  • In today's video I'm using my new Godox Camera Flash Speedlite for Nikon, it's a fantastic speedlite for macro and insect photography and I'm really impressed by it's power, even after using F/25 I'm still able to light up the insect correctly even without using the full power of it.
    I'm using with it the Sigma macro 70-300mm lens attached to it the NISI Close up filter to be even closer to the insect.

    The little green insect in one picture near an ant is an aphid. Ants drink honey dew produced by aphids and plant hoppers

    Some very nice photos here.
    That green thing was an aphid. The ants farm them and protect them and they "milk" them to get a sweet sugary waste liquid that the aphids produce. In the next photos they were attacking the Ladybird. This is because Ladybirds are a voracious predator of aphids and would happily munch through all the aphids in the ants farm - so they attack them to keep them away and the aphids safe. Aphids are all female. They are born alive (not eggs) and already pregnant. Usually they don't have wings but one there are enough of them in an area they suddenly get born with wings and fly off to start new colonies. Those three photos tell a great story.

    Hey, do you think it’s possible to take macro photo with 70-300mm, but without flash light and tripod?

    • @TheMoodyPhotographer
      @TheMoodyPhotographer  6 месяцев назад

      Hi, I think it's really hard, you'll mostly have shaky photos... If the subject is under direct sunlight it'll be better.

    what is the difference between close up rings, extension tubes and lens reversal rings?

    • @TheMoodyPhotographer
      @TheMoodyPhotographer  3 года назад +1

      Close up rings are exactly like the magnifier which help us to read small fonts. We use close up rings on the lens in front of it to make the insect or the subject looks bigger.
      Extension tubes can be connected directly on the body of the camera and after that comes the lens, it's role is to make the lens a little bit far from sensor of the camera and like this the subject will look also bigger than usual when the lens is attached in a normal way.
      The reverse ring helps in attaching the lens reversed, which means the front of the lens will be now the back of it and will be the part of the lens which is close to the camera sensor, in this way the lens itself will be turned into a very strong magnifier, it's strength depends on the lens itself, for example the 18-55mm reversed is a lot better than 70-300mm reversed, when you reverse the lens you need a smaller focal length and not longer.

      @@TheMoodyPhotographer which one is best to recreate a the magnification and focus distance of an actual macro lens? i have the reversal ring but the focus distance is very very close

    • @TheMoodyPhotographer
      @TheMoodyPhotographer  3 года назад

      @@svvdm Yeah you're right, that's the problem of the reverse ring, you have to be so close to the insect which means it'll fly most of the time before taking the photo.
      The close up rings are better in this situation because you can still be farther than when you reverse the lens.
      I haven't ever used the extension tubes, but as I see in RUclips videos you can also be farther than a reversed lens.
