Sometimes the directors don't really get it either. It's a delicate balance when editing a movie. Some scenes do need to be taken out or edited because they are in fact too drawn out, slow the movie down, have nothing to do with movie as a whole, or just a wtf were you even thinking when you shot this scene? I've seen plenty of director cuts where even I'm like, seriously? You actually wanted this scene in the theatrical release? WTF OVER?!?!
Long story short if he can’t bring down the move to a reasonable runtime and still put out a good product then his skills as a filmmaker are questionable
@@ronburgundy3172 Yup. And that's yet another reason why some directors don't really get it. Directors like Zack Snyder can't handle constructive criticism. After watching _his_ version of Justice League, with all the added and edited footage, at most points during the movie even I was like what was the point all of that? It's like he's trying so hard to make the next Ben-Hur or Lawrence of Arabia.
BvS got screwed by the script before filming. Film was originally written as an action packed adventure by David S Goyer (co writer of dark knight films) but they got Chris Terrio (who came off Oscar win from Argo) and the studio wanted him to make it more detective like and have a lot of intellectual stuff in it. However when rewriting a script, u most have to keep the ending. The studio didn’t want the whole script rewritten but wanted a lot of the plots to play out differently. The last 30 minutes lots happens which doesn’t match up w the rest of the film, tons of action, Wonder Woman showing up, Lois Lane acting like a dummy after being shown as this insane investigative reporter. If u meet ppl who have seen BvS, most will either say “I loved the ending, it was the best part, rest of the film was slow and boring” or you will hear them say “I enjoyed the movie it was very interesting and was clever but at the end it’s just a bunch of action and it wasn’t that good of a conclusion” or you will hear ppl say they disliked the whole film or loved the whole film. I personally enjoyed the directors cut and I fall under the second quote. The movie had too much going on but I enjoyed the build up, however the ending was a bit silly, with how Lois lane was and superman dying in his second appearance, and the batman going straight back to killing after sparing superman.
I acknowledge that the dude puts in some serious work. Yet I am dumbfounded trying to understand why he chose to cram so many storylines into BvS instead of slowing things down and telling the story properly. That film was a sequel to Man of Steel, plots of at least 3 different comic events, some creative liberties, and an intro to the Justice League. Too much, too fast. WB didn't have to be as slow and methodical as Disney leading up to The Avengers, but they sure as hell didn't have to pre-ejaculate decades of iconic mythology either
WB gave him only 5 movies to catch up with the MCU, he dcided the best way to do that is to make the story a mythologyesque one of which these characters are already established as powerful beings so the story could move forward with greater villains.

Why is rebel moon so similar to warhammer (saying it nicely) ? I was happy to see to it but at the same time following a sci fi universe for over 14 years and see something so eerily similar but not be it, is pretty gut wrenching. Getting to see none of the familiar names but see something so similar like “mechanicus militarum” which is taken from astra militarum and the adeptus mechanicus. Was just a bit much for me. So I’m really on the fence. Was this a shot at games workshop? I even own a copy of the Snyder cut and have watched it multiple times but now I can help feeling divided. I’m curious if there was like an issue with the branding or if games workshop didn’t want to play ball or was the attempt skipped and you decided to skirt the limits of I.P as a message.
LMFAO! Rebel Moon was originally written as a Star Wars film but Disney rejected it so Zack retooled it for Netflix. From your comment it would seem to be that Warhammer ripped off Star Wars (and that's why you see similarities 🤷🏽♂️).
@@MorpheusASmith there’s a lot less connection between Star Wars and warhammer than there is warhammer to rebel moon. Did you not see the names. Her pistol looks exactly like a bolt pistol. Mechanicus militarum. The slain king compared to the corpse emperor. I could go on for a while. The fact that the main bad guy is basically a rip off of the emperor with psychic powers. The ships look more like warhammer imperial navy cruisers than any Star Wars ship like a correlian frigate etc the dudes with skull masks are a cross between inquisition and a magos of the mechanicum especially the ones at the end who jack the dude into that psychic chamber. Much like navigators would ( which admittedly was taken from dune) so I don’t disagree that warhammer did rip off some stuff from Star Wars and dune and other places but there’s wayyyy too many similarities. Already loved the studio version of Rebel Moon. Can't wait to see the Snyder Cut!!!
This dude is PASSIONATE! I love it.
Mad respect for bringing Zack in.
The Snyder cut of Justice League was great. I love the added scene of the league walking up several flights of stairs in complete silence. I also love the closeup shot of the sesame seed. It's truly one of the most movies of all time.
so martian manhunter scenes, supermans death at beginning, 25 minutes of cyborg and the plethora of other characters didnt exist to you? Stick to the eternals and madame web.
@TabsT-vy5jy also the scene where flash saves all the hostages and tgen THAT Flash scene....you know the one, goosebumps

