This band for the their first two albums - especially first and EPs etc before that - were simply incredible. Storm in Heaven is one of the greatest albums ever made - end of
Holy... what the... there are no words to describe this... McCabe's guitar sounds like it's raining down on us from 10,000 miles above heaven... us mere mortals would be eternally blessed if a reissue of this psych-groove masterpiece could be bestowed upon us.
What does mbv has to do with verve, both work in complete different levels, just because the noise is present in both, means nothing. You can't diminish the spiritualized guitars and vibe
This is another level! Verve were just an unbelievable band live, the best I have seen. The version of Slide Away here is the best live one I've heard!
This version of slide away, is the best one by miles......... All the live one 's are all different. It's simply mind blowing!!!!. That bassline..... 👌one of my favorite songs of all time
This is the one record I would love to own even though it costs a ton. Masterpiece. Clapton is god...yeh right...Nick Mccabe is god and this is his gift to us.
After 30 years this sound this music is TOP LEVEL, first and second compositions are LEGENDARY. Way ahead of its time. So much respect to musicians. Real rock stars.
The band at their psychedelic peak! The scope of these six tracks ("Slide Away", "Gravity Grave", "One Way To Go", "South Pacific", "Already There", "She's A Superstar") feels as epic as the distant, farthest horizons of space.
Simon and Peter were so good at giving you a funky ass rhythm that never leaves your head. Richard brings in personal, deep lyrics while his voice perfectly compliments the swooping wave that is Nick Fucking McCabe. I live every day in agony and despair knowing I never got to experience this live.
The guitar certainly compliments the voice. It is divine. I have had a tumulteous eight years and listening to the verve lifts my spirits. I am glad I connected with this music and have been sharing it with friends who have thanked me. The band was definitely underrated.
B sides to Urban Hyms are good. The Longest Days, Echo Bass and Stamped. Neon Wilderness really shines out on that album though, which was written by Nick. However I always feel Catching the Butterfly is under looked, which is credited to the whole band
I love a lot of tunes off of urban hymns and adore ashcrofts songwriting. Huge Oasis fan, but storm in heaven all the b sides no come down etc, them songs continue to influence me daily.
There are some real bangers on Urban Hymns though. Come On!, The Rolling People are full band jam compositions. Plus 'Velvet Morning' is one of the most beautiful songs ever made
7 suns refers to the 7 chakras in our subtle astral body...we all have 3 bodies or sheaths covering our" essence" or soul...the Physical body, the astral body and Casual or "thought" body...once you shed those 3 bodies...your FREE...really free!
agree with all the comments on here. verve and the verve are different projects in my opinion. here's what happened - verve rehearsal 1994. dickie - 'we've got to put a 'the' on. also nick, could you turn your guitar down for this one, it's a ballad.' RIP verve.
Youre right, Im a mega fan of Oasis and urban hymns era, and every person I seem to meet has no clue about storm in heaven and these early live shows, man this bootleg is the best youll ever hear, fuckin nick the most underrated guitarist ever, this is the real deal
Only The Verve can name an album after the Voyager 1 space probe, only The Verve can create a song named after the Pacific Ocean, in fact 2 songs AND another song about the SOUTH PACIFIC, Only The Verve can name a song after the Appalachian Mountains (or springs), only The Verve can create a song named after Judas, only The Verve can make a song about 6 o'clock, ONLY THE VERVE CAN WRITE A SONG AFTER THE NAME OF THE BAND (The Verve Is Rising). only The Verve can name a song after Muhammad Ali the worlds greatest, ONLY. Artwork was done by microdot the company that did all the early verve, oasis and suede record sleeves as well as posters like the green lucky man barcode. You see the thumbprint in bottom left corner that’s the early microdot logo. Was commissioned to look like a bootleg by Hutt records.
This version of Gravity Grave made me realize just how... angry it is? Richard and Nick both seem to be going way harder on this one compared to the studio version. The lyrics seem to suggest something between him and a lover maybe, how he realizes how much negative control she has over him, and despite being aware he can’t help but come back every time. He loves her so much he’d let her kill him (or at least burn his eyes). Heavier version here seems way more fitting.
July 1993, The Whisky, Hollywood. Unbelievable gig, unbelievable band. Anybody else there?
This band for the their first two albums - especially first and EPs etc before that - were simply incredible. Storm in Heaven is one of the greatest albums ever made - end of
Bragging rights - saw them 1st show in NYC for SiH / singles. Small club -15 people in downtown. Incredible is an understatement
@@stephenlombardo5505 no words for my level of jealousy. That would have been sick!
Yeah...sotrm in heaven and a northern soul the best psych
That guitar tone is insane

