What jimmy is singing about you feel that this country was in a better place, just look at it now . What would those poor souls think who die for freedom in all the wars , our leaders and the conduct of the population should look in the mirror . Thanks for the song jimmy..
I was fortunate to be at AWP At 40 for the evening show and it turned into a very special and emotional night. A very measured and respectful evening for all those involved in bringing us probably the best British TV comedy drama ever, that was ahead of its time and still so relevant 40 years on, especially in its social comment. Was like finally meeting old friends! Jimmy Nail gave a terrific and at times emotional performance in the second half. Was wonderful to see him perform Big River live in Newcastle for which you could hear a pin drop while he did. Jimmy also performed I Can’t Be Myself in Oz’s blue jacket from season 2. Absolutely brilliant and a once in a lifetime evening that was well worth the trip to Newcastle😊
You can tell he is getting emotional towards the end i hear he was in tears by the end as was Tim Healy who came out on stage just as Jimmy finished this song.
He did the same song at the evening show and got his introduction to the song even more perfect than he did here, if that's even possible. I cried all the way through it thinking of my late dad, who worked in Swan Hunter shipyard on Tyneside.
As a fan of AWP from a very early age,I would’ve loved to have been at this,Jimmy sounding amazing too. Also a big Sam Fender fan and would love to hear him cover this song.
I got all of his singles and albums. What performer......🎸
Perhaps one of the most criminally underrated singers ever. And a beautiful song.

I wish we could rebuild Jimmy and the river would rise again. Our grandchildren need a safe country to live in xx

Was there a reason they were all seated for the show?
Great Tune but its got nowt to do with Auf Wiedersehen it was recorded yes by Jimmy Bradford in 1992
it would have been a short night if every song had to have something to do with AWP