its terrible, and exposes how bad he is as a director
Don't bother - It's absolutely shit - Like most of this guys films.
The writing was bad. It needed a lot of work.. especially when it came to characters.
MoS BvS and ZSJL are a masterpiece.
BvS is terrible. The other two are meh, but BvS and Sucker Punch are two truly awful movies.

The Director's cut of BvS is much better than the theatrical release. Much more motivation behind what the characters did.

Watched Rebel Moon last night... it was actually really good. Cant wait for a directors cut!
I wanna see the Snyder cut from this podcast.
lmfaoo!!
Alex Jones and Eddie will be in that cut
The Snyder cut is an experience! U have to watch it!
Rebel Moon somehow had the most shallow characters I've ever seen in an extremely long 2.5 hour runtime. What makes you think I'll sit down to watch a 4 hour version of the same movie?
because justice league directors cut showed us there was a completely different film and character development
I agree. Rebel Moon was so disappointing
Rebel Moon is one if the most boring movies I've ever seen, Justice League is brilliant. Don't miss out on that one
Rebel moon was wack but he’s telling you in the full podcast that it’s not the same movie with extended scenes but a completely different movie and it’s rated R

Because if you watched the movie there's no way you can say it was anything approaching good or decent.

That's actually smart for Netflix for making the Director Cut's part of the movie experience. Especially when the director renowned for the Director's Cut.
it’s one of the worst things ive ever seen come out the industry, ever. making a bad movie on purpose just to say later, “oops! this is the ‘REAL’ movie’. demeaning to the audience like no other movie ever. and just straight up retarded business

The studio cut the backbone of the film
Love your awesome channel 💯!!
seems like a nice guy. I really only liked 300, but still cool guy.
he simply doesn't understand the character, it's part of his mythology that he doesn't kill, it's part of the essence of the character that he goes to the limit but doesn't kill, there are a lot of Batman comics that talk about just that, Jason is all pissed off at the Batman because he didn't kill the joker

Still waiting for that man of steel directors cut
@@ronburgundy3172yeah let’s cut down Oppenheimer to 2 and half hours and do the same with the Batman and let’s see what happens

Because he's a bad writer and just wanted to make his action figures fight in slow motion.
WB gave him only 5 movies to catch up with the MCU, he dcided the best way to do that is to make the story a mythologyesque one of which these characters are already established as powerful beings so the story could move forward with greater villains.
Said by someone who hasn't made a damn thing.....@@BlueBloodPenn
I'm still dumbfounded he chose to do the death of superman in movie 2

Watchmen's ultimate cut is still his best work imo. I had some hope on Rebel Moon but it's really awful...
Man of Steel and Watchmen are masterpieces. This guy is a genius.
Zack seems like a really cool dude, but his talents are in his amazing visuals, and not much else.
Snyder’s biggest weaknesses are his writing and his lack of sense for character development, which are massively important. That’s why his best movies are ones that were written entirely by other people, Dawn of the dead, 300, Watchmen.
I know I’m the minority in this comment section, but I’m the majority almost everywhere else when I say his movies from Man of steel onward range from okay to awful, including his director’s cuts.
He should hire better writers maybe give some input on the story but his focus should be on setting up shots and make things look cool because that’s his strong suit

