    you can also format a single 16GB drive with Ventoy and install tens of live ISO and have a choice at boot; support most distro, minimalistic aproach :)

    For me, I have a 2017 13inch MacBook base model, and it's only a dual-core i5. So it might be better at running a Linux distro than mac os. And so far none has worked that I liked. Most of them the wifi does not work or the trackpad does not work. Since my MacBook also has a 2k display some Linux distros will not size with the screen correctly and the scaling will make icons smaller. However elementary os seemed to work straight up in the live enjoinment and I didn't have any scaling issues at all. (without sound ofc)

    got a 2011 macbook air - running ubuntu studio on it currently. Its the smoothest running Ive seen it. The screen looks good, audio is nice. Shame it's not the 8 Gb Air, but as it was gifted - cannot complain.
    It just works well.

    Personally, in terms of drivers I've had the most luck with Manjaro on my MacBook Air, specifically XFCE. It's also fairly easy to configure it to look like MacOS too. Really Manjaro is nice since the AUR has some of the more obscure drivers I need for Apple hardware.

      I've been thinking of trying Manjaro on my Air for a while now. How has your battery life been? Were you able to get all drivers to work including the webcam and sleep/suspend functions?

    • @alexandercrews1194
      @alexandercrews1194 3 года назад

      @@brandonpaul3985 Battery life is not great, although my MacBook is a few years old and the battery isn't great anyways. It's maybe a little better than it is in Windows 10 but the best battery life I've gotten is in MacOS. As for drivers, sleep/suspend worked for me out of the box but I could never find a working version of the FaceTimeHD driver for my webcam. It's similar issues that I experienced in Ubuntu, and the Bootcamp webcam driver is also pretty buggy. Overall I'd say give it a shot but I'd go for vanilla Arch or Garuda instead next time.

      2) Plug USB audio card/headphones

    Dmitry, thanks a lot for showing the distris! I want to try installing on the "bucket" Mac Pro, hope this tincan can run Linux as well..
    One question: On the "Mac Finder" I can show the file path as "columns" in the window (not symbol or list), something Windows cannot do, but is very versatile. Is this in these Linux distributions possible? (like elementary or Kubuntu?)

      @@NomadicDmitry Thanks for getting back to me. My MP 2,1 (was a 1,1) has been updated as far as it will go and, as you probably know, Apple crippled the EFI with 32bit but the machine has 64bit architecture and so it is no problem to run Windows 10 Pro, which I have installed on a seperate disk. I am also running El Capitan ( a special version that has been modified (not by me) to run on the 1,1 and 2,1 machines. Yesterday, I installed Linux on a disk using my MP 5,1 and then installed it in the MP 2,1 but rEFind did not see it when it booted up. Every time I have tried to install Linux in the past, I get the same issue - It remains invisible or if I try to install via a CD, the CD will not boot (You can't boot from a USB drive on MPs 1,1 and 2,1). When I loaded rEFfind yesterday, I though I might be able to install it but it does not give me a choice of where (which disk) to install it. Of course, you can run Linux in a virtual machine but I was hoping to use my MP 2,1 mainly for Linux and Windows. Windows runs very smoothly on the 2,1 (SSD and 32gb Ram). That's about it. Any thoughts?

    How long does the battery last on a typical day?

    • @NomadicDmitry
      @NomadicDmitry  3 года назад +1

      It totally depends on:
      1) Your usage
      2) Brightness
      3) Mac vs Linux. On Linux the battery is discarging faster, for some reason the optimisation for battery is not great
      4) Most inportantly - battery cycles. I have almost 1000, my battery is very old. It gives me only an hour of running time even on Mac OS
