Aspen, I've known Aussies most all my life. I just said farewell to my 16 year old Blue Merle. Never - Never - Never blame a dog for its behavior. Understand it from a dog's perspective. Herding dog, Shepherd, Hunter, Protector... and the list goes on. If your Aussie (and I know you didn't say this) is troublesome; it is because that creature has not had opportunity to develop what it was meant to be. To do 'A' job. You are a surprisingly adept judge of what your Aussie is capable of, but you need to (no matter how far you've gone) go further into nurturing what this "LIFE FORM'" is all about. We bred these dogs into being something other than an instinctual wolf; we owe them the opportunity and UNDERSTANDING - beyond our own ideas of 'cuteness', to live their lives as adventurous yet safe as we have tried to make our own lives. It is so easy - too easy - to take an innocent creature into our home and judge it for being it's own life form. No matter how privileged or superior you think you are; you are not, I repeat 'No better' than that life you assumed responsibility for.
+Eric Flint I am sorry for what you are going through. I have been there, and I know how much it hurts to loose your best friend. This is a video all about the positive aspects of Aussies (nothing is negative in this video). I am a bit confused about where you got the impression that I was ranting about my Aussie, or where you got the impression that I believe that I am too privileged or superior to assume responsibility for her (she is very well taken care of in all of her needs). I can only assume that this is being written during a time where you are hurting - so I wish you all the best.
You are a fine pet owner and the video was wonderful. I was speaking in a general way not meaning you specifically. Apologies that it came out so. Yes I'm feeling very protective for Aussies and dogs in general. It's hard not being able to take care of my long time companion. Best wishes to you and your family.
I have an 11 year old mini merl Aussie who has been an unbelievable blessing over these many years. I never had to teach him to fetch, it was built in! He loves people and loves company. The only con that I could possibly list is that he does shed but if I brush him often enough it’s not bad. I was given this sweet sweet and very smart dog after losing my 15 year old Westie who was with me all the time. My whole family grieved. Having had chronic pain for 10 years, he has been a constant companion and a reason to push myself to keep going. This is a truly awesome breed and as the breeder who made a gift of him said “they love and want to be with their people”. Was she ever right.💕😊 btw He never begs for food and since he was born has been on a certain high quality dog food. He does get table scraps but I do sometimes give him very small bites of my food but RARELY. Learned a lesson from my Westie who was a notorious begger. My fault, I spoiled him with food from the table. My dad was the worst about giving my Westie food. Both my parents have passed and I’d be happy to see my sweet Daddy sneak food to my dog just to have him here for a while. We will see each other again though.
So glad I found your channel. We got our 1 y/o Aussie Mac 4 months ago and I can agree on all of your best things. What we've found is 150 mph, or sleep activity wise. So easy to train and so easy to forget they need an active lifestyle (we had a 15 y/o border collie who passed and we weren't quite ready as a family in the beginning). Highly recommend crating, seems to most definitely put their minds to rest and avoid those so called bad activities. Tons of fun, follows like a shadow and always eager to please.. :)
I have a black tricolor miniature Aussie. He smiles all the time. He is very comical at times. At times he is very needy when it comes to affection. And other times he just goes off by himself and lays by a door. Why a door? I have no idea. His coat is super thick. He looks kinda like a little black bear cub. I love your dogs eyes. As far as being loyal, and protective. I’d say my Jack Russell Terrier was the best dog I’ve ever had. I just couldn’t bring myself to get another one so soon after he passed away a year and a half ago. He had become part of me in the sixteen years we were together. But I sure do love my little Aussie, Gunner!
I've had an Australian shepherd, border collie mix breed and I'd never ask for any other breed of dog. Sadly though he's only got about another year to live so I'm want to play less video games and more with him.
Just brought my Australian Shepherd home two weeks ago at 8 weeks old. She’s in training to be my psychiatric service dog and so far her training is going great! I knew Australian Shepherds were smart before I got little Scout, but I wasn’t prepared for just how amazingly smart she is. She’s already learned sit, come, lay down, up, shake, high five, wave, spin, speak, leave it and we’re working on potty training and the stay command. She does amazing off leash and always comes back when called. She’s learning to walk on a leash as well and sometimes even carries it and walks herself!
