Back in 1989, when I got to know the New Adventures line through comics, I thought it was the BEST thing that happened to the MOTU toyline, because it actually changed the status quo and moved the story forward.
I could never get into this version of He-Man. But I have to admit the comic does do the transition between the two formats better than the cartoon did. At least Skeletor and Prince Adam still looked the same at the beginning
To think I had all the New Adventures versions of Skeletor and He-Man at one point in my life, and that Skull/Moon Space Station playset- my dad was good to me, and my mum bless them. And all the figures from the original line I had, not to mention the duplicates of many of them for whatever reason... I wonder where those toys are now... I wish I hadn't lost them over time.
You made that 90's series actually sound good, i remember when i first saw it as a kid and thought WHAT THE HELL DID THEY DO TO HE-MAN! These character designs look very vintage too, like 1960's vintage which probably was one of many reasons why it failed.
I love New Adventures. Simply because the animation was way better and it's in SPACE! The only downside is they changed He-Man and Skeletor's appearance.
I think the Netflix She-Ra reboot dealt with the concept of Masters of the Universe going out into space and fighting wars across the galaxy better. I mean, aside from the New Adventures, that reboot is the only one where Mara showed up in the whole franchise.
Great detailed overview! This is the He-man toy I had when I was a kid. I was only about 5 years old, but still remember that I looked at the original He-man toy design and thought it looked kind of odd, so I asked my parents to buy me this one. I can see how a lot of people might prefer the stocky steroided version because that's what they saw in the animated series, but when I was a kid and lived in Germany, I only watched the movie with Dolph Lundgren and so this seemed like the more accurate depiction of He-man to me.
As a kid who was just a couple years too young to get properly into Vintage MOTU when they were actually current (though I had a fairly large collection courtesy of hand me downs from a family friend(, New Adventures was essentially the line I was able to acquire new when I was a kid). To this day, I find the cartoon rather lackluster, but find the toy line itself rather great ,
thanks for sharing that mini-comic. too bad that part of the mythos has been lost for awhile, it is pretty cool. i'm becoming a fan of this series through MOTUC. optikk is one of my favorites of that series and i'm really looking forward to icarius. can't wait for a slush head to come out either :)
I never got used to this "New Adventures" toy- and storyline. Which is amazing because when "He-Man: New Adventures" was introduced I was a) still in my early teens, b) a huge fan of the original Masters of the Universe franchise (I had like 96% of all toys, including the European rarities as I grew up in northern Europe and visited Italy almost every year in the 80s), and c) an even bigger sci-fi nerd. It never resonated with me and stil doesn't. But thanks for this video - it reminded me of the figures and their introduction.
I had the toys as a kid and watched the show. I thought it was good, but it was never as good as the original. I loved He-Man and still do, so I went along with it. The toys could have used more work and QC though, since I had to buy multiple He-Man figures because the handle on his sword always broke off. The later figures in this line were much MUCH better though, and I'm glad Mattel made the NA He-Man figure in their classics line.
As many problems as the NA cartoon had (and it had lots), I honestly think it improves on the Filmation MOTU cartoon in many respects. That said, I personally think the storyline of the NA toy line is head and shoulders above that of the NA cartoon,
I grove up on this version of toys and live action movie. We don't have any animated series in Czech Republic in those years, only animated MOTU Christmas Special so I didn't know much about the original series. So for me, this version is practictly the main one. Also I like more sci-fi then fantasy, so I really like this new sci-fi approach.
The redesigns of He-Man for this line were more in lie with the treatment Kenner was giving their Ghostbusters figures and LJN with Thundercats, more slimmer appearances. Since He-Man's popularity waned with Ghostbusters and Thundercats, it could be said Mattel was competing. However this toyline was blown out of the water before it could even hit shelves thanks to TMNT. A toyline with sculpts that were a directly inspired by or just a parody of the old MOTU. Ironic huh?
Hey man, take a look on one of the figures of the Sylvester Stallone movie demolition man, its the same figure of he man new adventures it even includes the same chest armor
If it were some other characters, ie., a different franchise, sure, why not, I'd probably run with it. But I was never able to accept that this would be He-Man's future, you know what I mean? Makes me feel like it erases everything that happened before. Maybe I'm just weird that way. Also, I never liked He-Man's design in NA. He reminds me of Ken dolls. And what's up with Skeletor's face? In the cartoon, he looks like a squirrel, and this particular action figure looks like somebody's given him a fright of his life! Also, in my own personal opinion, the NA figures never really achieved the coolness factor of the vintage ones. They were so skinny, tiny, smaller than the vintage ones... I dunno, I usually like to pretend that NA never happened. But, that's just me, I guess.
My friend was so lucky as his mom find finally money to buy him he-man in dutry free shop as in Yugoslavia we cant buy them in normal store, he was so dissapoint and me too when he show me this he man, simple we dont know back then here that old line of toys was closed we expect same looking figure and get this , now new adevntures looks me good as we play with them then but back then no one like them , we eaven like more crap yugoslavia bootlegs over new adventures
Planet Primus.... so He-Man MEETS TRANSFORMERS!!!! lmao I gotta say though I was super let down as a kid when this came on TV. The #1 reason was that I thought it was more episodes of Filmation, but NOOOOO!!! To each their own though.
Am i the ONLY one who feel so weird knowing that He-man is A: stuck as He-man and cant turn back to adam, and that skeletor now knows whats going on? i mean talk about a huge moment in the series of MOTU... and wow... He-man is gone off Eterna? i mean think about it... he is no longer with ANY of his friends from Eternia! same with Skeletor... i dont like how Skeletor got (Vador)'ed up... but i guess its ok...
I did my mom bought them for me all the time every payday I got a new He-Man toy even the old ones I'm out of that stuff now I'm a Christian now and I exposed all these evil toys and stuff and the truth behind them
This series was terrible. They got rid the best parts of Heman. Took away the best characters. They took lazy writing and replaced it it with better animation and even lazier writing. The toys were completely garbage. Mattel just wanted to sprint to the bank after the 1987 movie left them with more terrible sales in the boys toy department

