    One thing I would really like to know, is how the ammunition affects the game. In which cases do I want more penetration and when do I go for expansion instead? More penetration when I aim with low calibre guns at big game because I need to get through thicker flesh (shooting a moose with a .270 for example) and otherwise expansion?
    Or is it more a matter of what part of the animal you are shooting at, with skull and spine need high penetration, while aiming at softer inner organs benefits from high expansion instead?
    I am kind of at a loss about how this works in the game. There are at least two ammunition types for all the weapons, but the game does not really tell me which of those is better for what situation.
    If you do a video about where to aim at and place your shots on the game you hunt, you could maybe explain this as well.

    • @Gollywhompa
      @Gollywhompa  7 лет назад +16

      If you are primarily going for lung shots (unless you want a guaranteed 100% quick kill bonus every single time, you should be going for double lung shots), and as long as you're shooting at animals within the effective range of your weapon (below the range where the projectile begins to lose kinetic energy and thus killing power), then use the soft points.
      If you are primarily going for skull/spine shots, shooting past the effective range of your weapon, or using a caliber of weapon that would be considered underpowered for the animal you are hunting, use the polymer tips for the increased penetration.
      Soft points will give you a greater initial damage when you shoot an animal, as well as a higher ticking bleed DoT, but suffer from decreased penetration, and thus aren't really suitable for skull/spine shots, or for use against larger animals than the caliber is designed for.
      Polymer tips will give you less initial damage and subsequent bleed DoT, but have higher penetration and shine in skull/spine shots, and for use on animals larger than what the caliber is designed for.
      It's not a case of polymer tips being an upgrade to soft points, it's more that each has a specific situation that you'd use them in and outside of that situation they don't perform as well. I'll be covering all this as well as shot placement in a future Hunter 101, so keep your eyes peeled for it.
      Good question!

      After a long browse through the Steam Discussion forums, and asking a few questions I learned that stats listed in game for the Polymer and Soft-point rounds are actually reversed. The Polymer tip has quicker expansion, but less penetration, and the soft-point has more penetration but less expansion. You can read this thread for more info: steamcommunity.com/app/518790/discussions/0/1368380934284661669/?ctp=2

    • @nuke2099
      @nuke2099 7 лет назад

      In the game polymer consistently get's better results over soft-points regardless of range or where you shoot. Polymer also has a greater chance at getting multiple vital hits than soft-points due to higher penetration even though it's supposed to be the other way around. Basically if you want maximum damage and stopping power you always go polymer.

    Loving the series so far, really helpful. A topic I would really like to see is the proper way to hunt each animal, ie. how integrity etc is calculated, how exactly lures and calls work etc, have you considered touching that topic?

    They really screwed up with the 270. It's in a position that's useless. It's too strong for black tail and too weak for moose and elk. It's pointless carrying around because if you come across a coyote or black tail you won't get the integrity bonus. I've just stuck with the 243 and 7mm the entire game. They need to fix it so it's as versatile as in real life

    I saved up for the 7mm first, which served me quite well and is still my go-to for a lot of game, then got the .338, which is better for Elk and Moose (and European Bison, but I rarely go to the German reserve). To be honest I kind of wish I'd gone for the 45-70 instead as I'm finding my favourite animal to hunt at the moment (and also one of the better animals in terms of money reward) is black bear (fun to track, $1000+ per kill) - 9 times out of 10 I'm hunting them in very dense brush where the shorter range doesn't matter, but having the quick follow-up shots would be good as sometimes they don't go down straight away, or they will even charge

    I've personally taken 180lbs white tail in PA with a 30-30 at 250 yds. It drops a lot more then a 30-06 or 7mm obviously but you can easily make a humane kill out to at least 300 yards with it on medium game with proper shot placement

  • @wonderoushistoryofclassicf9193

    I have hunted with a 30-30, if you use lighter grain higher power rounds (150-130 grain depends on your twist rate and barrel length) it works well at a maximum of 200 yards. It has around the same ballistic performance as a 7.62×39. It would be cool if you could adjust bullet weight and powder to make rounds in the game more effective.

      The dev team is fairly slow about fixing bugs. That being said, you get fantastic value for the money with the game and it's well worth picking up. If your PC can run it, I would suggest that platform since console seems to be lagging behind in terms of patches, bug fixes and content.

There are plenty of other glitches that are less fun but overall its definitely worth it especially to play with freinds cooperatively with the occasional competition. I game shared with 2 of my freinds that wanted the game so we can play together and cuz they really wanted it too... I waited like a year for it to come to xb1.... Worth the wait.

    I’ve been dropping moose, and deer with the .243 Winchester! I’d prefer the 6.5 Creedmoor in real life though. My favorite rifle caliber in real life is the 30.06 Springfield and they should totally have this in the game. Hopefully they add many more calibers, 300 Winchester Magnum, 50 Beowulf, 375H&H, .338 Lapua! Also muzzle brakes, and suppressors and a high powered air rifle, and black powder rifle should be added.

    I've used the .243 for moose and bison in the game the moose is harder then bison but bear are easy kills if your using the .243 aim for the spine of bigger game if you break the bone it'll die quicker the. Shooting it 10 or 12 times trying to get a double lung or heart shot.

    Did they buff the lever action rifles since this video. I lure hunt ALOT. With the round tip 30-30 ammo. I am single shotting 100 % Integrity Elk with it and single shotting Bull Moose with a spine shot at about 80% quick kill if i need to. Still at no more than 100 yards or whatever though.

      It's a fun game, but don't expect lightning-quick responses to bugs and game issues from the dev team.

    You can get a 270 completely free... if you go on the Savannah map in an online server you get the 270 completely free because it's the starting weapon

    In my opinion the .243 Winchester us the best for people who can't handle the recoil of a
    .308 . I dropped my first doe with my .243 Winchester

    Great video, a good guide, but I would argue a little about placing the 7mm above a 338, I have shot a 338 and it won't drop as fast as said, at least the load I shot didn't, also, if 338 had more drop then why would snipers use it over a 7mm. Not saying 7mm is a bad cartridge, just that a 338 is most likely a better choice. I may be wrong, it really just comes down to powder, bullet weight, how the bullet is made, and what's shooting it.

      Dat Sniper just got this game today, but isn’t the 338 on this game a 338 win not a lapua? I haven’t unlocked it yet so I’m not so sure

    • @jacobj9237
      @jacobj9237 6 лет назад

      yeah, i've never even played it, but I havent shot lapua, what I was shooting was edge

    • @MrThall7
      @MrThall7 6 лет назад

      Dat Sniper I’ve never shoot an edge, or know anyone in this area that has one. I own a couple Lapuas and they have some recoil to say the least

    • @jacobj9237
      @jacobj9237 6 лет назад

      It's uncommon, until recently there wasn't a factory gun loaded in it, so it was almost impossible to buy ammo unless you load it or know someone who does

    • @MrThall7
      @MrThall7 6 лет назад

      Dat Sniper i ran into the same issue for the .30-378, no store carried ammo for it. You could still order it online very easily. I had to end up selling my .243 WSSM because they only do limited runs of ammo. And only one company makes brass for the .243 WSSM. The brass alone is $2-$3

    Do you have to pay to unlock weapons?

    • @Gollywhompa
      @Gollywhompa  7 лет назад

      Only with in-game currency, Mr. Robot. As you kill and harvest animals you'll gain rewards in the form of experience, weapon skill points, and in-game currency; as your weapon skill increases, it unlocks higher-powered weapons, and you can then use your currency to purchase them in the in-game cache. No real money is involved in the unlocking and purchasing of weapons or gear in this game.