I'm a dog lover all my life, had in the past Cocker Spanields, Schnauzers, Dashhunds, German Shepherds, etc. Now I have a six month old Black Tri Aussie, Best dog I've ever had, just love it!!!
I’ve grown up with three dogs two of which are blue mural Australian Shepard’s. One of them, his name is Wilson, and also has a magnificent tail, and we joke around that’s he’s a princess. The other, her name is pepper and she’s such a brute, the difference between them is night and day. I can’t imagine myself with any other kind of dog, just absolutely amazing. Their so enthusiastic and loyal, I absolutely adore them.
My Aussie is literally a cat. Bats at all his toys and lays on the top part of the couch a lot. the most hilarious little wiggly bugger and literally is my shadow. Loves every person and animal ever. I live in a more rural area now and can run disc and flyball with him for an hour or two a day every day. But may be moving to a much more urban area and hope he stays as happy as he is 😥
They are intelligent because they're working dogs. I take my aussie everywhere and I spend an hour or so a day playing frisbee or fetch because I understand her need to work. So sad that there are so many of these dogs in rescue shelters because people are really ignorant and irresponsible and buy an aussie pup because its' pretty. :(
Agreed. My roommate has one & it's the saddest thing ever. I'm not personally a fan of this breed, but probably that's because my roommate's Aussie is all the things a pent-up, not properly trained, not given enough exercise Aussie Shepherd becomes. She's the most annoying dog I've ever had to be around because she absolutely does not listen & is extremely focused on misbehaving because she has nowhere productive to work out her energy. I told my roommate - who is not particularly active, is a busy mom of 2 that works long hours - "You do realize that this dog was bred to chase livestock up mountains all day, right? You're going to need to walk this dog EVERY DAY. You can't slack." And so...the dog gets to a dog park maybe once a month. On short walks a couple of times a week. Out in the backyard daily, but it's not enough. So, she shreds everything she can get her teeth into. She bites & nips. She barks & whines. And whines. And whines. She goes absolutely bonkers when my roommate comes home from work & harasses anyone who comes in the door, jumping up & mouthing their hands & barking while people are trying to have a conversation. I totally appreciate what Aussie Shepherds are when they are properly trained & allowed to be what they were bred to be...but when they're not properly trained, they're not smart at all. This one's dumb as a sack of hammers & willing to learn absolutely nothing.
@@guvj4fyufudrs2444 Nope. Not gonna do it. This dog is my roommate's responsibility. I have my own dog & I take care of him - she has to make the time to take care of hers. I didn't choose that breed, she did.
I have to agree they are the most loyal dogs! My aussie will always choose me over literally anyone and anything else including food or treats. It's absolutely crazy! lol I just love that about him💕
Facts about my Australian shepherd: 11 years old. She is a Australian shepherd mix with a beagle. She lives to play and knows lots of tricks like sit, ly down, roll over and play dead
Great list for this delightful breed. I've had my Molly for two years now, and she's ever so loyal to the whole family... just wants to "be with her pack of humans". Only drawback? When she gets around her dog friends at the local dog park, she tends to want to stay as long as there's a single dog IN the park. Doesn't want to leave. She's getting better, but I think the hearing gets shut off when we go there. Enjoy Aspen, she's going to bring a lot of joy into your home.
+Jim Taylor Mine is the same at the dog park. Once she figures out that we are heading to the gate - she takes off. Now we grab her at the opposite end of the park (furthest from the entrance) before she even starts to think that its time to go.
I also find that if you get them tired enough... run them enough... they're MUCH more responsive to vocal commands. So now we get Molly tired out, and then she actually hears "Sit"... and then put her on the lead to leave. If that doesn't work, then we also have to run to the furthest area in the dog park, and surprise her with the leash. It works, but it's better if you train them to just sit and stay. It'll happen... my wife's the one who figured out the whole exhausted thing. Molly's actually a tri color like Aspen... just with brown eyes. I constantly get compliments on her looks.
I find that treats usually work best. Sometimes she doesn't seem to hear (or just plain feigns it) her squeaky toys. But treats rule all! Enjoy your pup.... she may respond differently!
This is all so true! I own a Black try brown eyed male. And he is so weird and amazing and yeah! Whenever I look at him from below when he is looking down he looks like he has bat ears! And in a action shot! They are amazing!
