A Ford dealer here in San Diego called me and offered a killer deal on a 2022 Badlands if I traded in my 2021 Sport base model. My 21 Sport was paid off so they offered me 30K for my 21 and gave me the 22 Badlands for 38K. The Badlands is so far and away better than the base model. I love it!

Bronco has ALL available options (Premium, Moonroof, Tow, 360 Assist+, Tinted Side Front windows, Rubber Mats, Cargo Mat, etc.) and very much enjoy my ride! Great review! Ordered my Bronco Sport Badlands in early January and just got the email that they will be building it next week. Can't wait! I have the 2008 Escape, and I couldn't bring myself to order the new Escape. The new body style looks like every other car on the road now. I really like the design of this Bronco. I did not end up ordering the co-pilot 360+ package. I've driven rentals with similar systems and found it more distracting than helpful. You mentioned that the factory installed tow package also includes the full size spare. In fact, the Badlands comes with the full size spare whether you order the tow package or not. The Outer Banks and Big Bend have the mini spare as standard equipment (that gets upgraded to full size spare when you order the tow package).
Thanks Scott! Great that your build cycle is pretty quick! The look of that older Escape compared to the newer one is exactly why I'm glad that Ford introduced the Bronco Sport - people loved the boxy look at separate glass Appreciate you pointing out that correction on the spare! Bang on with the OB and BB spare, thanks!
@@byrde4329 I have not been offered a specific build date. Only that it was going to be started next week. There is still the possibility of electronics shortages that could hold it up further I'd imagine.
I have a 2021 Badlands. The only complaint I have is the towing capacity. I know you give up some for the off road suspension but it would have been nice if they could have gotten to 3500#. You can’t tow much with 2200# capacity. Otherwise it’s almost perfect. I’ve taken it in trails that it should definitely not make it through but it impresses me everytime.
Agree with you on the towing capacity! The Escape 3,500 max vs the 2,200 lbs is a bit disappointing. Awesome you're enjoying it otherwise! I've seen so many great videos of people taking theirs off-road
Steve! Holy crap I was looking for the correct video and this popped up in my feed. Your 2021 video of a lesser trim on this SUV went into SO many detailed options I had to buy it. It arrives in a few weeks. Catching this video of the BSBL which is the exact model I ordered is icing on the cake. THANK YOU! Your in-depth video in 2021 literally helped me decide to buy this, this video just makes the choice icing on the cake!!!
What timing! And wow.. glad the video helped you make that choice! Good to hear that you went with the Badlands as well .. are you planning on taking it on some trails?
@@CarsWithSteve Definitely, were almost neighbors. I live in Minnesota and frequently travel to the BWCA and into Canada for fishing trips near Thunder Bay/Lake Superior. I love the capability of the BSBL without it breaking the bank. Also I have to say to anyone on the fence, definitely add the moon roof, its a game changer.
@@honhonson9601 Not too far off at all! I just had someone comment that they're from Chicago and I should check out their Black Label Aviator if I'm out that way! It's beautiful up that way but it's been a few years. Good to know that you love the moonroof as well
Maverick Lariat Tremor starts at $35K. Bronco Sport Badlands starts at $40k. Same platform. Same engine. Same rear dual clutch locker. If you add the Luxury/Premium to them with copilot 360 they are at $38,425 for the Maverick and $44,125 for the Bronco Sport. In my opinion the Bronco Sport only beats the Maverick if you actually will be doing some serious off road otherwise the Maverick seems to be a far better value with a $5-6K savings (if you don't get hit with dealer markups due to availability.). You can save even more with the Maverick if you go with the XLT and FX4 / 4k tow. Where the Bronco Sport doesn't allow you to choose a cheaper package and still get the 2.0 engine.
Good points on the off-road compare between the 2 of them. Style preference would play a part for sure but these are two good ones to compare to one another. Think you'd go for the Maverick Tremor over the Badlands?
