"Like most teenagers, he thinks he's a misunderstood genius".😂😂😂
that was me when I was a teenager.
@@Christian988. That was EVERY teenager, you are ain't that special, still not getting it???
Lmao and "the world revolves around his choices".
Forgot to mention one of the greatest lines of all time: "Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!"
Damn I thought you'd go with the cliche "Why are you wearing that rabbit suit? Why are you wearing that man suit?"
*my day is never complete until i can say that phrase at least once to a coworker or some random stranger*
best sibling interaction ever put in a scripted movie... because its real.
John and Joan Cusack have entered the chat.
@@cerrida82 Apparently the person above never saw Grosse Pointe Blank.
But they didn't play siblings in that movie though, Joan's character was just an employee of John's.
that dinner table scene is amazing
I always thought it was about a kid stuck in a time loop who finally breaks out by letting the jet engine kill him.
Yeah, that's what I always got out of it too, but I guess you've got to give people credit for being imaginative.
I mean, you're not wrong... There's just multiple layers to the plot that explain it in different words. It's more of a "yes and" because you're right and it's also about the PU and TU!
Not a time loop, is a tangent universe.
@@rafaelsantosx but this tangent universe reset itself at each 26 days (or something) in a time loop
He was never in a loop, though. Just a tangent. Which made me question WHY the jet engine had to kill him.
His role in the tangent universe was to direct the jet engine from THAT reality back to the prime reality, so the effect would have a cause, and thus prevent a universe-ending paradox. He didn't need to be in his room when it hit, though.
"bugs bunny on ketamine" is such a great phrase
"If you're a film nerd of a certain age or a furry with a dark side"
What do you mean "or"?
👀
"and"
he also implies furries MIGHT not already BE the dark side

Hahaha I was a 14 year old emo (04) when I first saw this movie.
It’s still my favorite movie
Eh i don't see it
Yep while listening to At The Drive in 😂
My interpretation was always that Donnie realized HE was the one screwing up the world with his superpowers, and he had to engineer his own death to remove himself from the timeline for the good of the world.
It seemed deep when I was in college, man...
So like Jonas from Dark
close... he goes back in time to save the girl he loves by removing his self from the timeline and making sure they never met.
@@lost-inthoughtgregg6580 like butterfly effect
@@lost-inthoughtgregg6580 close. He's actually in bed having a fantasy dream about this girl he saw at school, at the same moment the engine is landing on him
The movie was kinda Dark. Really sucked that at the point where his life was finally beginning to go somewhere, he had no choice but to engineer his death in order to save the world. And for those thinking it was just a dream, the ending of the movie proved it wasn't.
Best throw-away lines from the whole film: "'My mom said they closed the school because it's flooded with feces.' 'What are feces?' 'Baby mice.' 'Aw!' "
For a moment tho I doubted my knowledge myself lmao😂😂
I audibly laugh *every* time I rewatch that scene
"Because October 2001 was a bad time to release a plane crash movie"
I'm pretty sure this a mid 90's flick... or I am in the wrong timeline.
@@jonathanbaker4361 You're in the wrong timeline, it came out in 2001. It was set in 1988 though.
@@giantWario I IMDBed it. Seems you are right. It's so weird, I could swear I watched it in high school at a buddy's house.
Now I can remember the context in witch i watched it. So weird.
@@giantWario to make it worse I see Jarhead came out in 2005 and I could have sworn I saw it on the mess deck when I was in the USN. I got our before 2005... this is disturbing.
I first saw this movie without any idea of what kind of movie it would be ( no trailer watched or even a short read) the experience was great.
It's still be far one of the best movies I've ever watched.
Me too! I thought it was gong to be some kind of mafia movie, because the title reminded me of Donnie Brasco :D (another movie I love, btw)
One of those few pros of the pandemic is that we get stuff like this instead of roasting whatever the latest blockbuster is.
Well I mean it's not like anything really changed. We're still getting one Honest Trailer per week just like before. I'm more surprised that it's literally the only content from this channel right now.
@@kamali2593 Not to worry, because they'll probably be doing Tenet next week.

I DO love Donnie Darko. Will always remember my first time watching it being enchanced by a broken, randomly skipping DVD. Peak eerie.
The word "cellar" will forever stand out after this movie. Not even solely in relation to a door.
Please say: “I am starting to doubt your commitment to sparkle motion”

I have said that phrase for nearly twenty years!
I randomly say that for NO DAMN REASON 😂
And when the Nostalgia Critic found how much it's been memed over the years in his Donnie Darko review, he said "My apologies, Internet, I should never have doubted you."
lmao
We need an honest trailer for "American Beauty"
That would be... something. Jinkies.

The bit about watching the director's cut and pausing when the excerpts of Grandma Death's book appear on screen is so true. But the Southland Tales thing is even more accurate. I’m man enough to admit I’ve read this comment too many times and it’s lost on me :(
@@anonymous01792
It's a line from Donnie Darko.
Anyone know where this claim originally came from, is the movie referencing some famous quote...? Also, why is it supposed to be so beautiful.....? Sounds like a pretty ordinary phrase to me, but maybe it’s an accent thing. In an English accent it sounds like “Cell-uh daw” which is pretty dull, but maybe the strongly pronounced R’s at the end of each word when it’s said with an American accent make it sounds warmer...? 🤔
@@LoganBluth Tolken
Just goes to show it’s been years since I’ve seen this movie, I didn’t remember that quote
"Southland Tales" was actually a great follow-up. It was bizarre, probably even more confusing than "Donnie Darko", definitely larger in scope and very entertaining. Yeah, and it made sense when you read the comics prequel:)
I'm very sad for Richard Kelly's movie career not being very successful. I feel his films are in some way similar to Christopher Nolan's, only the latter knows how to make them more appealing to a wider audience and make them easy enough to follow (while still being labeled more complicated than your average big budget Hollywood movie). And his works are less bizarre, of course, but that's the way I like Kelly's.

The last part is so true. We have to correct you when you're wrong, it's our job.
The curse of Donnie Darko on Southland Tales is people mistaking satire for attempts at being deep.
That’s part of it. Also, no one read the Prequel Saga comics that came out before the film, so they were literally jumping into the story at the halfway point. The comics make sense of the film. Hard to find a copy of for cheap though. They are included on the blu-ray fortunately...
@@LearsGhost Very true. I honestly believe I understood---and enjoyed---"Southland Tales" because I read the graphic novel and researched the film beforehand.
