"You've been drinking poisoned waters from the fountain of youth." A beautiful lyric about the danger of looking backward and not forward in life. Damn I love Steinman.
It's good as a Steinman backing singer as he is paired with some of the strongest voices music has ever had. In any other type of music or paired with weaker voices he would be a good lead vocal.
My favorite Jim and Bonnie collaboration....this lyric is amazing and should've been HUUUUUGE like Eclipse and Bat and Coming Back To Me.....love this one so much

King Rick Well it's a new version from older song you already like so generally you will find them better, just because you ve been listening to them for 10-30 years...I'v listened hours of music, alternating orignal song then remake / demo out there and some of them are better, some not, music ain't exactly the same either because a demo is still a demo... Some are hard to compare because the song is way different and some are simply plain better even if music is only piano. For this song, this demo I think is way better than original one but if you take for exemple, a kiss is a terrible thing to waste, the meatloaf version songs better in my opinion.
Meat Loaf can't really sing; his Steinman songs are only good until you've heard Rory Dodd, Holly Sherwood or Jim Steinman himself, sing the song in question. Just take Heaven Can Wait, with Karla DeVito, as a case in point: far superior to Meat Loaf's version, and Meat Loaf's cover of Original Sin, which I heard after the Pandora's Box version, totally sucks. Also, you're wrong about new version; I hear new covers of Total Eclipse of the Heart all the time, I don't like them more over Bonnie's original version, because all of these covers recorded by mediocre singers, are inferior. However, I'm pretty sure that Holly Sherwood could sing TEOTH better than Bonnie. Holly Sherwood and Rory Dodd are Steinman's two top singers, ever. Bonnie was good until their second collaboration, but the only reason Bonnie Tyler became Steinman's new top dog, is simply because her record company paid Steinman good money. Other than that, Steinman has worked with many talented singers over the years, certainly more talented than both Meat Loaf and Bonnie Tyler.

agreed, and great observation. Dodd is probably Steinman's most technically brilliant singer, but the others imbue his words with so much emotion-Tyler,Rundgren, and of course MeatLoaf. You have to give it your all with a Steinman song. Dodd does, but he can't quite own it the way Bonnie Tyler does.
@Whateverwhoification - may be the case sometimes, but on "Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through", Rory Dodd owns it, makes it, becomes it, _is_ it. All the awe, tenderness, reassurance and hope the song contains is expressed beautifully in his voice and singing. Can't take that one away from him.
Didn't say the other was no good, just that Rory is a better singer. Todd is a phenomenal musician and excellent songwriter. Todd was and still is more commercially viable which is why he was chosen to record the single over Rory.
The track list is: Who Needs The Young, Going All The Way Is Just The Start, Speaking in Tongues, Loving You's A Dirty Job, Souvenirs, Only When I Feel, More, Godz, Skull of Your Country & Train of Love. I listened to the entire album, minus Skull of Your Country, during the Apple Music leak & Meat does a fantastic job with this song. Well worth checking out come September. See iTunes for song previews.
Another song where Jim and Meatloaf teamed up to show the progression of time in Braver Than we Are. Old Jim, Rory, Bonnie song redone in a new way but tying in the theme of the album which is wrapping up great careers and a life where we just get older. : ruclips.net/video/sToaSTxdT7A/видео.html
Totally agreed, Rory Dodd is far superior as a singer. I actually like Bonnie's voice with Steinman up to this album, then her voice got too screwed up and husky, it's not really all that listenable to, today. Anyway, I'd love to hear a Loving You's a Dirty Job, with Rory and Holly Sherwood. But even so, this version is totally great. Rory totally hits the high notes and syncs beautifully with Bonnie.
Probabyl for political reasons. While Meat Loaf ist the best singer of all time (in my opinion) his politicial views seem to be far off what I would support. I guess, for a musical reason he definitly should be included, but I understand that he is not.
@@NeovenatorRex I simply can’t believe that I’ve just read what you wrote... so sad to see art, skill and tallent judged through narrow minded political views. Hope you have a happy life, dude. All the best to you, you’ll need it.
@@sinajakelic it is just my theory on why he isn't in, if I would decide, of course I would put him in the hall of fame. His music isn't political, so he shouldn't be juged for it. That is what I wanted to say. Sadly, he is.
It already is perfect. Although personally I think Bonnie Tyler could have been replaced by Holly Sherwood, but Bonnie did a good job here, she still sang good in the mid 80s. In any case, this demo is actually the best version of the song. Rory Dodd sings much better than Todd Rundgren.
Not really if you want to say he sounds like Steinman on songs like "Surf's up, Rock and Roll Dreams come true or Lost Boys and Golden Girls from the Bad for Godd album that's because Rory Dodd actuall sang the album versions of these three songs. Steinman only sang the rest of the album.
@@NeovenatorRex I always thought he sounded a lot like Steinman on Bad for Good, and he did. Rory could sing every note Steinman asked him to sing, and while Steinman's voice is really beautiful, Rory's is technically better and stronger. It's a shame Rory didn't get much credit for Surf's Up and the other songs he sang on BFG. I maintain that Steinman should have formed a band with Rory Dodd and Holly Sherwood.
@@loughrey101 No, Rory Dodd sang "Rock and Roll Dreams come true, Surf's up and Lost Boys and Golden Girls" from the Bad for Good Album uncredited. The other songs from the album are really sung by Jim Steinman.
His voice is great but it is as if he's rushing the ends of the verses. That is not good... I think. 🤔 Maybe I'm just used to Todd's amazing voice in this brilliant song by Steinman.

+loughrey101 new recording with Imelda May
too bad his voice is shot
Like Bambi's mother.
Interesting. You can see the beginnings of the final version.
"You've been drinking poison water from the fountain of youth"
Ami es la versión que mas me gusta fantástica
I thought this was gonna be the Ratt version for some reason.
Rory should have gotten the final version instead of Todd Rundgren, who's fine, but not on the same level vocally.
@@loughrey101 the older voice works... but rory is techincally better
But Todd was more famous😉
This song sounds like me and my wife
Why isn’t Meatloaf in the HOF? He should be nay will be someday!
@@NeovenatorRex Fair enough, maybe I was too harsh in my reply because I felt from your comment that you approve of that. I apologise.
This would have been perfect sung by Falco and Sloane...
He sounds a lot like Steinman.
Waw at 4:11
His voice is great but it is as if he's rushing the ends of the verses. That is not good... I think. 🤔
Maybe I'm just used to Todd's amazing voice in this brilliant song by Steinman.
it"s better than the album version, without those awfull choirs
The version with Todd Rundgren is better
Thank goodness Meat Loaf turned this into a proper song
LOVE Rory Dodd's voice, but I always kinda thought Bonnie sounded a bit like trailer trash
King Rick hmm trailer trash? Then explain why she was nr.1 in the US for 4 weeks in a row
No such thing as trailer trash in Wales 🏴😂
steinman could be such a genius one minute and then churn out such crap the next