I mean you have to look at it from the studio’s perspective. If they’re giving 300 million dollars to zack to make a movie they’re probably going to be heavily involved because he’s made mostly flops that aren’t received well. Whereas someone like Christopher Nolan who makes great films that make a lot of money, they’ll just let him do his thing because they trust him. I think the dceu would’ve still been in shambles if he released his bvs ultimate edition and his version of JL.
Zack such a great movie Artist. I watched Watchmen again yesterday. Just beautiful!
Just look at reviews online. Barely any of them say Star Wars. It’s all people saying it’s basically a warhammer movie. Oh the Asian lady with the power swords too. The list goes on. Adding lmfao doesn’t add to your argument it lessens it.
@@yesman866 - Yes those people saying it's a Warhammer movie don't realize that Warhammer basically copied Star Wars, so of course a movie that was made for Star Wars would be like Warhammer (because Warhammer stole from Star Wars 🤷🏽♂️).
PS "the Asian lady with the power swords". You mean lightsabers??? 🤷🏽♂️🤣
@@MorpheusASmith okay. Despite warhammer being from 1980 and was more taken from the book that starship troopers is based on and dune. Sw is barely a factor. Though I admit it is a factor a little. I can’t deny that completely.
@@MorpheusASmith I’m well versed in Star Wars and I’m very well versed in warhammer and I just don’t see anywhere near as many similarities to Star Wars. Take a look at storm
Troopers and imperial guard and then look at the soldiers from the movie then tell me it’s more Star Wars. Like really. That’s really not a strong argument after all the examples I’ve given you and you’ve provided none. Mechanicus militarum. Like the writers wanted to get as close as possible to a lawsuit as they could without getting sued. The slain king. Lol it’s just too much.
* also. It was *pitched* as Star Wars which means it was only an idea at that point. Doesn’t mean it was written* as Star Wars. There is a clear difference there.
He didn't finish his original vision for the universe, but it spawned a lot of movies that were good. Black Adam and Flash were big movies. On the scale of justice league films. Those were justice league 2 and 3, the movie universe ended in the same place with flash point
Black Adam and Flash were terrible movies
They were both bad movies. I guess most people have never seen an actual good movie. Which isn’t suiting because they’ve been in short supply this century.
Haha you put those abominations in the same sentence as justice league?
The bureaucracy he explains in this video is exactly what is wrong with the movie industry. Everything is about economics. Even the director has no power, it’s insanity. Good movies are a thing do the past.

The problem with Man of Steel is Snyder was trying to replicate a Superman in Nolan's Dark Knight world. That's why Cavill was so broody and stern, which is not Superman's character at all. I also hated that Clark Kent was not any different than his alter-ego. At least James Gunn is a legit comic book nerd who's read more than The Dark Knight Returns (ahem Snyder).
You fail to recall Snyder directed the script which was written by Goyer & Nolan. It was their realistic style not Snyder's or rather Goyer's who came up with the idea while trying to figure out The Dark Knight Rises.
@@darrellhardy4532 Nolan didn't write the script, just Goyer. Even with that script you can still make sure Superman is genuinely hopeful. Instead of just saying hope a bunch of times in the film, they ended up being empty words
@@CitizenoftheWorld1 Nolan cowrote the story with Goyer. Goyer wrote the full script. Together they came up with the concept of the world the character embodied. Nolan had a great deal of input as producer. As for Clark's character do you also hate Dean Cain, Tim Daly, George Newburn, Tyler Hochlin? They didn't differentiate between Clark & Superman either. More to the point Man of Steel was an origin. We didn't meet alter ego reporter Clark til the very end of the film. BvS Clark however can be considered a different matter.
Nolan indeed write MOS script. Also he choosed Snyder for director. Normally Nolan was going to start MOS but he didn't want to do it. He watched Watchmen and 300 he said "Watchmen is the movie effected me so much. I want Snyder"
Nolan called Snyder "Zack would you like to direct Superman movie? Goyer and I wrote a script but I don't think I wanna do it (direction)" Snyder accepted the director role