I have an eight months old blick tri aussie. He is my life. He is super loyal and smart, he knows a lot of tricks. The best dog, could not imagine a life without an aussie. I have since before together with my mother a three years old mix between aussie, collie and border collie, he is also supersmart and really beatuiful.
Your dog is so beautiful and cute!! I have a mini Australian black tri and he’s awesome and I agree on all 10 of these points!! I’ve never owned one before him and I think he is so fun!! He brings a lot of joy 😀❤️
I love Ausies so badly 😀 Well i think every dog can be smart if you spend a lot of time with him and to train him. I have a miniyorkshire and she's also very smart one 🙂❤️
I have an Australian Shepherd, a girl too. Her name is Evee she is a red merle. She is turning 8 next month, and still needs to walk/jog 3 miles with us and play fetch for 30-60 minutes everyday. She loves being with us no matter what we're doing!
Thanks so much for this video my mam will make up her mind for this dog. My dog died a few weeks ago but my mam wants to buy us a dog and she will love this dog. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! ☺☺☺
I heard they were extremely intelligent! you know how all owners use the term ''potty'' or '' pee pee'' when asking their dogs if they wanna go out? Well mine is sooo intelligent, I just said ''mommy's got to go to the BATHROOM'' and she immediately went to her puppy pad as if she was saying ''well if SHE can do it so can I!" top THAT! lol
I have an Aussie mix with Husky and all his smiles are the cute, he has one where his lip is not coverin his tooth so he looks funny. Another where he is showing his bottom teeth and just stares at you after panting, so adorable. He has the cutest face ever!!! I get that a lot too!!! He is like a son to me :-D
I see the thumbnail has the famous Aussie stare. They love to look directly in your eyes and wait for a task or to get your attention. They make great frisbee dogs, my Aussie loved his Nylabone frisbees, and was easy to teach to catch a frisbee.
I love my Blue Merle Australian Shepard, he has a Partial Blue eye. They are so Smart, Hyper dogs so much energy!, Rosco is my Puppy and he is a happy dog and a lot of Fun! They love their Owners so much and are so Loyal. Rosco loves his Baths! Every where we go People just thinks he is Gorgeous.
I love that aussies come in so many variations like their personality. You can get small, medium, and large. You can get a long or bobbed tail. You can get brown, blue or a mixed eyes. Colors come in so many I can't name them all. XD
To be honest completely when I get older I want a dog like this. Not just because of their markings but so I can be outside more. So I can get outside more. Because I’m not energetic enough and an Australian Shepherd can help me with that.
LOL!!!!! best dog i ever owned.....i had 3 and now have 2.....my blue merle hates going to PETCO or Petsmart....she loves going to HOME DEPOT....we couldnt figure it out, she gets a treat when she comes in, midway, and when she leaves....she gets alot of attention at Home Depot.....
I have always had dogs, specifically herders. super smart, attentive and loyal. I understand their need for attention and stimulation, and love it. I have been without a dog for several years and so want an Aussie. here's my question though... I am a full time police officer in a large urban city. I wouldn't be allowed to bring my dog to work, but the opportunity for quality training and practical stimulation is endless. I am very active...like ride my bike 30 miles a day and then go for a run active. I work on the bicycle unit, so it adds another 30 or so miles to each day as well. I rent an apartment, but actually stay on my sailboat year-round. on the water in the spring and summer and on the hard in the winter months. Needless to say, I live a unique and rough life for an urban setting. Can you imagine an Aussie, not just accepting and adapting to a lifestyle like that, but thriving in a ever-changing and unique life-setting? Can, in your opinion, an Aussie handle my 9 hr shifts of downtime either alone or with another sitter (sole sitter w/o other animals)
lucius1013 I honestly think that's a lot of alone time for an Aussie. I know mine would just be distraught and anxious being alone that much. They are very very much people dogs.
lucius1013 I say yes. Mine sleeps a lot in the day, and I'm home 24/7. He wakes me up at 5 am, and is able to adjust & assimilate very well. If you're moving around being so active, imo, he'd LOVE it. He'd just sleep when you leave for work then be ready to go to work again. It would be better to leave him with a sitter of course, but mine is fine if I have to leave. Just leave him plenty of toys, and I leave the tv on a calm music channel or cartoons & maybe a talk radio station in another room. I am not going to judge, but I hope you're able to #adoptnotshop? 😉
Pets For days I don’t understand why you keep suggesting getting one of these other extremely high energy working dogs? What’s the difference? They are all highly intelligent dogs that all need a high amount of exercise and stimulation.