Well done Steve! I had to laugh when the vid started - this Bronco Sport is specced almost exactly the way I want ours to be - so it was great to see the full walkthrough. I was especially glad to see it had those rims - I’ve been wanting to see video footage of how they look outdoors. Your vid also convinced me to stick with the Cyber Orange rather than the Bronze Metallic. I’m hoping to place our order this week! Cheers!
I'm considering getting a Bronco Sport (because some drunk girl wrecked my car in the middle of the night). I very much appreciate your detailed accounting of features. I'm agonizing because there are features I want but many I don't care about. I wish features weren't packaged. But anyway, I like the concise details of your video.
Oy.. that's never a fun reason to have to replace a car. I had that happen to one of my first cars just after I had paid it off 😏 Glad the video helped! Curious.. what are some features that are on your must have list?
@@CarsWithSteve Omg...that is really awful! I'm really a Jeep person but outside of a Wrangler which is too big for me, Jeep offers no 4WD that doesn't look like a bubble car. I'm struggling with "crossover"...😣. I want utility, boxy, 4WD. Don't care about leather/heated seats/steering wheel, moon roof, luxury stuff. I want cargo space, cloth seats, adjustable height (I'm short), larger engine. Safety features are good. My brain hurts from trying to figure out a build I can afford. My Jeep has been at the collision place over 2 months. I love my Jeep but fear it's no longer trustworthy.
@@suzannehedderly1331 The Badlands Bronco Sport would check most of those boxes - especially if you want a more powerful engine. The Outer Banks has a 1.5L turbo vs the 2.0L turbo in the Badlands trim If you're a fan of Jeep the Grand Cherokee just got a redesign for the 2022 model year - quite a bit bigger than the Bronco Sport but if you need to space it would be a good option
@@CarsWithSteve Not a fan of the Grand Cherokee. Looks like a car, not a utility vehicle. UNLESS they are redesigning it back to its CJ roots. The Badlands would be my choice but it's got a big price tag. Outer Banks too lux. Just found out yesterday my Jeep is ready...so at least I'll have that back while I decide what to do. I'm so worried they missed some damage. Is my Jeep trustworthy?? I don't know... 😕 Thank you for your input!!
@@suzannehedderly1331 Could always look at a Land Rover Defender 😉 .. bigger price tag but functional and boxy with great off-road performance Hopefully your dealer found everything during the fix and if they didn't just call them on it! Good luck with the car shopping!
I just got my Big Bend with this exact colour and it looks great and fun to drive. I have not had a chance to drive it in the snow yet but up here in Quebec it is a matter of weeks, should be fun. Funny thing a lot of people let me pass first in an intersection probably because they are curious, this never happened in my Escape.
Glad you're enjoying yours! Haha good to know that it's still turning heads too. People really seem to be enjoying the Bronco and Bronco Sport. How are you liking it compared to the old Escape?
@@CarsWithSteve I like my Escape PHEV at first but then an alarm system kept going off, the car would start on its own and finally it started running on the gas engine in the garage. It could have killed us so after 7 trips to the dealership I was releived to get rid of it. So yes I love the Bronco a lot more than the Escape except for the electric engine I could use for some distance

Great review! You touched on everything that is right with the 2022 model. I leased a 2022 Outer Banks and absolutely love it! Coming off of a 2014 Wrangler, other than the off road capability the Bronco Sport does everything else better, especially the plethora of driving assist options, safety features and creature comforts.
Thanks so much Jason! From a Wrangler to the Bronco Sport too - great to hear that you're loving it! How are you finding the difference in size between them?
@@CarsWithSteve I used to love the ridiculously short turn radius on the 2 door Wrangler and the height. But after a few weeks I have gotten comfortable with the Broncp Sport.
This is such a great review! The only thing I hate about it is that if you want the moon roof you have to have the brown interior. I wish the black and blue interior was available. It’s only available without the moonroof. I just don’t get it. Anyway, I’m ordering my Badlands later today because of this review. Thank you so Much!!
