but this is marvel!
Cannot even imagine what your hands will do with Trumpeter kit.
Bravo!
You just set the bar so high I'm planning to give up the hobby altogether! You sir, are a true artist! Kudos! Cheers from Patagonia!
A mí me ocurre lo mismo, hermano. Me voy a dedicar a la jardinería después de este video. Quizás las casas de maquetas deberian prohibirlos, les ahuyentan los clientes. Abrazos desde España.
Some amazing, amazing work. Best peeled paint I've seen on a model (and I've peeled plenty myself).
From now on every time I see a model sub, or even a real one, for that matter, my reply will always be "yeah, but it's not as good as Tristan Reidford's one". Spectacular!!!
Exactly...😂
Epic, the hull detail is beyond 4K
Damn . . . art work worthy in any gallery.
On a level that puts realism on your mantel. Outstanding, excellent and wow.
Respect and honors toward your work, there's more experience in that build than I could hope to achieve.
The most amazing submarine model I’ve ever seen. Awesome work!
You are obviously a master craftsman in several techniques and and methodologies. If you could please provide longer videos with greater depth of explanation, it would be greatly appreciated.
Astonishing. Your skill level is off the scale.