I've been enjoying your videos about the Aussie Shepherd and got basically convinced to get one. You mentioned in your 10-best-things video that you have been to Brazil. I am an American living in Brazil... would you have some indications/recommendations about where (who) to get one in Brazil? Kindly let me know the contacts information. Tks!
This is a great vid. I have a miniature austalian shepherd and he is going 3yr old on june. And he is my gem. Not just because he is funny very smart and gorgeous. But me and him are like B1 and B2 he goes wherever i am in the house even in the shower. He wouldnt get up until im up and he goes to bed when i say goodnight. And most of all he can sense when im upset at my husband because he will never great him when he comes home from work like my dog usually do and will just stare at my husband and walk towards me then pretty much just ignore my husband and would prefer to hang out with me.
I currently have my sister Australian Shepherd. And I am a couch potato. Wouldn’t seem like a good match. But my Aussies Have been couch potatoes with me but if I stand up they are ready to rock ‘n’ roll.
Mine does. She is 5 yrs old. We got her about 5 yrs ago. We have since retired. Rory lays around the house. She does love her evening walks. She is an inside mini Aussie. I went through a deep depression. I was so bad I tried to commit suicide. But because of her I pulled semi out of it. She is now my service dog. I have PTSD. I was molested 3 times when I was younger. When we go somewhere. She sits behind me leaning against my legs. She warns me when someone walks up behind me. She keeps my anxiety and panic attacks minimal.
@@cread401 thank you for the info that is very helpful , sounds like you have a great dog that has been there for you. Best of luck to you in all you do

I would agree with everything you said about the Aussie. I have a mini black tri and he is just so happy about life and everything that comes with it. even when I get upset with him for doing something wrong, he will run up to me and do everything possible to make me smile and not be mad at him anymore. he loooooves going outside and learned to behave off leash within a week of me having him (he was age 14wks when I adopted him) and since then he has been attached at my hip, snd is super loyal to me. I've got to say one of the best breeds I've ever known, and I work in a vet and see many different dogs and how they behave.
(I know this is an old video and all, But still) Currently me and my family have been searching for a new large breed dog, we've had the same one for about 11 years, and due to that we've been looking for a puppy so that was she could train them on how to act since she's the only reason I'm allowed to be left alone at home. If we were only to have an Aussie, my small dog and my two cats, would it still be safe for me to be left at home alone? Would the Aussie still bark at people outside or around my house and would be able to attack someone if provoked?
My dog makes people happy and children always want to pet her. I’m thinking of training her up to become a service dog for the elderly. Aussie are the best.
Any info on Aussies I know they shed a lot I'm a crime family we go camping 17 times every summer and have a large back yard and I teach agitily so we're a good fit any other info
Australian Shepherds are gorgeous indeed. Unfortunately, many people get them because of their beauty without considering how much exercise and mental stimulation they need. It is sad how many Australian Shepherds end up in animal shelters.

Great first trick to teach your Aussie. Goes like this; Sit (wait two seconds), Shed (wait two seconds) Good dog!
Aussies don't shed as much as you think, since they have hair instead of fur. I have one. My lab sheds far, far more than my Aussie does.

+Eric Flint Ok thanks for the clarification. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Aussies just love life. They are beautiful, their muzzle is just right and they are so expressive. You know what they are thinking.
So sorry about your jack Russell 😢
I think your aussie likes to lay by the door, to protect the home. Their smiles are just perfection ❤
I've had an Australian Shepard he's 8 and I'm 11 so I was like three when we got him his name is hunter btw
Dreamlys my dog died a few weeks ago 😥
Weronika i Wiwianne awww😢 I'm so sorry
thx
I've had an Australian shepherd, border collie mix breed and I'd never ask for any other breed of dog. Sadly though he's only got about another year to live so I'm want to play less video games and more with him.
my doggie past away a few weeks ago :-(
Just brought my Australian Shepherd home two weeks ago at 8 weeks old.