Thanks so much, hah glad the video helped you decide on yours! What color do you think you're going for? It would be nice for some different options but you could always look at aftermarket katzkin seat covers! carswithsteve.com/katzkin
@@CarsWithSteve thank you!!! Such a great idea!! I ordered the badlands alto blue. I love the seat cover idea to cover the brown. Thank you so much for the suggestion!
I ended up canceling the order because I couldn’t live with the brown. I loved the black and blue seats it offered. So I went with those. I’m going to get an aftermarket moonroof. I’m just trying to look for a place I can trust. Someone told me to just go to where Ford sends their cars for repairs and that should be fine. I’m excited!
That.. is a great question. I always think the same thing whenever I'm in a car with a wireless charge pad that needs to be plugged in for CarPlay or Android Auto. The Escape got an upgrade for the 2023 model year to Sync4. The Bronco Sport and Maverick are based on the same C6 platform which means we'll probably see that upgrade in the next year or two (2024 or 2025 model)

Appreciate that! Good to know people like the little details like that. I like the idea of more info on the paddle shifters - will keep that in mind for the next video on the Bronco SPort
I like your video Steve. Is there an option for memory seats? I believe, (for my circumstances) that would be a very useful option. The last time I had the option was on my 1998 Lexus 300 that I shared with my wife.
Very well done video. Mat I ask in tn your opinion what are the real world mpgs for the Badlands with the 2.0 and the Poter BAnks with the 1.5 presuming you are not heavy on the gas?
Thank you! If you aren’t heavy on the gas you’ll get pretty close to EPA ratings (what you find on the sticker). Conservative drivers usually have better mileage than stated mpg as well
@@johnshottie4415 Thanks. Good to hear you obtain those mogs on regular gas. I presume it varies by vehicles but I wonder how much difference in mogs premium fuel provides. Enjoy
@@albertlevet119 I usually only use premium when towing my trailer but that provides 2mpg more. I do tow towards the upper limit of the Bronco Sports capacity and I get 15mpg on reg and 17-18 with 91 octane premium.
@@johnshottie4415 Thanks. So in regular driving premium fuel would likely deliver 2 to 3 miles better mpgs. I see more and more Bronco Sports on the streets.
Hello fellow badland owners! Does anyone have feedback about the towing capabilities at heavy weights? We have a boat right at 2k pounds, and would have to have a tow hitch installed.. I hope it does well, looking for feedback! TIA
I cover off towing around the 20:00 mark of the video. If you have the Badlands it can tow up to 2,200 lbs... Assuming the boat and trailer are 2,000 lbs combined.. you're cutting it close but it should be ok to tow
@@CarsWithSteve not so much off roading but mostly would use it as a mini suv as I have a large family. I live in Massachusetts and love driving in the snow so will take it out a bit to do some snow driving. I also have the need to do some light towing with a trailer.
Good call on the upgrade if it's a family traveller. I like the boxier style of the Bronco Sport vs the Escape. Have you pulled the trigger or still thinking if it's the right fit?
Have a hold/deposit on a Badland's that was special ordered (buyer backed out), blue, that is fully loaded at $39k (but they want another $2k market adjustment that I refuse to pay). tks for the review. Still a little on the fence about trading in our 2019 Highlander....
If you have a signed bill of sale the dealer should not be able to have you pay more for it. Check state laws in your area but the sales contract should have price protection
No, they have the "price adjustment" as a 2nd window sticker item and I thought I could negotiate it off or get something for it. But, nope. So I cancelled. Even though it is cheaper than two others, within 100 miles, equipped the same. Kinda sad but I'm too old to start paying over MSRP now! thank you.