Hi again,
Great Video again. I used to have this two Figures. They are great, love them ;-)
Thanks for giving us the comic story, it IS very nice.
The fact that Pixel Dan has never done an in-depth review or look at Starship Eternia is a shocking tragedy 😱
I think the Netflix She-Ra reboot dealt with the concept of Masters of the Universe going out into space and fighting wars across the galaxy better. I mean, aside from the New Adventures, that reboot is the only one where Mara showed up in the whole franchise.
Some purtty cool toys in the He-Man lineup! As not a huge fan of MOTU, I am still really interested in this series Danny!
i loved that skellator my mum got me him from Woolworth one weekend hes up there with my most fav variants
That mini comic was sweet. I need to find a copy of it.
you know? After revelations. I think we were way too hard on New Adventures

man, this Skeletor and the Intergalactic version are my best Skeletor's of all time!
Agreed, I love 'em! Really wish I had that Classics version of Skeletor for sure. Goes for a pretty penny and I can't find one in the UK anyway.
@@charlieross4674 never stop searching Mate !
i had the skellator seeing this just made me remember him he was cool to have
Great review. Below average figures.
I loved The New Adventures of He-Man as a kid. I've watched some episodes on RUclips.

My MOTU childhood was mentally scarred by New Adventures. :(
At least the MOTUC line is making them look cool and "fit in" better this time around!
I have that Skeletor but I never knew why he looked that way until now, thanks Dan!
You know, I actually kind of like these figures, though I'm not really too fond of NA. He-Man's figure looks a bit eh, but Skeletor's is boss.

Wait.....Primus..... That means there eather living on a band or the "god" Of Transformers! That proves That Tfs are Awesome!
Awesome, I'm gonna have to track that mini comic down.

The New Adventures era He-Man looks like Flash Gordon

real ghostbusters had to change the looks since they couldn't get the rights to their likenesses
Here in Italy I own the almost the complete collection.
I don't have yet the battlebird
I never like this version of he man but I did enjoy this video dan
A better and more slick version of He-Man. A really loved watching the New Adventures of He-Man when they came out on dvd a few years ago.
Hey man, take a look on one of the figures of the Sylvester Stallone movie demolition man, its the same figure of he man new adventures it even includes the same chest armor

I agree these wouldve been better as different characters in the future. Maybe He-Ra and Blueskull would be better fitting names.
Let take a vote:
Thump up if you think He-man sword is YELLOW.

Sagitar was the best figure from this line. The cartoon made very little sense though
It's a green sword and shield, not yellow.

They proably made them less muscular to save money on plastics.
is this intergalatic skeletor an fragile figure?!
6:19-6:27 Awkward silence ensues

@Mandalorian30 Ohh sorry dude... -.-* My bad xD
did they ever make he man toys from the live action movie?
no they did not
Yes they did ....blade kragg saroud
you all should just change the page name to HE-MAN culture
I hope we get all the NA figures in classics. Shame how under rated it is.
GREEN wins
Dan are you colour blind? the blade and the shield is GREEN
I dont like these versions, i like the old he man
I did my mom bought them for me all the time every payday I got a new He-Man toy even the old ones I'm out of that stuff now I'm a Christian now and I exposed all these evil toys and stuff and the truth behind them
J Holyroller they aren’t evil
