I definitely get 1984 vibes from the show. There’s a lot of Orwellian symbolism, including the Silo itself, which mimics the Panopticon - a cylindrical style prison or institution where the people are always being watched without knowing who is watching them (I’m sure there’s a better definition out there). The level of control engineered into the Silo society, from the lack of elevators and a single stairwell to choosing who gets to have kids and who gets to know about stars and planets are 100% in Orwellian territory and absolutely a reflection of our current society. And the imagery of the eyes all over the walls this season is definitely symbolic of some kind of ‘big brother’. Given the religious undertones regarding the Pact (and now it seems the Order), there’s this feeling that ‘God’ is watching, but who is God in the world of Silo? The way Bernard acted in this episode, especially, was like a man of faith sacrificing the thing he loves most for his god. There’s definitely a bigger boss and bigger picture that we haven’t seen yet. Also, love the “silo within a silo” commentary. 👌 > Not specifically show related, but kinda thematically related: @14:30 Those glasses that supposedly allow colorblind people to see the full spectrum of color aren’t real. About Solo: He probably was the Sherrifs son, we saw in the beginning of the season. I assume he was in that vault for about 30-40 years. So his behaviour absolutely makes sense. For him growing up, there were no adults around, so why would he suddenly behave like one. Also: yeah that thing Meadows had in her house is a flying disk and I had one myself in the late 80s/early 90s. ;)
I agree he is the Sheriff son and his eye were damaged from Radiation possibly. He is stunted in maturity because he's been alone since age 10-12 years old so he is stuck at that age.
There is this cool dynamic between Simms and Benard because Simms has the Physical Power in the Silo and Benard has the Knowledge power in the Silo. They both know things that the other doesn't know. It reminds me of like a General w8th troops who are extremly loyal to him and you have the President during wartime. In a Sense the General is almost as Powerful as the President.
Hey guys! You labeled the video and the podcast “deep dive” but isn’t this the quick reaction? Also, slow horses imo is far superior to the Agency. The acting, writing and directing is top notch and very top tier. The agency is quite good so far, but not slow horses clever. Anyway, I’ve loved you guys for a couple years but finally subscribed to the RUclips to see what you guys look like!
That's not a popular opinion, but I do tend to agree. The Bernard character is willing to do evil things to protect the Silo and his own position and power. However if he was truly evil, I don't think he would have comforted Meadows in her last moments. Also before he send out Juliet to clean in the last episode of the first season, his behavior is not consistent with someone who enjoys inflicting misery on another person.
Meadows being so calm after finding out she was poison and basically betrayed by someone she loved made no sense whatsoever to me especially being a Blackman😂. And us having to see Julia basically doing the samething to get Solo out the Vault AGAIN! was redundant and unnecessary. Besides those 2 hiccups I loved the episode.
Hey - cool podcast! Thanks for covering!

Thanks for the recognition 👍
I dont think Bernard is evil, its more like is is totaly fanatical about Order. He was actualy sad he had to do what he did.
