    Thank You Jason Stiles @RailfanJason for this video series. After seeing the Fort Dodge Duet article in the August 2024 Railroad Model Craftsman magazine, It was great finding this 3 part video series of this very nice CGW layout. Cheers, Rich S.

    That bridge, those houses, the grading, turnouts, and those flatbeds with crane looked amazing.

    Oh how I remember the CGW growing up in Carroll County, Iowa. The multiple FA and FB locomotive lash-ups pulling extremely long trains for the day. Our farm was about 7 miles or so from the mainline, north to Lanesboro or west to Lidderdale. Or simply watching the CGW afternoon eastbound freight roll through Carroll when we would visit our grandparents.
    On the layout, I don't see the star whistleposts that the CGW used.
    Thanks for posting these videos allowing us to go back to a better and quieter time!

    The bridge is at Fort Dodge that spans the Des Moines River and the old Illinois Central now the CN.

    • @J3scribe

      It spans Deer Creek. The Kate Shelley Bridge spans the Des Moines River.

      @@timgustafson8503 Actually I was mistaken. Both bridges span Deer Creek. Feel free to check Google Maps.

    Life long resident of Fort Dodge here and have to say that Mike has truly captured the look and feel of the prototype. Mike used to belong (and maybe still does) to the Lizard Creek Model Railroad Club, the local group of modelers and railfans. Didn't you work for the CNW or one of it's predecessors here Mike?

    Is the line that had the Fort Dodge viaduct still active?

    • @vicodumb
      @vicodumb 4 года назад +1

      The UP uses the bridge several times each day.