How did her teenage phase go? I've heard they are really smart and learn well as puppies then forget it all as teenagers.
I'm a dog lover all my life, had in the past Cocker Spanields, Schnauzers, Dashhunds, German Shepherds, etc. Now I have a six month old Black Tri Aussie, Best dog I've ever had, just love it!!!
VERY Good! nice to see things working out....☺ happy days! Two pretty ladies with blue eyes and big smiles...Best wishes for continued success..
Thanks for the video. I have an aussie, your video describes them perfectly.
Great video...they are really a fun dog to be with.
+Greg M Agreed. I have a whole video on that topic.
@@gracenotes8045 for your own benefit take the dog on a walk yourself
@@guvj4fyufudrs2444 Nope. Not gonna do it. This dog is my roommate's responsibility. I have my own dog & I take care of him - she has to make the time to take care of hers. I didn't choose that breed, she did.
@@gracenotes8045 understandable. could you then report her? for the dogs sake
Do treats or her favorite squeaky toy help?
I find that treats usually work best. Sometimes she doesn't seem to hear (or just plain feigns it) her squeaky toys. But treats rule all! Enjoy your pup.... she may respond differently!
This is all so true! I own a Black try brown eyed male. And he is so weird and amazing and yeah! Whenever I look at him from below when he is looking down he looks like he has bat ears! And in a action shot! They are amazing!
Awee you love your Aussie so much it warms my heart !
Love this video. I totally agree. I have a mini Aussie who looks almost the same as your dog except he is a boy. SOO smart and handsome!
Miniature american. Now akc breed, not aussie.
There is no top 10, everything is awesome
Aussies are the best! They are such great fun and they are so loving!
If I ever have a farm, Lord willing, this is THE dog I'd get, no question!💕
My parents said we would get one, if it's smart it can do my homework!
Great Video thx i loved it everypart
What a beautiful puppy!
I’m getting an Aussie on may 1st! I’m so excited!
Love the top 10. Totally agree! Love my kids soooo much!
I have a miniyorkshire and she's also very smart one 🙂❤️
you music is great. Brandenburg...love it.
That’s so cool I am going to get a Aussie and I have been wanting to name mine aspen for the longest time! It’s truly a awesome name.
I wish my work ethic was as good as an aussies 😂
I have a red merle male aussie pup. And his name is Copper I love him so much! He has a green eye and a blue eye!
I have a 3 month old blue merle miniature. love him
I see the thumbnail has the famous Aussie stare.
I absolutely adore my toy black Tri female. I swear she reads my mind! She knows what I'm thinking before I do...
I love that aussies come in so many variations like their personality. You can get small, medium, and large. You can get a long or bobbed tail. You can get brown, blue or a mixed eyes. Colors come in so many I can't name them all. XD
My aussi mix has so much energy and is driven to complete every thing!😊
So far, My Aussie is a little devil as expected since he's a puppy, but the small things he does like sleeping on his back it's adorable
Will get one of this breed soon hopefully! I love them!!!
Not to be annoying but even though there r so many good things about Aussies make sure u have the time and environment for them
+emmasmom0206, Absolutely right. Thats why very active dogs like this so often end up in shelters
Study for months they shed a lot and needs to have a active family not a couch tater
My Pepper smiled all the time. Yes they DO smile. Its a dogs kind of smile, but none the less, they do smile.
IM ABOUT TO GET AN AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD PUPPYYYY!!!! I'm soooooo exited
Can, in your opinion, an Aussie handle my 9 hr shifts of downtime either alone or with another sitter (sole sitter w/o other animals)
lucius1013 I don't think an Australian shepherd is right for you. They need a lot of attention during the day.
lucius1013 I honestly think that's a lot of alone time for an Aussie. I know mine would just be distraught and anxious being alone that much. They are very very much people dogs.
lucius1013
I say yes. Mine sleeps a lot
in the day, and I'm home
24/7. He wakes me up at
5 am, and is able to adjust
& assimilate very well. If
you're moving around being
so active, imo, he'd LOVE it.
