A soul classic like many from the 60's and 70's that are such memories and how I was lucky to be around back then. This song is priceless.
Marvin Junior, dubbed ‘Iron Throat’ by David Ruffin and the soul singer Teddy Pendergrass was told to emulate. Rest In Power.
We know who influenced Teddy P. He admitted that Marvin Jurior influenced him.
The man with the powerful, soulful voice is Marvin Junior. It was said that when Teddy Pendergrass was in Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes, this is who he was told to sing like. The dells have been doing it since the 50s. One of the greatest if not the greatest soul/ RnB groups to EVER do it
Not taking anything from any other music, but I think God truly blessed us in that generation of music, just others are blessed with different talents, this is definitely one of ours, I hope we never loose it😊
I love this song. Dru Hill covered this song & I like their version too. But I knew of this version first. Marvin Junior's voice is everything, when he comes in, his voice seems like it just shakes the Earth. Great request -Exy- Sexy_Ole_ School. And Jack I just appreciate your love for music. The legendary Dells. Marvin Junior was nicknamed the "Iron Throat" by David Ruffin of The Temptations. The movie The 5 Heartbeats was losely based on the struggles of them and other groups of that era. The lead character put emphasis on his name Eddie King Jr to pay homage to Marvin Junior who did the voiceovers on Eddie's singing scenes. The Dells also did a few songs for the soundtrack
Fun fact: the movie the five heartbeats was inspired by them and they did a few songs for the soundtrack of the movie

@@mofun5315Sorry, but no one is singing like this, they stop singing a king time ago! All they are doing is rapping now, and another form of singing. The Dells and other groups could actually sing, all the different ranges too, nah there’s no one singing like this in today times, at all.

Listen to that voice!!! Or the voices. Marvin Junior holds his note. I don’t think no one else can hold a note that long. Johnnie Carter is that shrill voice. What a tag team!!! Sometimes back to back or opposite ends!!! Boy!!! They lasted in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, & even in the 2000’s. Great recognizing this masterpiece that is the Dells. Thanks!!!
