    "The Indoctrination Theory, which was the most intelligent, mindblowing explanation for this poor ending; that we gave Bioware too much Credit"
    This is why I am still pissed off... Bioware, are MORE than capable of an ending of that magnitude...
    Or not.

    Remember how Bungie concluded their epic sci fi trilogy? Left on a cliffhanger that was open to future games but still concluded all the plot holes from the past games and gave us closure in an epic final sequence where are efforts payed off and we stopped the Flood. Why couldn't they have done that with ME3?

    • @theveryamericaneagle3657

      Because EA that's why.

    • @Clonetrooper8983

      Because that would be intelligent and take time and effort to plan. Remember, EA doesn't like waiting, cause the longer they have to wait for something the longer until people pay them money to play said something.

    It's funny that Joe eats most of his words in his EC analysis because the relays are now not Destroyed, the team is evacuated, Joker reluctantly leaves, the god child's dialog is adjusted, the fleet isn't stranded and closer at a more than acceptable but not the highest level is now in the story. I salute you Bioware and your open ears to the players despite EA breathing down your neck with it's bad reputation of rushing everything.

      Bioware didn't "open their ears and listen", all they did is basically say: "hey fans, you're too dumb to comprehend our ending, so we extend our shit for you to understand it." That is all they did. The ending still is a piece of shit, just with less plotholes.

      ***** Well I guess that sucks that you can't get what you want like when Suzann Collins killed off you-know-who in Mocking Jay or when Joss Weldon killed off you-know-who in Serenity.

      this is a game, not a drama-novel. In a novel you only have 1 ending, in a game like this you can have multiple different endings, as they promised all the time, why not put in a happy ending too, you can chose your control-synthesis, or kill the Geth Ending, but they should have put in a happier one too. You see how many people are angry? Especially about Caspar the suicidal ghost character. Point is they failed, people hate the game, because of the fucked up ending, the replay value is basically ZERO. Only PC users can at least install a fan-made Happy Ending Mod which saves the franchise for them.

    *sigh* this Shit still nags me like 2 and a half years later. If EA rushes this game out again when the next one comes out (hopefully in the next few years), then I swear I will boycot them. They ALMOST ruined the entire series for me with this ending, it's bullshit. But I will say, I don't think there will ever be a series like these 3 games that even after 2 and a half years, I will still tear up after even hearing the music during the end cutscenes. Seeing Liara put shepards name on the memorial will forever be a site burned into my memory.

    I actually preferred the indoctrination theory to the ending we were given. On my first run of ME3 I picked destroy but I was worried I had chosen wrong and that I had killed one of my favorite characters: EDI then I saw the indoctrination theory and I loved the complexity of the ending and how mind boggling it was. Then they just had to ruin it and it turns out I did kill EDI. THANK YOU FOR THE GUILT

    • @DynamicDurge

      Also multiple times in the game you are told that "you do the impossible". I mean, this is the same person who has multiple biotic powers, multiple guns, and can carry a goddamn portable nuke on his/her own back. And we're limited to this? Big slap in the face.

    • @xxxx-pw3en
      @xxxx-pw3en 10 лет назад

      It was so annoying, 3 games only to be left with this ending, saving countless people for what? Shepard just dies?.. Great... But how come at the end of destructing ending you see Shepard wake up? And on the others you don't? If Shepard had to die then I would like for it to be a bit clearer because I am sitting here confused on what actually happened. That DLC explained nothing -,-

    • @ShadowChief114
      @ShadowChief114 10 лет назад

      Yeah, I know how you feel. =( I like to think that EDI and the geth survived somehow. "God child" tells Shepard that even he has synthetics inside of him, and he survives the destroy ending somehow. Maybe their hardware was damaged/destroyed, and not their software, meaning that their data, memories, identities, etc are still around. That's just wishful thinking on my part, but with such an open-ended conclusion where so many things are left unexplained, it's kind of hard not to come up with your own explanations for things you hope happened.

    My fanon ending is: shep wakes up after red ending, nukes Harbinger with the help of the combined fleets, activates the crucible, and BAM reapers dead, relays go dark (but are reactivated) and then there is the struggle to maintain peace in a shattered galaxy with shep leading the council´s forces charge against groups taking advantage of the chaos.

    • @Ellinon_Vasileus
      @Ellinon_Vasileus 4 года назад

      Also in that approach you can do this.... Avoid the classical trope "you kill the head and all the minions are dead too" and just let all the husks and the other reaper creations still wonder in the planets...
      So Shepard and his company will still have to fight those hordes and clean the galaxy as well as those you said that took advantage of the chaos...
      Here. Mass effect 4 ready! If only they did the end of me3 as they should!

