i kinda noticed with wangan ost that times are changing. Historically, Maximum Tune (Arcade) has only had trance music, which started to change around wmmt4. this is likely following consumer tastes as trance wasn't as popular in the 2010s as it was in the 2000s, but by wmmt6 and definitely 6rr, the songs are not just from near trance stuff (like house and techno), but from more outside influence. Love and Gold and its Eurobeat, Starry Night being a literal J-Pop song and so forth. This isn't just adapting to changing musical interests, but a reflection of the Wangan (Bayshore Route) expressway itself, and the culture. If you see the roads, they are too congested to race on. The car culture has reflected this and only shows the cars but never races them. Hence Yuzo Koshiro might’ve added more nostalgic touches to the 90s with jpop and eurobeat and other altercations to the ost as a way of communicating the age and perhaps loss of the motorway racing culture This probably differs to Initial D as most people want to recreate scenes from the anime, which are set to eurobeat music.
The music in WMMT6 also sound much more melancholy and sadder than the previous counterpart. In earlier entry. Street Racing was still the main culture loved and popularized by the media with many real life examples and spectacular event held and involve around it. But by the 6th game. The car culture the game based on became a legacy of the past. With the game itself became nothing but a nostalgia to a bygone era. And the tone of music change to reflect this.
For me, Move On is the best song in wmmt6rr. Every time the beat hits, the rush and emotions are insane XD. But for the most part, I just put on earphones and listen to the old ost.
2:52 Yuzo Koshiro really set the bar high with WMMT2 and Last Utopia + Holy Land Anthem, because I don't think any other WMMT track tops it at how epic and otherworldly it sounds.
Not to mention that he accepts this as a way to transform what was just his hobby back in 1990s, producing short trance song, into a job and his resumé. He thought that it would be just a short career since he thought WMMT1 would just eventually fade away like many arcade game before it and he would return to working mainly for Sonic series. Little did he know.....
I grew up with WMMT3DX+. And safe to say it was the first game ever for me to notice how banger the music was, and mind you i was still a child. Wasnt born in WMMT2 era but i vibe greatly with the osts to the point of having half of it onto my playlist among WMMT3 osts. 2 & 3 were just built different man.
I own a Z31 and love listening to this song while driving. All of the Yuzo Kosiro ft. Paula Terry stuff is amazing above 100+mph! Especially in an old sports car
I think the coolest thing about this video, to me, is that it reminds me that each game tends to switch up how legacy soundtrack BGM is chosen, even for stories; not necessarily needing to match the way the current version's BGM played out. For example, if you have the Maxi 1+2 soundtrack chosen and leave the BGM in Story 100 of 6RR on its default choice, *Nothing Lives Forever,* the moment the Devil Z joins the battle will be marked by *Acid Runner.* Instead of choosing the signature themes of the Blackbird and Devil Z like the the 3/3DX/3DX+ BGM does, the 1+2 BGM uses songs that have an air of finality to them. Other times, there's BGM choices which match the equivalent story in past versions, like Story 60's BGM choices for the Maxi 1+2 soundtrack matching Story 79 in the original WMMT2 (corresponding to the same battle.) These songs were *Another Dimension,* followed up by *Destination Blackout.* While there is obvious overlap in the purpose of certain songs and the characters associated with them, seeing the default choices for each soundtrack as you unlock them is honestly pretty neat!
