Lori McKenna is a brilliant songwriter and artist and although I don't know her, I've been a big fan of hers and her song "The Time I've Wasted' for a long time. I've probably listened to it at least a hundred times in the last ten years since the album it was on came out.
I would imagine the song was written about the time Lori or one of her co-writers wasted on a relationship that didn't work out, and the regret she has for all the time given to it someone that you can never get back... and as much as I loved the song and what it has to say.... recently, the lyrics and the story that it tells has touched me differently than it ever has before.
Like a lot of people, I have a complicated 'like / dis-like' relationship with a lot of the new technology that has come into all of our lives in the last decade or two. And, as helpful as it is and can be to have all this power at our fingertips, it's also a tremendous distraction and disrupter of many of the most important things in our lives, including time with the people we love most, and also with God and with ourselves.
My hope is that this video version of Lori's song might be a reminder that the cost of our iPhones and devices are often much more than just the price Apple charged our credit cards.
And perhaps at least for our families sake, less is more, when it comes to using technology.

You’re not alone. I think a lot of us have used our phones and computers as an escape and to release stress but it’s a temporary release. When we end our day and realize how much time we wasted we get angry with ourselves and feel even more stressed. Ma’am I’ll be cheering you on and praying for you as you start back to living and finding your identity again. I could so identify with you. I didn’t lose my husband but I did my dad. Yet everyone here is watching this on a device from your social media account. This song was not necessarily written about social media - but about anything we sink unproductive time into … even productive time if we are workaholics.
The children is what breaks my heart. They feel second best and unimportant. Everywhere I go I see parents on their phone instead of listening or playing with their kids. Heart breaking. I need to set some boundaries for myself as well.
I have wasted my time hoping and praying. My two Son's never calk me or visit. I am so depressed. This song so resonates with me. I will be 63 next week and you only get one Mum. 😢😢

I grew up in the 50’s where children are to be seen and not heard. Thank goodness for my Nancy Drew books and records and I could ride my horse and play with my dog and cat. Really didn’t care for adults.
This was an amazing song. It reminds me of how I used to be on my phone and computer until a few months ago. A few months ago I had a major to me health crisis to the point I landed in the ICU. I almost died, which made me realize I need less time online and go outside and smell the winter air. Now I only use my phone to call or text my 2 daughters and my boyfriend if I need him to pick up something at the store on his way home.

I just lost my husband of 51 years May 13 2024, we’ve never been apart this long n I can’t seem to push on through , my body aches n my heart is 💔💔I am a Christian n I know God is walking with me , it’s the separation that is so difficult, he was very sick at age 68 n I wouldn’t want him to still be here sick, but I sure miss my other half of my heart 😢❤ I need prayers please. I didn't get a smart phone, I got a flip phone. That will stop you from being on it all the time. I can get on RUclips with it and it has GPS, but it is just not near as easy to use it.

I have wasted more time than I care to admit trying to be the perfect parent to my kids as they were babies and now that they are grown with kids of their own I evidently still don’t measure up to what they think a perfect mother is. Of course they aren’t as perfect with their own kids as they expect me to be with them and now the grandkids. I’m just a mom as good as I can be but now my daughter hasn’t talked to me in I can’t even remember how long and she said it’s because I favor my son over her and that’s not the case at all my son lives in the same town as me and she lives 25 minutes away but she doesn’t visit me at my house she just always expects me to go to her house and says if I don’t visit them it’s because I don’t want to see her babies. When I was growing up we went to my grandparents house every Sunday I hardly ever remember my grandparents coming to our house it was always the kids go to the grandparents house to visit. She makes me feel like such a failure and I KNOW I gave my kids 100% of myself and still do

I’m wasting my life with a man that has never loved me. I kept trying to convince myself that he’d sooner or later change into the man he was prior to our marriage for you see he knew I had thus amazing marriage/life before. My beloved husband died & this man I remarried actually thought he would be able to have a similar life. However you have to actually work thru your own demons, you can’t lie to the woman you’re dating. Yes his entire existence has been a lie.
He now is showing signs of Dementia & I was getting ready to tell him “ It’s OVER “ but I can’t because I feel guilty for thinking about leaving him even though I know he has never loved me.
I really want someone to tell me it’s ok to leave.
I’m 69 yrs young & would love another chance to be happy but I wonder if I’ve waited too long? I don’t want to end up having to do semi -full- time care again like I’m doing now, I’d rather live totally alone.
I lost my partner April 2nd after 37years together and 😢and I'm devastated still, our Anniversary is December 12th then Christmas I don't know how to get 💔 through them, I have no family or real friends at my age life is so hard now

My gosh people, are you all so influenced by the spin he put on this?? Coming from a position where the only way of connecting with my family is through said phones and technology, I think this is VERY deceptive. Technology is important for families that can not be together physically. Also, he is reaching all of you through the same technology he speaks against to support himself. If you open your eyes to the hypocrisy in his message maybe you will see the singer is singing about wasted time dwelling over something shes lost...maybe a boyfriend that was destined to fail. There is a plan that the higher powers have for all of us and he WANTED humans to learn, to develop, to thrive, to grow or he would not have given us all the knowledge he did. He would have made us all unable to learn another way. People can now travel to other lands, meet people, find their soulmates, find new love after incredible loss all because of this wonderful invention called the internet. Stop following the warped message in this video and think for yourselves. A different video would have given this song the meaning it should....someone talking about how they have lost time , precious time we have on this earth, to experience so much joy and happiness and you don't have to sacrifice technology because of some stupid deceptive hypocritical video.