    I think EA is telling Bioware not to talk about the Indoctrination Theory, if you believe it or not, or not to change the ending because they want people to buy the DLC's. Even though all of the DLC's are out, Mass Effect 3 has no ending.

    Best case scenario the DLC wipes our memory of the star child and treats the crucible like a weapon, just like it was treated until you got there. Also, that Shepard inexplicably takes a dump on an easter egg Mass Effect 3 game copy in his quarters.

  • @andrewsparks9700
    @andrewsparks9700 11 лет назад +1

    It changes that the Mass Relays are damaged and repaired. It shows why Jeff is retreating from the fight. It adds a memorial. Shows the worlds being rebuilt and geth and quarians in peace if you saved them. It shows krogan with children if you cured the Genophage and lets your entire crew possibly live. It also has your crew have a memorial for Shepard. Even a voice over to narrate Shepard's victory if he chose the original 3 endings. And a 4th ending where the cycle continues. It's better

    Throughout the game I felt like I was making a difference, the choices I made, the things other characters did like sacrificing themselves and the events that transpired because of my actions in ME2. Even the little emails like Kal'Reegar that I saved in ME2 explaining that he died trying to save people near the end of ME3. The amount of feelings talking with your squad and the ME2 sqaud before the final battle... it all felt taken from me with the ending they gave... no closure... no happiness.

  • @Razgriz005
    @Razgriz005 12 лет назад +1

    still im happy with the endings. i felt that, 1. the task seems to be impossible for the characters leads well into the ending 2.Shepard's death seems to be the best fitting end for the series (the ultimate sacrifice for the ultimate victory). although still pissed about working through save imports since the first mass effect building up powers and relationships just for all that to mean nothing just because i jumped in a energy beam and turned it green like Shepard was a drop of food coloring.

    YES! Because in the universe of Mass Effect, IT MAKES SENSE! You have to suspend your disbelief sometimes, but the space magic goes against the universe we were taught to suspend our disbelief. In other words, the "space magic" has no context in the universe and is silly compared to light speed and the ability to control gravity, which we were taught to believe in because in the universe it is possible.

    Okay, we can work through this, mate.
    1. Destroyed, but with all the reaper stuff that is now available to everyone what with the reapers being gone or turned to the good side, they are rebuild-able, bit of a cop-out with the destroy ending but we can't get everything perfect.
    2. relays rebuild-able, hence not stranded
    3. alive on destroy ending, dead in all others, but his consciousness remains in control ending
    {Continuing in new message}

  • @AceKWM
    @AceKWM 10 лет назад

    They weren't saying the ending was bad, they are saying in a nice way that you didn't understand what happened. Also if the indoctrination theory was true, the red ending wouldn't have happened because Shep was unconscious and unable to kill the reapers, which insinuates that the reapers are guaranteed to kill themselves if they stop Shep from reaching the conduit, what great writing that would've been

    In fact the extended cut DLC was already released and all the endings are avalaible to see on RUclips.
    I just saw two of them (the control and reaper destruction ones) and I've to admit that they did a pretty decent job putting a lot of new content and also explaining and justifying some previous nonsensical things of the original endings (for example, why Joker would have escaped from the battlefield). However, some of those plot holes still prevail...

  • @iSaintRichie23

    Yes, technically, he would have, but look at it this way. He is presented with 3 ways to stop or neutralize the Reapers. If he refused, he is essentially saying that all the options are intolerable - including the option to destroy the reapers. In that case, Shepherd was just tricked by the Reapers by convincing him into inaction. Alternatively, it can be seen as a sign that he lost the will to try and destroy the Reapers, and died near the beam.

    BEST CASE SCENARIO - at the ending the reapers are destroy all machine are destroyed, FOR EXAMPLE " EDI dies GETH DIES" and shepard takes a breath at the end
    BEST CASE SCENARIO FOR MASS EFFECT 4
    - every thing that was destroyed is rebuilt FOR EXAMPLE ("THE RELAYS, THE GETH, AND EDI AND THE CITADEL") and you play as some one else in MASS EFECT 4 for just that game and the mission of the person you play as is to recover SHEPARD and the person you play as dies in the end.
    ONE MORE BEST CASE SCEN

    Listen closely:
    I've already read on the crucial details recently released a few hours ago about this DLC, and well...you have to understand that there are things in this world that don't always work out as much as we could expect. Not everyone can be satisfied, and not everyone can fathom the amount of satisfaction.
    Think back to the when the controversy first broke out. The first major complaints about the ending were the lack of closure and an epilogue. This was before the IT came to be.

