@@Yuti640 from the first time I played the game, Sans has always reminded me a bit of Anubis: "In Egyptian mythology, the god Anubis is responsible for weighing the souls of the deceased. This process occurs in the Hall of Ma'at, where Anubis weighs the heart of the deceased against the feather of Ma'at, the goddess of truth and justice. If the heart is lighter than the feather, the soul is deemed righteous and is allowed to enter the afterlife. If the heart is heavier, it is devoured by the demon Ammit, and the soul is condemned." Sans has some opposites to this - instead of needing to be perfectly good to pass, the player must be perfectly evil to be stopped. It's noteworthy that white Ma'at is the goddess of truth and justice, Sans bears the colors (in his eye flashes) of patience and justice. This kinda goes in line with his much more compassionate judgement. Instead of being judged AFTER death, Sans judges you BEFORE what he would likely think is your impending death (given the fate of the humans who came before you). In the end if you were evil, a demon does demolish you. (I'm not arguing for who that demon is, whether the player or Chara etc) Edit: @DetectiveMar , free material for your consideration ;)
@@ofconsciousnessJust a footnote: sans doesnt expect to win and is much less likely to think so, knowing Frisk can just come back as many times as they'd like; he doesnt even know how many times they've died- if at all- just guesses based on their behavior. He does try to give it his all in hopes of Frisk giving up though, making the fight as frustrating as he can
You know, it wouldn't surprise me if Berdly's overall significance ended after Chapter 2. He is not the fourth party member unlike Noelle for starters, and I looked in Deltarune Chapter 1+2's code with UndertaleModTool. The removal of the meaning of choice would certainly be circumvented by using someone not among the "Delta Warriors", since their destiny is to... whatever bullshit this thing about the roaring is. Noelle is not part of the Prophecy, so she can throw a wrench into destiny's plan. We could wind up doing something similar with Toriel, especially if we opt to take advantage of her motherly nature, indirectly teaching her that confronting her problems like Asgore with aggression is _the_ way to go. Asriel has also yet to appear, but it's safe to say that being alive in Deltarune means fate will find other ways to torture him... such as by targeting those he cares about! It can be compared to how he let his adoptive sibling Chara wrap him around their finger, prodding him to go through with poisoning them using buttercup flowers, and essentially making him exclusively trust Chara.
I feel like Berdly, going forward, will be the kind of character that, if you play the normal route, you get funny and/or wholesome dialogue from in the light world. You can talk to him in Hometown, he may appear as a non-essential character in some Light World cutscenes, stuff like that. But if you do Snowgrave you get poignant awkward silences where he should've been. It sounds cheesy, but maybe you can see him comatose in the hospital in Hometown. Maybe someone says "damn, it's a shame Berdly isn't here" in a place where he normally would be. Like, I doubt the sudden "illness"/death/disappearance of a _kid_ would go entirely unnoticed in a small town like that.
@@nataliaborys1554 I have a feeling he ceases to be important in general, as will the others who have stupid reasons to fight us. Berdly was a simp, and he got his nads kicked in by even Noelle, not strictly in the Weird Route where he's KFC'd.
I think the "your choices don't matter" warrants just the same treatment as "kill or be killed". We see game tell it, but when it comes to showing, we have seen this rule broken. Sometimes more slightly, but sometimes (like with snowgrave) the world significantly reshapes. But looking back in 2016, everyone also was repeating "In this world, it's kill or be killed", so I guess it makes sense fandom thinks so. Toby said that there will be only one ending, but there will be more to Deltarune than just reaching the end.
I've enjoyed your OMORI analysis videos very recently, and I think that it's only a matter of time before this channel blows up at some point. :) Subbed, and I wish you success on the platform.
I don't believe Noelle to be THE Angel, as I ascribe to the Device Theorem, but I do believe, at this point, that she could be the Christ figure, as in an incarnation of The Angel. This is because, The Angel, if you look at DR through the Device Theorem, is, and has been active for a long time in sneaky ways. In short: it's a variety of glitches and exploits that bring to a certain conclusion, like the end credits in Pokèmon Emerald.
I also forgot to say, great video! Thanks for the awesome content. I love your careful examination, and the insights on Noelle, and describing the irl context of gaslighting etc. Also your voice is very pleasant and calming to listen to! I absolutely loved the vid, thanks for making it.
Is there something wrong with me? I'm a grown ass 42 years old guy, and when I see the character interactions required to do the Snowgrave route, I inevitably cry. Mind you, I haven't played Undertale or Deltarune, I only obsessively watched a lot of review, analysis and theorycrafting in the past week. Might have to do with how I'm hyper-sensitive but struggle to understand my own emotions... I don't know. I am left here with a feeling of morbid curiosity because I do want to see every way this can play out, yet, something absolutely hurt. Great video, thanks for sharing and cheers!
Now that i’m watching the video again thinking about the religious symbolism could the ring of thorns be a reference to the crown of thorns? Therefore reinforcing the christ figure in noelle?
Id like to give my two own view. It seems unlikely noelle is the angel. What i mean is it seems that the game is trying to hint or flat out tell us sometimes that we are the angel. Like our soul shining its power onto people. The holy theme for when we seal a fountain. Spamton straight up referring to us as [Angel] [Angel] when selling us his ring. Oh and heal prayer is a prayer and we could say we are the thing actually answering the prayer since we selete it.
"[Angel], [Angel]" is referring to Noelle. Spamton also calls her the "Angel with the tattered wings" during the sweepstakes, and the addison that sells the freezering literally calls her an angel as well. She has far more angel connections than any other character, even outside of the weird route, and her antlers in some sprites just match some designs of the wings on the Delta Rune (the actual symbol) Player angel relies on a lot of assumptions that can not be confirmed. "Your Power" would, if you're using it in a narrative argument, be referring to Kris, which is what "you/your" always refers to in-game narration (arguably outside of one scene in the weird route which still isn't confirmed). The same goes with the "Your SOUL shined its power on [x]!" lines. It also kinda relies on the whole Kris/Player dichotomy being an actual thing, and there's a like 60% chance the fandom is just wrong with the theory they've decided upon.
But keep in mind, Kris showed us he is able to remove the soul within him, he showed he could rebel against the player. For all we know, Kris HAS a tormented past. I don't know, I wouldn't put it past him 100%.
@@ManuelLamy It's still the player forcing them to make choices they don't want to. (When you make Kris say they're fine to Susie after the Spamton boss fight, Susie notes that Kris seems frightened and that they have goosebumps. When you reload the scene and make the other choice, Kris starts screaming and crying in fear. They clearly have their own desires that the player overrides)
