I thought about submitting a picture of my cooking, but then I remembered that it's James and that I was not ready to loose my honor, will to live and family after he roasted me, so I sat this one out boys. There's always next time
As an autistic person I can say we're not always the equivalent of a rabbit, I season my food and spend hours cooking until it's perfect. But that might be because I'm latino.
Also probably because it’s literally a spectrum. I’m autistic and just finished preparing a cheesecake (just needs to refrigerate over night) and I enjoy stir fries and pasta dishes. My autistic brother wouldn’t eat any of that. He eats broccoli (only when slightly cooked), meat (generally with no sauce), eggs, and various carbs like bread or chips. He won’t eat anything like pasta, he typically dislikes sauce, would be repulsed by the mere thought of eating stir fry, doesn’t like the texture of cheesecake (though often likes the texture of cakes more generally) etc. He does like to eat spicy foods though, so long as they’re not runny or otherwise oddly-textured. I make a good taco seasoning he likes and he’ll sometimes just add plain chilli flakes to his food to spice it up a bit. I actually tend to texturally prefer the foods he can’t stand, and vice versa. So we’re two autistic people raised in the same culture and household with the same food options yet we have completely opposite food experiences. Our differences are mostly based on different experiences with texture but some people can also find certain flavours overwhelming so that can factor in too.
@@genericname8727 Yep, it's the same with my bro. He can't eat any vegetable unless it's cooked or in a sauce, has to he seasoned. So no salads. Doesn't like any plain meat, meaning he doesn't like steak or chicken, but will eat it in a stew or with noodles. He also finds it hard to eat fresh fruit, he goes for the most sweet, because citrus tastes ten times more sour to him. Though now I realize his taste tends to change with time. It was really hard for him to eat anything while he was younger, to the point my family had to feed him just a plate of mashed bananas. He wouldn't eat any rice, meat, vegetables. Hated beef, chicken and mostly fish, with a passion. He had a thing where taste would fuck up his senses and instead of nausea, he would get a massive headache. But now he eats whatever, as long as it's tasty. Still no salads tho. For me it's the exact opposite, never had any problem with food. I always ate everything. Even the things that weren't edible LMAO
As an autistic person, I agree with Milly. That meal looked like a fine delicacy. Peas were slightly overcooked, and I don't really like breaded foods, but otherwise was so good-looking thank you Milly 8:40
Well, as an autistic person with issues about: Stringy/grainy food Anything that pops in your mouth (Yes, I'm aware that most fruit and vegetables falls under these catagories. I am deficient in vitamins that they have yet to discover.) It looks like a nightmare. I exist on a diet of pasta, bread, cheese, and the leanest meats possible (because grease and animal fat is icky)
@@Frickerdoodle ay glad to see another autistic in the "fats from meat are yick" category. Drives my dad spare every single time we have a Barbie and I "dissect" my steak. He knows I have sensory issues from the autism as well. Weirdly, apart from very bitter or sour foods, I'm ok with most flavours and enjoyed spiced food, which is odd but I put that down to ADHD.
A couple notes on that hate crime of a mushroom at 2:10 Tldr: beefsteak fungus, tastes tangy, weird texture, works actually quite well in a tartare of sorts, otherwise not pleasant, experimenting with flavours is fun. So it's a beefsteak fungus, it grows on oak/sweet chestnut from August to November, and has an impressive resemblance to meat (phenomenal marbling, bleeds, etc). In the picture I had cooked it up with some butter/garlic/parsley in the hopes of improving the taste - short answer, it didn't. The butter just kinda remained melted around it, and during cooking the fungus gives off a pinkish liquid that you can also see on the plate. It has a slightly tangy taste, and the texture is slightly rubbery (is floppy and all but also breaks in an odd way when you chew it) - hard to explain. (Also note, If thinly sliced you can eat it raw) The way I cooked it in the picture was a hard no from me (I didn't finish it), but in attempt to work with the slight tanginess, I made some of it into a tartare of sorts, which I thought worked much better. The tartare was the raw mushroom finely chopped, with onion, gherkins, capers, mayo, and dill, which was actually rather nice on buttered toast. Looks fully rancid in the photo, but it's a lot of fun to experiment with weird ingredients and figure out how they cook/what tastes best, would recommend. (Also note: don't collect/consume anything unless you are 100% certain that you've identified it correctly, don't be an idiot and don't die)
@@Minceraft69 Looks way more meat-like when raw it's pretty impressive. I wouldn't say it was nice unfortunately, with its slightly acidic/sour taste I find it difficult to enjoy -definitely not something I could find out foraging and be happy to make a meal of. They'll be back in season in a few months and I'll probably try experimenting more with it then
hospital food is so weird. i spent some time in hospital not too long ago (hooray covid!) and one of the lunch menu options was literally just a plate of grated cheese. i guess for some patients it's just about getting the calories in, no matter what form, and if that's all you can stomach so be it?
today i had school (surprise surprise!!) and i had the last lunch wave today because the times were switched. the school SOMEHOW ran out of food by the time my wave came in and with about 50-60 kids not getting food yet, they were out of food so they had to take leftover cheese, rolls, turkey, tater tots, and make something. I ended up with a roll with 2 pieces of cheese inside and tater tots.
