Thank you so much for posting this. I have two of Laura’s patterns and kits, and haven’t been able to understand her underlay technique. I took a workshop with her several years ago but this technique wasn’t used then. Your demo is easy to understand and now I can’t wait to get started!!!! Thank you!
Yay! I'm glad to hear that! Although I did not write these patterns, I have taught many students using the Fiberworks patterns. This seems to be the technique that confuses most people so I made the video to help out my students. I'm happy to see that many other people have been finding it useful as well!
Thank you for showing this - I have two of the patterns and I haven't even started them because the directions are confusing. Seeing this definitely helps!!!
Making my first collage quilt and the instruction starting approx 1:45 is what I need stamped into my brain, thank you!
Thank you so much for posting! I took the Laura Heine class years ago and forgot how to do the overlay technique.

It is a product called Pattern-Ease.
It is a product called Pattern Ease.
Thank you for this tutorial. I learned a lot! Are you tracing on the wrong side of the SAS?
Gracias 🙏
Very informative!
Thank you so much.
Thankhs to make this vedio
YAYYYY THANK YOU!!!
Why didn't you trace the image on the steam a seam 'BEFORE' you attached the fabric?
In this video, I have done it as described in the Fiberworks patterns (which I didn't write). I think you could do it the way you suggest as well!
Or use a light box to trace
I can’t believe the directions want you to go to all this trouble! You can just trace it before. Or use a light box. Who wrote this?!!!
I was just wondering the same thing. Thanks for the previous reply’s.
What are you using for tracing? Nothing seems to stay and show on the slick side of the SAS.
I use a soft, mechanical pencil.
Aplequeed?
Just trace on the steam-a-seam before fusing. Less work.
"..aPLI-qued on.."??? APPliqued is proper pronunciation.
