Great video. Unfortunately neither fix made my Oreck Magnesium work consistently but my problem WAS in the handle. Here are the steps I used that fixed it: 0. Try the reset trick. No lights. 1. Remove battery cover as shown in video. 2. Remove battery. Test and replace if needed. 3. Spray electrical contact cleaner on the battery contacts (probably not needed, but I figured "Why not, while I have it apart?" 4. Used emery board (cardboard fingernail file) to gently clean the contacts. 5. Gently bent up the two fingers that go under the battery as discussed in the video. After doing all this, I reinserted the battery and it worked! Unfortunately, after I stopped it and put the battery cover back on, it wouldn't work. So I added another step. 6. GENTLY bend the TOP battery contact, the one that holds the battery in place, DOWN so it contacts more of the battery and is a little tighter. I then reinserted the battery and it worked. Better yet, it still worked after I put the cap on and all through a complete house vacuuming, unplugging and moving the cord multiple times. Since I found this video so helpful I thought I'd share this additional tip.
Went to Oreck store in Denver and he tried to sell me a new model for $600 instead of checking to replace the $2 CR2032 battery to fix my vacuum that wouldn’t turn on. He offered to fix it for $235. Thank you RUclips❤️‼️
I can’t believe I hadn’t looked at this sooner. Thank you!! I had no idea there was a battery in the handle! Fixed a problem that had “broken” my vacuum for months since I hadn’t found someone to fix it yet.
Battery in the handle died on ours. Took it in and they wanted to sell me a new one for $500. Said they couldn’t get a new handle. Watched this video and saved myself $90 since I didn’t need to buy a used one off eBay! I even had the battery so my wife is very happy with me.
It’s so frustrating to hear other vacuum stores just rush to a replacement. I’m so glad all it needed was a battery and you had one! Happy wife happy life. Well done!
Reference battery door not fitting/working; 99% of time these situations are because those battery prongs have been bent down. Raise them up gently back into shape and shut the battery door. You might be surprised it will work.
Excellent video. You can use a coin to tighten the little "Door" until it clicks. The raised portion of the door will be horizontal, otherwise, the door might fall off.
Yes, very helpful.. Thank You.. The exact problem I had.. Battery.. Just a note on mine.. I did check the battery voltage and it was 3.3v.. Ordinally that voltage is enough to operate circuits that operate on 3.5v.. Apparently not true with my LW1500RS.. A new lithium battery did fix the problem (3.7v).. Thanks again.. Great tip..
I vacuumed up a sock and my Oreck went dead so I change the battery and did the 15 second reset and I got nothing, wont make a sound I ordered mine from the company in February of 2021 so I’m guessing the warranty is only good for 1 year and I live in a small town in Texas and the guy closed his shop and I would have to drive 100 miles to Dallas to take it in for repairs. I hope you can help me out!! Thanks
If it’s a Magnesium, then yes it has a 1 year warranty. Most likely the sock 🧦 caused the main circuit board to blow. Sounds like you tried everything else. As far as I know right now the main circuit boards are not available. I’m not in the store this week but feel free to text us tomorrow to see if maybe we have a used one lying around.
Thank you very much for this informative video. The digital user manual I have seems to be for another Magnesium without any battery in the handle and no mention of this. So I wonder if there were different Magnesium models or changes in design in recent years. (I believe my vacuum is an RS but it doesn't seem to show the RS designation on the machine itself.)
You are correct LW100 does not have a battery in the handle. If it is not turning on it could be one of several issues: harness cord that runs from switch to base, main cord, motor, or switch. Could also be the belt. Unfortunately not such an easy fix on this one. I recommend taking it to a vacuum store to be repaired if you can.
HELP! I vacummed up a sock and it jammed up the fan inside. The was turning on and making a noise but now it won't turn on at all. I took it apart and removed the sock, and took out the battery in the handle and it still has battery life (tested it), and I tried holding the button for 15 seconds but it still won't turn on at all. Maybe trying to run it with it jammed up somehow burnt out an element/fuse??
Sometimes when these units get clogged, it blows the main circuit board out. Where are you located? Can you send us a photo of your serial number: Text it to 561-558-9339
@@RoadRunners23 So it turned out my hubby blew out the circuit breaker. I found the same vacuum on ebay selling for parts and I requested to purchase on the circuit breaker only, since the description said it ran but was just noisy. I installed it MYSELF, did the 15 sec thing and it works!!!

@@magicmegan4290 So glad you were able to get it fixed! There's nothing on the market like a magnesium....everything is heavier, so if you can keep it going as long as possible, that's HUGE!

Ive come across this happening on lots of equipment over the decades.
Thank you, had to replace the battery and it works perfect now.
Excellent!
Did the trick....thanks for putting this together.
Of course. Happy to help!
Good information to know since I am not normally a fix it person! I love Oreck Vacuums!
Me too! It’s an easy fix right?!
Thank you so much! Your advise was the most helpful, immediately fixed the problem. Eugene from Fort Worth TX

My magnesium sucked up a squishy little toy and shut itself off I took it apart and removed the toy but it never turned back on either
What would be the next step if a service center is not an option? The nearest service center is nearly 3 hours away.
Text or call us! None of this worked?

Please look and see if you have a circuit board. I have the Magnesium RS. Don’t see a model number. Looks just like the one you are using. Thank you
you can call our location in Chicago. 773-889-0300, let them know that Kim and Don told you to call to order the used main circuit board from them.

Sometimes it can be the circuit board. How old is your vacuum?