@@larryhudson3930 Window sticker and agreed upon price are 2 different things. Sucks that the dealer was trying to strong arm you. I'd look for a high volume dealer in your area, there's always one who will be willing to give you a deal
Would have to play around with that one next time I'm in a Bronco Sport. The Owner's manual says "connect your device to a USB port" so in theory any port should work but usually it's just the ports above the shifter dial that would work for data transfer

If you're taking it off road it is. Front camera, bash plates, different GOAT modes... Having said that if you're just after a car to get from A to B I'd probably recommend just the base trim
Great video! However, there is no such thing as "very unique." Unique means one of a kind--you can't be very one of a kind. Just like you can't be slightly pregnant.
Have to disagree with you on the word usage there. Sure, the word unique is an absolute adjective and using the intensifier "very" is strange but it's also common language. Very unique is commonly used to mean highly unusual and there's technically no strict grammatical rule about modifying adjectives.
Cheers!
Thank you! It's funny how that works! Think you'll end up going for those darker rims in your build?
Yes - when I first saw them I didn’t like them, but they’ve definitely grown on me. They’re different, so why not lol?
@@jtvandal2259 Good point and that's why I'm a fan of the Cyber Orange. It jumps out from everything out on the road!
I had that happen to one of my first cars just after I had paid it off 😏
Glad the video helped! Curious.. what are some features that are on your must have list?
The Outer Banks has a 1.5L turbo vs the 2.0L turbo in the Badlands trim
If you're a fan of Jeep the Grand Cherokee just got a redesign for the 2022 model year - quite a bit bigger than the Bronco Sport but if you need to space it would be a good option
@@suzannehedderly1331 Could always look at a Land Rover Defender 😉 .. bigger price tag but functional and boxy with great off-road performance
Hopefully your dealer found everything during the fix and if they didn't just call them on it!
@@michelmorin4845 Wow that's crazy! Can't say I've heard anyone mention their Escape randomly starting on them. I'm hoping Ford announces a hybrid Bronco Sport in the next few years.. The Maverick and Escape on the same platform are available but who knows hah
Nice job. Didn’t realize they added usb slots to the rear for the ‘22. Was inside the console for ‘21.
Thanks Erik! The USB slots were added in to 2021 Bronco Sport models built after May 10 2021 - part of the fun chip/part constraints that have hit manufacturers the since 2020
wife and I just bought a 22 big bend bronco we love our i did notice that our has low range compared to the badlands very very happy with it it's got the 1.5 liter eco
Great to hear you're loving the ride Barrett! The 1.5 is still pretty peppy. Curious.. what car did you have before the move to the Bronco Sport?

I wish you or someone would show the undercarriage more in-depth on the Badlands sport and say if the bashplates protect the catalytic converter. all-in-all good overview.
I'll see what I can do about getting a video like that shot!
Thank you for your review! I’m soo excited to put my order in for a new bronco sport badlands model! I hope by end of summer or early fall to finally get my hands on one!
You're welcome Shawna! Exciting you're going for the Badlands, are you planning on doing some offroad or trail driving with it?
@@Jcruzer70 Ah the small things! Good that you're enjoying the ride
If you want to bypass the auto start stop permanently, there is a two wire connector on the battery terminal you can unplug.
The one thing I don't want to point out in my videos ;) in case people do it themselves and find out their powertrain warranty is void
Wow Steve what a review! Thank you!!
You're welcome, appreciate that!
My BSBB with better tires has been amazing! They are far more capable than most people realize!
Good to hear! Has yours gone through a winter already or is this going to be the first one?
@@witchypoo13 You're welcome! That Alto blue looks great, the blue katzkin seats would probably look great!
@@witchypoo13 oh an aftermarket moonroof install would be kind of neat. Curious what it looks like when you have it finished up!
Interesting how the heck was the car being filmed on the inside while he was driving? How was he able to control the camera like that?
I'd love to say magic but the test drive was recorded on a 360 camera that lets me play with aspect ratios, camera direction etc during editing!
Great video Steve, I am sold.
