I am getting this code in my 06 pt cruiser. The gas gage stays on full and fluctuated from full to empty while driving and gas warning light goes on and off when it goes to empty/full. I also have my check engine on and the reader shows engine control monitor. My question is since I need to replace the ECM do you think that the computer could be causing the fuel gauge problem as well? My ECM got zapped when replacing the starter and the gauge problem came w the ECM code. Wasnt happening before. Thanks for any advice.
Usually the fuel gauge level sensor is located with the fuel pump. As the fuel level changes, it sends a signal to the fuel gauge cluster. Im not quite 100% sure if your pcm is causing that problem. You would to look at a wiring diagram and make voltage checks.
I check the fuel trims stft went down to -3% an ltft stay at 25% I check fuel pressure an it had 46 lb an when rev the engine the pressure went down to 40 lb of pressure this is the 98 ford ranger 2.5 i wrote sometime last week on the short trims i went in increments of 1k to 3500 stft -3% an ltft stay at 25% thankyou like your videos they also put a new mass air flow sensor
It seems that short term is trying to do its job by trying to bring down the long term fuel trims. If I'm not wrong, short term at idle is 25% and with rpm increase it drops to -3%. Long term at idle is 29% and with rpm increase its drops to 25%. with these numbers, I still think you have a vacuum leak, perhaps an intake manifold gasket leak. I know you mentioned that the o2 sensors are ok, I would check the o2 readings when doing the rpm increment increase. can you make a short video and record the stft, ltft, bank 1 and bank 2 o2 sensors while performing the rpm increment test. email it at eguillen.tech@hotmail.com , thanks
Hello, Eli, great video, I am getting a P0462 error code in my Lincoln Navigator 2006. my fuel gauge seems accurate with the gasoline in the tank. no gas gauge issues but my check engine light stays on. when I check with a OBD2 scanner, I have got the Fuel Level Input value to 0, I was not able to read the voltage of the Fuel Level. Also the P0462 states Fuel level sensor A circuit low imput, What is the sensor A mean here? is there a sensor B somewhere there? thanks!
This vehicle only has one sensor, and it's called sensor A. Description: The powertrain control module monitors the fuel level input (FLI) circuit for electrical failure. The test fails when the signal moves below minimum allowable calibrated parameter for a specified fuel fill percentage in the fuel tank. Possible causes: Empty fuel tank Fuel pump module concern Incorrectly installed fuel gauge Damaged instrument cluster Damaged fuel gauge FLI circuit short to ground Diagnostic Aide: Monitor the FLI and FLI V PIDs in key on, engine running. A concern is present if the FLI PID is at 25% fill and the FLI V PID is less than 0.90 volt with a non-matching fuel gauge or the FLI PID is at 75% fill and the FLI V PID is greater than 2.45 volts with a non-matching fuel gauge.
2006 focus checked sending unit with volt meter and it goes up and down when moving the float up and down just dont have a scanner with live data any wsy to check jumper wire another way
rasz mataz When I get a chance I will check to se what kind system you have, for example a pull up or a pull down system. That will determine if you could you a jumper wire for this vehicle.
thanks for the video, i jumped the blue/black and black wire at the plug and my gauge went up very little and not noticeable. does it go up to a percentage of the fuel or it should go up about 1/4 of the tank as in your test?
im getting a P 0462 error code. my fuel gauge seems accurate with the gasoline im pumping. no gas gauge issues but my check engine soon light stays on. some guy told me to put "chevron techron plus" in a full tank of gas and it should go off but i put a bottle of Lucas in already and no change.please help me so i can get an emissions pass. just bought a 2003 nissan murano SL. not a happt camper right now
great video! my 08 chevy malibu has a similar problem. after i add gas it says its empty but as it gets empty it starts to read the actual level. i forgot what the code was but it said high voltage impute. should i change my fuel pump too?
pretty much it is your fuel level sensor unit that has gone bad, unfortunately it is not serviceable and u must replace the fuel pump to fix the problem
You may have a fuel level sensor signal circuit shorted to ground. Mostly likely you have a defective fuel level sensor. Worst case scenario, a defective body control module.
Hey thanks for the reply It was the connector under the driver rear seat. It was corroded and I was able to wiggle the wire and got it to 0.0v when checking the signal wire.
Have the same problem with my 07 charger, I have the p0462 code and my fuel gauge has never worked correctly. The dealership installed both fuel senders and pumps and it didn't fix the problem. Do you think it could possibly be the gauge cluster that is at fault?
98 ford ranger 2.5 oxygen sensors are OK no codes but only po 1000 somebody been here before me but it shaking you can see the motor shaking he put new plugs an wires an a coil the short term fuel trim is 25% an long term is 29% could that be a leak in the system
sounds like a vacuum leak. Raise the rpm in increments of 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and watch the long term fuel trims and see if it goes down of get worse. if long term fuel trims goes down it means there is a vacuum leak. if it gets worse by going higher, you probably have a fuel delivery or MAF sensor problem.
I wrote back maybe a WK ago on the 98 ford ranger 2.5 I forgot to tell you that I check freeze frame data an it the had a code po171 at 1800 rpm at 39 mph an had a 25%ltft an stft -3%
Kyle Rozema Most likely is going to be your fuel level sending unit which is part of your fuel pump. They do not sale the fuel sending unit by its self, you will need to buy the whole fuel pump. Unless, you go to a junk yard and just remove the fuel sending unit from the fuel pump.
Great job start to finish!
Nice video Eli. Very informative and what I needed to see. Thank you!
Very informative videos.thank you Eli keep up the good work, enjoy your videos.
great help.. i have 2007 durango which is having the same problem and code..
very good my brother

Eli TheOBDTech thanks was just wondering if that issue could have caused the other. Seemed weird that it was fine before.

ok i have 9.60 volts going into and comming out of sending unit

I believe in my case, it went half way and rapidly went down.
@@EliTheOBDTech yes I saw that yours went 1/4 and down. Mine has only 2 gallon gas so I thought may be a % would go up. Thank yoy
i have a 2004 ford f350 im having pcode 0463 after i installed a new fuel pump what do you think may be causing this issue?
great explanation,good job thanks!

I got 0.2v when checking the signal wire, if it is above 0 the problem lies where?
Do you have a P0463 or P0462?
You may have a fuel level sensor signal circuit shorted to ground. Mostly likely you have a defective fuel level sensor. Worst case scenario, a defective body control module.

Bschulte it could possibly be the fuel gauge cluster or maybe some type of electrical problem.
Bschulte American cars are know for faulty clusters
Yeah probably some kind of electrical, most likely cluster, thanks for the response

do u know 7f this would als8 cause my tank to overflow wen not full

ok thanxs for getting back to me
great. video.
what's diferet p0464
p0464 is just the opposite. Fuel level sensor low voltage. The circuit is shorted or there is an open circuit.
what if you do have voltage if you use the jumper wire
rasz mataz Sorry for the delay, busy work schedule, what kind of vehicle are you performing this test?
thanks. that means is the fuel level is bad
pretty much!
Thanks have a great day.
I got the same code but with a chevy. Any help or ideas
Actually, you can buy the sending unit seperately. With some GMs, there is a repair kit, also.
If u get a po463 just replace your fuel pump.
Shows the percentage of gas remaining
Just put another sensor in probably $20 on eBay then take it from there!
Fantastic thanks
Chido chido good