He'd just sleep when you leave
for work then be ready to go
to work again. It would be
better to leave him with a
sitter of course, but mine
is fine if I have to leave. Just
leave him plenty of toys, and
I leave the tv on a calm music
channel or cartoons & maybe a talk radio
station in another room. I am
not going to judge, but I hope
you're able to #adoptnotshop? 😉
I suggest a German Shepard or Siberian Husky for you not an Austrailan shepard
Pets For days I don’t understand why you keep suggesting getting one of these other extremely high energy working dogs? What’s the difference? They are all highly intelligent dogs that all need a high amount of exercise and stimulation.
I've been enjoying your videos about the Aussie Shepherd and got basically convinced to get one. You mentioned in your 10-best-things video that you have been to Brazil. I am an American living in Brazil... would you have some indications/recommendations about where (who) to get one in Brazil? Kindly let me know the contacts information. Tks!
I also have an Australian shepherd and I love it, they are the most intelligent dogs
Thank you for this video!!
Love your videos.. you are very beautiful... my 2 Aussies are my" shadows" agreed with everything you said😉
I am getting a Aussie on my birthday this may and I am so excited
This is a great vid. I have a miniature austalian shepherd and he is going 3yr old on june. And he is my gem. Not just because he is funny very smart and gorgeous. But me and him are like B1 and B2 he goes wherever i am in the house even in the shower. He wouldnt get up until im up and he goes to bed when i say goodnight. And most of all he can sense when im upset at my husband because he will never great him when he comes home from work like my dog usually do and will just stare at my husband and walk towards me then pretty much just ignore my husband and would prefer to hang out with me.
Loved this, thank you :D
I currently have my sister Australian Shepherd. And I am a couch potato. Wouldn’t seem like a good match. But my Aussies Have been couch potatoes with me but if I stand up they are ready to rock ‘n’ roll.
I was thinking about getting one do they ever just sit and relax and cuddle on the couch? Thanks
Best of luck to you in all you do
Aw my aussies name is Aspen too. She's adorable
I am adopting an Australian Shepherd, Kelpie, Chow mix... my last dog was a Queensland Blue Heeler, GSD, Chow mix, best dog I ever had.
I just got an Australian shepherd/Lab mix. I love him to death.
In the FB Aussie group I’m a member of, there seems to be a consensus of sorts that Black Tris have a lot of similar character traits to each other: slightly less crazy, more loving, more protective.etc. Do you find that?
Hi Blondie.
How much Cota a Australiano Shepper (a little Puppy) un USA?
Does he has a hight I.Q.?

i have a red tri female we have the same birthday aug 9th..i got another one this past weekend..he is a blue merle...great dogs..
My tricolour Wing Commander Fly is a big silly excitable ball of happy friendly furry energy
Aspen is so cute!!
She's beautiful❤
black tri is my fav! your aussie is beautiful
+bbowlz Thanks :)
Just picked up a 10wk old aussie about a week ago. best decision ever
I have an Aussie and I’m trying to teach her to put her toys away all I can say is that she is a really silly dog. (P.s.) your dog is REALLY CUTE.
I’m wondering if you can keep an Aussie outside, but not in a dog house probably 4x bigger than a dog house with heat and I have a big yard
i got a mini australian sheperd last week it is so cute
My aussi is supper chill and always just wanting to be by my side.
I love Australian Shepard I have an 11 year old and a 10 month 1. I love aspen
I love my Aussie!!!
Steohanie C They're such great dogs!
My Aussie is 8 yrs old, very active she is very smart requires lots of attention.
(I know this is an old video and all, But still)
Currently me and my family have been searching for a new large breed dog, we've had the same one for about 11 years, and due to that we've been looking for a puppy so that was she could train them on how to act since she's the only reason I'm allowed to be left alone at home.
If we were only to have an Aussie, my small dog and my two cats, would it still be safe for me to be left at home alone? Would the Aussie still bark at people outside or around my house and would be able to attack someone if provoked?
My Aussies can open up the back door to get out & get back in. Super smart.
I have a red Merle they Are sOOO SWEET 💛
exactly why I have two 💖💖💖
Australian Shepherds are gorgeous indeed. Unfortunately, many people get them because of their beauty without considering how much exercise and mental stimulation they need. It is sad how many Australian Shepherds end up in animal shelters.
+Three Dogs I completely agree with you.