  • @aperson30
    @aperson30 12 лет назад

    It is still a huge possibility, you have to understand that the purpose of the EC was not to change the ending, only clarify it for those who did not understand, maybe this is the way they want the game to end, with everyone confused, then in the future maybe they can add more to the story afterwards.

    The crucible itself isn't so unrealistic, it's the fact that a beam that can either destroy all synthetic life, control the entire reaper race, or fuse synthetics and organics doesn't make sense. The fact that a series of races built the crucible's plans are bs, but the "space magic" everyone talks about. Not the crucible itself, but the results.

  • @Gravedigger.
    @Gravedigger. 12 лет назад

    that's not the point, the crucible was originally meant to send out a EMP-like wave that would destroy the reapers, not magically transplant technology into organics.

    4. The God Child is waiting for organics to work together to stop the reapers, The reapers exist to end conflicts, not just between organics and synthetics, but between organics themselves. He is there so that when the organics finally manage to work together, thus ending the conflicts throughout the galaxy, andt the reapers are obsolete. there's a reddit post about it somewhere.
    5. Illusive Man's power to control other's bodies is due to his reaper tech, it's a low level indoctrination power.

  • @Pariahmachina
    @Pariahmachina 12 лет назад

    The problem isn't with the "God child" or relay destructions. The problem is there is only 3(identical) endings instead of hundreds of unique endings. All the different choices you can make in ME1+ME2+ME3 should give hundreds of different combinations, and the ending should reflect your excact combination

  • @RicoLen1
    @RicoLen1 12 лет назад

    The real problem with this series was not so much the endings themselves, it was that Drew Karpyshyn left the team. His ideas for the games ending was... well scary brilliant, and much darker and horrific than the endings we got. But when he left the creative team didn't go as far as Drew would have.
    Sorry but I LIKE the idea that the reapers were trying to save organic life, and that the human reaper could have been organic life's saving grace from the dark energy that was eating the galaxy.

    I don't really get the problem with the Normandy escape scene. They were told to get out of there because they had no idea what the Crucible would do. It made sense to make a get away. If you saw a big wave of colored radiation coming your way, wouldn't you run?

  • @RetroMenace
    @RetroMenace 12 лет назад

    Best Case Scenario: Shepard backhands the god-child so hard that he reveals a fourth option for the Crucible; turning the Reapers into giant Arcades and Pizza Parlors at the cost of setting all Justin Beiber CDs on fire.
    Worst Case Scenario: Indoctrination Theory is disproved and Mythbusters is canceled.

    Actually, the original ending had to do with Dark Energy where you learn that the Reapers were trying to stop the spreak of Dark Energy...which was basically consuming everything ever 50000 years. This ending was scrapped because it got leaked and Drew Karpyshyn left the team. Just search for leaked script.

    What I meant to say is that if the ending to a good game is a dissapointment because it doesn't make sense, "space magic", then that's all we remember, the terrible ending because of space magic. We don't hate the ending because it isn't happy, we hate it because it didn't make sense. And biotics and mass relays may seem silly to us, but in the universe of Mass Effect they did make perfect sense. That "space magic" we're all talking about made no sense in the universe of Mass Effect.

    *The geth and EDI DO NOT survive the Destroy ending (the Catalyst makes it very clear that the blast wave does not discriminate)
    *In control, Shepard becomes "God" basically, and the Reapers REPAIR THE MASS RELAYS

    yeah - i know that hackett says the relays are "damaged" - that's like saying Marie Antoinette was "wounded" after her date with the guillotine. And yea - the extended cut (aka "allow us to explain why our ending was awesome and you suck") is free, but the leviathan dlc, which contains plot-essential info is not.

    The worst thing about this game was that it was so close. So close to being the greatest sci-fi epic in gaming history. This trilogy was a masterpiece until the very end. And worst of all, all Bioware had to do was adopt the Indoctrination Theory and they would have made history.

    I don’t know, the extended cut ending could have been a lot better but I was overall satisfied with it. At least they actually did something, not a lot of developers would.

    The breathing scene makes zero sense if he's not indoctrinated. I guarantee you the next game with shepherd you will find out that in mass effect 2 and 3 you are playing as a clone of shepherd and in the breathing scene at the end of ME3 it's the synthetically fixed original shepherd finally waking up.

    question? who thinks the reapers would have been a much more menacing and overall better antagonist if their logic was simply "your existence is wrong, our existence is right. I have nothing more to say to you" or something along those lines?

