I interviewed for a visas and immigration role within the civil service a few months back and didn’t get the job because one of the questions were something along the lines of ‘tell us about a time when you demonstrated leadership’ and I mentioned that I didn’t have the experience but I’m willing to learn and I am a quick learner. I did also mention that I’ve trained colleagues in the past and one time I trained a lad who was autistic and dint understand what I was telling him so I adapted my training and even printed off check lists for him but somehow I never got the job. I have an interview today for a similar role too and feel so unprepared

Thank you so much for all these videos. I had my online interview yesterday with the Civil Service for an EO role and I could not be more disappointed. There were about 10 questions to answer but the responses had to be recorded and uploaded so I wasn't even speaking TO someone. I had prepared lots of questions using your videos which I found really helpful for thinking on my feet BUT the actual questions I was given each corresponded to a different Behavious (there were 4 in total) but they questions had sub questions below and I found it really hard to answer the main question and sub-questions with only 30 seconds prep time and in the 3 minutes or so I was given for each. The Strength (that apparently you can't give a wrong answer for) were far more enjoyable. Anyways, I really don't know what to make of the recruitment process, I really wish I could have spoken to an actual human being, especially for this type of position. Who knows, maybe I did well, but I doubt it! Thanks anyway for the videos!
@@drbatra1513 Hi, I was asked whether I could cope with multi-tasking, if I enjoyed working as a team- and with other teams and how we organised the work, if I had had to ask for other people's input while working as a team. But all the questions came with sub-questions as I said before and I found it really challenging to answer 4 questions at the same time! Also some strength questions like, if I thought individualism was important in the workplace etc, the others I can't remember and I think I was also asked to not disclose the type of questions in the interview, so just in case don't want to share too much! good luck, I still have 4 weeks and 3 days to potentially wait for the final decision of the recruiting jury...!

The whole CS interview system is broken. The fact that there is such a huge amount of skill or lack thereof that someone can have related to the interview itself just goes to show this. I'm in the civil service and it's basically set up to recruit people are are great at interviews and have the time to study 5 brain-numbing documents about strengths, compentancies, behaviours or whatever the latest buzz word of choice happens to be. Luckily, some of these people are also good at the jobs in question but not all. The interview should be designed to be easy for the right person for the job and nigh on impossible for someone who is unfit for the role. Simple as that. That being said, I can't imagine the CS changing this system (or anything else) any time soon so this is still a very helpful video.

@@CareerVidz Thank you !
@@agirl2094 Hi, what questions were you asked?
I would like to say thank you for your helpful tips on passing a civil service interview, I have just started my new job in the CS, thanks again 😊
You're most welcome! I wish you all the best in your career!

Really good initial interview technique. Pity I didnt see this before, as I had an on line interview recently and unfortunately and didnt get the position. I was told it was a very good application. But the interview was poor. Looking at your interview technique showed me I was completely wrong in my approach. very well presented interview Sir!
THANK YOU!

Sorry to hear that
@@CareerVidz No worries! I thought the videos were ACE and I think the prep will come in handy at some point of my search for work (I hope!)
Hey, i have an interview for similar job in 4 days. Can you please tell me the kind of questions you were asked?
@@sophieh4925 oh thank you so much. I 'm really worried about the subquestions cos i tried to find online as well but not much info. Anyways, good luck for your result👍

I have officially given up with ever getting a position at the civil service. I have applied and interviewed in numerous occassions but have always got "The panel have carefully considered your performance on the day and unfortunately, on this occasion, you were unsuccessful and we will not be proceeding with your application" followed by blanket feedbacks that about my responses to the behaviour and tectnical questions. There is no point of me continuing applying for these positions and continue to get the same outcomes.

How can you over study ?
@@missyR9 repeatedly revising, not taking enough rest, 3 days just kept going over the interview questions. As soon as interview started mind went blank. Even the word proactive just vanished for that moment from my head. I studied and studied, stopped focusing on basic things and having breaks in between. Poor sleep. Nerves took over me yes it was the worst moment that interview. However the interview I had a few days ago for a similar job, no revising nothing and all that previous studying came back to me and was an excellent interview

Thanks for your insight 👍

How long do you aim for your answers to be? They say 5-7 mins but I see you’ve whizzed through most of em in half that time
2 minutes is a good time :)
For the competency example they say approx 5 minutes to talk about - then the strength based question after about 2 minutes.
