So 2 or 3 (180 turns) on the bottom, two on the top, losing the bottom (90 turns) and finally lose the 3 lug near you by 90 the side e 180 the middle right?
@@philgaudion5452 Well, significant improvement. I think the problem is that my snare naturally wants to be tuned quite high and my ear wants to tune it low... I'll take it to my local drum store, her a second opinion and possibly spend some decent money getting something with a bit more body... Although honestly, it's my skill levels that are the hindering factor right now!
Well after 20 or so years of using evans I'm gonna try out a coated ambassador on my snare because I just can't seem to get the sound I want out of my joey jordison snare with the evans heads I've tried. I'm just simply going to copy everything you do here lol.
my snare is painfully loud. I can not play for more than five minutes of simply playing without my ears ringing. Does everyone wear earplugs when they play?
Spent many years working snares. Rim shot is #1 game changer! Detuning odd lugs #2. Detuned bottom head trick is a new one! Much appreciated!
Since I was a kid I’ve always enjoyed your drum sound. This is a dream come true. Some of those techniques are counterintuitive lol
It's funny how my taste changes in snare sound over the years. And I'm now completely obsessed with the sound you have gotten out of this

Sounds amazing as always, Phil.

Liked and subscribed, mate. Thought this was a brilliant video and your delivery is excellent. Nice kit too, by the way.

Thank you very much, hug from a Brazilian drummer.
Thank you! Absolute *gold* 🙏💯
(especially that "opposite lug"
tuning trick 🤯 )
Big Thanks for this upload!
Great sound and great tips!
Great video phil
Solid drumwork and nice sounding kit & cymbals!
Hmm.. that was a very informative video mate. I have this snare too, I’m eager to try this on my snare

Great sounding snare. My snare sounds terrible so I'm going to give this a go tomorrow.

Great sound. Bottom head, are you saying 2-3, 180 degree (1/2 turn) turns including the first turn after finger tight?
hey Wayne - try that and let me know how you go!
Good Video, Interesting Ideas, Thanks You Peace
thanks Declan - let me know how you go if you try some of these ideas!

@matthew Cortes - let me know how it goes and what you find!
Good stuff.

Neat!
A lot drummers don’t read music, so talking in keys to tune, means nothing to them.
Tuning the lugs , are far easier to follow..
Roy - this is a great comment and helped me think about the other videos I'm doing! well done to you!
The Stewart Copeland snare drum sound is about 1000x tighter than that man lol
yeah totally Eric - agreed - I just liked his 'Rim-Shot' technique and I use it all the time as opposed to his tuning :)
Honestly any snare sound is better than st anger.
It's the greatest snare drum sound in the history of snare drums.....