    I would still like to believe in the Indoctrination Theory. xD It was great. With the fourth ending added into the game, when you refuse, notice that the Starchild gets mad. That you refuse to do what they wanted. When he gets mad, notice his voice sounds eerily similar to Harbingers... meaning that their influence failed. But I just feel the Extended Cut was added to give closure to those who asked for it. Maybe the fourth ending just helps prove the Indoctrination Theory a little further.

    People aren't saying they don't like the game. They're saying that the endings are insulting to everything that lead up to it. Casey Hudson and Bioware lied about the vastly different endings, the endings that were going to satisfy all the fans, the endings that were going to leave us with more answers than questions, and the endings that would show your choices making a difference. Bioware has just taken an even larger shit on its fans, but at least they didn't pay this time.

    Why Bioware continues to harp that artistic vision line when it's obvious that the original ending came about as a result of demands from the publisher to get the game out by a fixed deadline and to make sure that the game's ending was capable of supporting future paid DLC and possible sequels is just beyond me.

    The best case for me would be,Shepard wakes up, they have the epic battle and win. He has his happy ending with who ever he romanced (my case Ashley), and got a good closure seen with all Shepards homie. That would be satisfying

    The Mass Relays were only confined to OUR galaxy. In fact, the entire Mass Effect series is set within the Milky Way Galaxy.

    I think they succeeded for the most part in "plot holes" but at the same time they left space for the Indoctrination Theory. Being indoctrinated is probably what happened but Shepard was probably still moving and like a husk and we saw it like a dream. Or Destroy is the right option.
    I think they're like "okay here's what really happened but here's a little more... just for fun."

    My solution: in my head, Shepard fought off indoctrination and saved the day, somehow sacrificing himself in the process (because Mass Effect is a martyr story arc). THAT'S HOW IT GODDAMN ENDED.

    (Trying to destroy the Reapers x 5 years + desire to save the Mass Effect galaxy) - the final satisfying destruction of the reapers + developers wholesale sellout of the Mass Effect universe = The Mass Effect mess
    I call this "The Mass Effect mess" equation.

    Heres what goses down.
    If your romance option is in your squad then he/she is injured and is taken to the normandy by your other squad mate. They have an emotional momment (Tali and sheps)
    Tali: Don't leave me behind
    Shep: Go to ranoch and build your self a home.
    Tali: I have a home (With shep)
    And if there not in your squad then there doing some other junk. (Garrus is calabrating :3)

    I can't really say that I agree or disagree with you because there is one thing that is missing: How long did Reaper Indoctrinate Shepherd?
    The Codex said this "{Long-term} physical effects of the manipulation are unsustainable. Higher mental function decays, ultimately leaving the victim a gibbering animal = insane." But wait "{Rapid} indoctrination is possible, but causes this decay in days or weeks". So short term indoctrination + strong will could wake up Shepard from being indoctrinated.

  • @CamperCarl00
    @CamperCarl00 11 лет назад

    Well, if you exclude the Director's Cut scenes that were pasted into the game, then there were logical flaws and bits in the game that made it seem like Shepard was being manipulated (since the indoctrination is supposed to kick into full gear after getting hit by Harbringer). I'm still holding out though since the Director's Cut has a "Shepard Memorial" scene even if you were able to get the Shepard's breath scene. This makes me think that a DLC will eventually be released with a new ending.

    1.) That I can partially agree on.
    2.) Realistically, it wouldn't work. Your EMS only went toward the protection of the Crucible. A fleet of a hundred-thousand ships isn't enough to defeat the reality of BILLIONS of Reaper warships across the entire expanse of the galaxy. The Crucible is the ONLY way to stop them.
    3.) The key term being "ONE of the Reapers leading the attack on Earth." That means there's more than one "leader," if you will. Also, Harby's not the absolute ruler of all Reapers.

    I think what is more scary is that these publishers use digital download as an excuse to ship their games into pieces. Like selling full price for a game, only to release the ending in a DLC for an additional $10 weeks later......

  • @NaN00000
    @NaN00000 12 лет назад

    Now for synthesis:
    The Reapers become our allies, the relays are repaired, the quarians take off their masks (except Tali dammit), and EDI is assumed to be pregnant with Joker's child..............okaaaaaaaaaay...

    1.) Anderson took a bullet to the gut. He's not going to walk from that.
    2.) You do know you can refuse the Catalyst, right? Also, you do know what happens if you let the battle unfold, right?
    3.) Harbinger's not the leader of the Reapers. Plus, there's no way to win the war conventionally without the Crucible, and there's no need to "fight" the Catalyst.