+James Wilson Totally agree. McCabe's guitar tone on this is completely ethereal. What a gem this band was.
+James Wilson mccabe's guitar sounds like a storm in heaven hehehe
here are some words: sounds like someone trying to sound like mbv but a shittier version
What does mbv has to do with verve, both work in complete different levels, just because the noise is present in both, means nothing. You can't diminish the spiritualized guitars and vibe
just spiritualized, really??
This is another level! Verve were just an unbelievable band live, the best I have seen. The version of Slide Away here is the best live one I've heard!
I think Nick knew how to take each one of us to the edge of our sanity with his playing. He is simply amazing.
All as a young 20 year old kid. Damn that is knowledge beyond your years.

This Slide Away is fucking unreal

Guitar is divine
Wunderschön, ich liebe the verve . Die 90er waren toll..
This is the best slide away i’ve ever heard shit, i would had love to live that times closely
Phenomenal performance, McCabe is up there with the greatest criminally underrated
4:40 I can’t believe that Iam crying with this guitar riff

The best explanation of this era verve I have heard.
The guitar certainly compliments the voice. It is divine. I have had a tumulteous eight years and listening to the verve lifts my spirits. I am glad I connected with this music and have been sharing it with friends who have thanked me. The band was definitely underrated.
Pretty sure Richard was also tripping ballllllls. 🤩
This is one of most epic recordings on earth
"One Way To Go" on here is just amazing. Probably my favourite Verve song. It totally outclasses the studio version completely.
Amazing..the vinyl is so rare
Lucky to own this Lp on translucent blue. So beautiful ! Just as good today as it ever was. South Pacific...chillzzzzz..🕺
You’re lucky because it sells for an average of around $300 - www.discogs.com/Verve-Voyager-1/release/829870
The verve , du bleibst für immer das Beste
One of the best. '92 to '95 untouchable. We'll forget post A Northern Soul where ashcroft tried turning them into his backing band.
B sides to Urban Hyms are good. The Longest Days, Echo Bass and Stamped. Neon Wilderness really shines out on that album though, which was written by Nick. However I always feel Catching the Butterfly is under looked, which is credited to the whole band

That bass too, is great the drums and that Gibson
a dark room, and this album. that's it.
"Here she comes, seven suns ... " Amazing ... How can a song be both ethereal and light and yet churn and surge like a storm at sea. 31:15

What have I just listened to! Sublime!
Sublime in every sense of the word... VERVE sailed into my life when they reformed for the 1st time & have never left me since.
Great LP. What a career, what a career, wow. Lifelong Fan.

Life's an Ocean? This is Music? Come On? Rolling People? A New Decade? All from The Verve. McCabe still had plenty of moments to shine.

I want this played at my funeral.
It'd be hard to keep still even then!
Make sure they play “See You In The Next One” after this LP fades out
Imagine ascending to heaven while One Way to Go plays 😇😇

I'd say the Glastonbury version is the heaviest, but yeah. I like the melancholy of the recorded version as well though.
Excellent, Leonard Nimoy will be earning money from this video for a ten second clip or whatever. :-D
Yeah this is very rare LP. Around only a 1000 were made, and about 300 of those were damaged.
I saw one in Kyoto Japan about 1998. I recognized it from catalogs, it was $50 at the time, had no idea it was so rare.
This and Ride's Live at Brixton Academy gig
Sublime Supremacy, good name for a band write that down (world's end nod)

It was an official release for the us market
you can get it on amazon for 10,000$
This sounds a lot like Spacemen 3

But better. The Verve were all individually brilliant and had more funk.