Thanks Donnie! Think you’d go for the Badlands as well?
Whats the point of wireless charging if i have to plug my phone in to use apple play anyways? I dont understand why wireless car play isn't included.
That.. is a great question.
Greatly informative review! thanks for calling out some real nuggets like metal bash plates and the full size spare wheel. would've loved to see more of the paddle shifters
Appreciate that! Good to know people like the little details like that. I like the idea of more info on the paddle shifters - will keep that in mind for the next video on the Bronco SPort
Excellent review!!!
Thank you!
I like your video Steve. Is there an option for memory seats? I believe, (for my circumstances) that would be a very useful option. The last time I had the option was on my 1998 Lexus 300 that I shared with my wife.
Thanks Thomas! No option for seat memory in the Bronco Sport. You'd find it in the higher trims of the Escape and Edge though
Conservative drivers usually have better mileage than stated mpg as well
I have a 2021 Badlands and I avg 26.5 on regular gas. Just drove a 400mi trip and got 29avg with 75mph most the way.
I would recommend putting something in your hands to keep them occupied, very distracting. Good review.

Hello is there lumbar support? Thanks
Yes there is, covered off when I touch on the driver's door and 1st row impressions. The toggle is just to the left side of the driver's seat!
Bought one... It sucks the tow on it is so low at 2200 pounds. I'd like to tow a boat. Maybe I'll do it anyway.
That's one thing I wish was improved in the Bronco Sport. How much does the boat/trailer weigh?
Hello! Wondering have you towed with this vehicle? How'd it do?
Do you think a Viair style Air Compressor will fit under that seat?
Depends on the model.. a thin one laid sideways might but there are some compressors from Mastercraft that would fit no problem
Did you get the toe numbers and trim levels mixed? Does the badlands really tow less than the lower trims
Nope.. stated that the Badlands tows 2,200 lbs while the other trims are 2,000 lbs with the factory tow option
@@CarsWithSteve Roger. I hadn't had my coffee and think I got them mixed up 🤔
All good! Haha I’ve mixed numbers up before so I had to watch it
Does it have memory seats in the premium package?
In the 2022 no.. but it does now in the 2023 model!
Great review I have been thinking of trading my Audi S4 for one of these.
Thanks David! You'll lose a bit of power but won't need to worry about using 91 octane anymore. Thinking about getting into off-roading?
@@CarsWithSteve not so much off roading but mostly would use it as a mini suv as I have a large family. I live in Massachusetts and love driving in the snow so will take it out a bit to do some snow driving. I also have the need to do some light towing with a trailer.
Good call on the upgrade if it's a family traveller. I like the boxier style of the Bronco Sport vs the Escape. Have you pulled the trigger or still thinking if it's the right fit?
Do the outer banks model
Waiting for a local dealer to have one but it's on the list!
Awsome truck
It really is, everyone I know with one seems to love it
Have a hold/deposit on a Badland's that was special ordered (buyer backed out), blue, that is fully loaded at $39k (but they want another $2k market adjustment that I refuse to pay). tks for the review.

@@larryhudson3930 glad they didn't put up a fight about that!
Question:
do the power ports in the centre console allow you to use SYNC?
Would have to play around with that one next time I'm in a Bronco Sport. The Owner's manual says "connect your device to a USB port" so in theory any port should work but usually it's just the ports above the shifter dial that would work for data transfer
Yes.

Yes you can! The base has 1 option, Big Bend/Outer Banks have 2 and the Badlands has 3
The most expensive trim is the best? No way!
If you're taking it off road it is. Front camera, bash plates, different GOAT modes...
Having said that if you're just after a car to get from A to B I'd probably recommend just the base trim
The base is great off-road. I use mine daily for work on grading sites and fire roads. Read the forums for more information
Plus.. if this was an academic or scholarly publication I'd probably be more formal but the video is informal in nature
Glad you enjoyed the video otherwise 😉
