Great vid mate! Love that you're still learning and going through the struggles that many of us would(finding parts, putting things together and figuring out what's wrong with stuff)! Awesome.
Thanks man! I was looking on the official precious plastic website for the amount of torque and rpms i need. You can find details to every machine and version on the page. That's how i knew which gearbox to get with the coupling. and when you know the torque of your gearbox, you can find the right coupling for it. I got the coupling from maedler. Just send them an email and they can help you out. The exact coupling i got from them was: 2x 60520502 - Kupplungsnabe RNT Größe 48 Ausführung AS für Taper-Spannbuchse 1615 1x 60509848 - Zahnkranz standard 98 Shore A rot Baugröße 48 Außendurchmesser 105mm 2x Taper-Spannbuchse 1615 Bohrung 40mm (Die Bohrung muss natürlich zu deiner Welle passen) LG :)
around 1500 i think. but i bought a brand new motor. Right now i'm working on a new machine with more power. The bigger 4kw motor only cost 35€. the shredder kit already assembled was like 300 from the precious plastic bazar and the coupling 150.
Hey sorry for the late reply, you can see it in the video. I stopped the timelapse to show exactly where I put how many extra spacers. You might have to watch it in slower speed but you should be able to see it.
That was really interesting! Thanks for it! Please be careful not only with your fingers, but also with your long hair when you're close to the shredder. At 10:27 I became a little bit nervous. ;) Hope to build an own shredder soon. Where did you get your motor from? It seems to be very quiet. Is it sufficient even for thicker parts?
Hey thank you so much ! Yes i know, that was close. I wouldn't dare to go anywhere near this thing :) I will build in some security upgrades soon. Thanks for mentioning though. I bought the motor from a local electric motor shop with the gearbox included. I couldn't find many secondhand and i got some good advice on what would fit my needs. It's not super quiet but the most noise is coming from the crushing of the plastic anyways. It's a 2.2kw motor and it so far it's been crushing everything. It only struggled when feeding in too much plastic so that it had many layers of plastic to chew at once, if that makes sense. Might post an update video on how it performs if you're keen :)
Hätte mir so viele Probleme erspart. Aber egal. Wenn du ein kleines Budget hast, dann schreib mir nochmal, vielleicht finden wir ne Lösung. Ich brauche nämlich diese Elektrobox nicht mehr.
On another note: I wonder if you might provide details of the motor and gearbox you used for your shredder. Might save me some time making something else that won't do the job.
Sorry for the late reply! The motor and gearbox is alright for a shredder but not strong enough for extrusion. If i remember correctly this is what i got: The motor I'm using has 2.2kW, 230V and around 75rpm output speed, 35:1 might be the gear box but not sure about that.
Could you please tell me how much tour per minute do the axis of your shreeder? the axis is the hexagonal barbell that rings and blades are fixed to it.
I don't really know. But you can look up all the specs on the precious plastic homepage. They have the blueprints for all the machines and what torque is needed.
What do you mean by hardbox? The shredder blades, shaft and the box, is that what you mean? I had to re-assemble it so often because you have to make it run smooth. You don't want any gaps and if it's too tight, it won't turn easy anymore.

Not easy! ... Tell me about it. I am on my third build. The first one used a 24VDC wheelchair motor with 120:1 reduction gearing. Bent the chassis and stalled the motor. The second one used the same chassis but strengthened and a bigger DC motor with a 180:1 reduction worm drive / geared arrangement. It drew about 60 to 80 amps under load and usually stalled. For the third one I plan to modify a 220VAC cable winch with an extra external 3:1 reduction. We'll see what that does. You're dead right. The mechanical arrangements are a bloody site harder to make work than it looks on the Precious Plastic site.
@@ARTVENTUREFILMS Well, I got her built and it works. I used a 1.5KW 240VAC motor driving a 20/1 worm drive gearbox all mounted on an old Rover Chip and Shred frame. I put a reversing switch on the motor and it works pretty well as long as you don't try and jam the chute full of milk bottles. Working on the melting arrangements now. Using a C Rex 100 PID driving five heater cuffs around a bit of water pipe. Melted HDPE will then be squeezed into a 150 mil long, 75 mil ID hydraulic pipe with a polished bore. Technically it should work but it probably won't on the first try. But if it don't, I'll try something else.
