Andrew Gouché : Beyond the Bass

The Grammy Award winning gospel bass player talks about his introduction to music and performing with some of the greatest musicians including Michael Jackson, Andraé Crouch, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, and Prince.

One of my heroes in gospel bass playing. When I began playing the bass, I listened to whatever I could find Andrew Gouche playing on... From the NJ mass choir, Daryl Coley, Edwin Hawkins, LA Mass choir, James Moore, and so on. Back in those days '80's, it was cassette tapes and studying the material on my Sanyo boom box. It was exciting to get a tape knowing that he was one of the musicians playing because I knew I had some homework to do in learning these songs. Years later in the mid 90's, I met Andrew Gouche for the first time at his Prayze Connection in LA and he let my son (a young drummer at the time about 12 years of age) sit in with his band and they jammed together. Andrew is such a humble and talented person with an exciting demeanor on the bass. He lets people jam with him without any ego issues. God bless you brother and keep making great music.
