  • Rescue 50 responding to a medical assist in the Lancaster County Park. We were dispatched to help EMS access a patient with a back injury in the park. After crews found the best way to access the patient, they were able to walk out with EMS and the crew from Engine 64-3. At first there was an issue with the dispatch that we had no pager or siren activation. Soon after a few of us realized there was a call we got to the station and had county redispatch it. You can listen to the siren activation at the beginning of the video (we leave at 2:15). Then at 5:53 we had a car pull out in front of us. We narrowly missed hitting them. Willow Street Fire Company.

    Y’all would have killed them if y’all hit no doubt in my mind. The engineer didn’t have a chance to respond. I had a close call like that a few weeks ago. I was running code to a shots fired and this dude not paying attention pulled in my lane I was doing 70 in a 55 so you can tell the speed difference.

    I was in silverton oregon one day when the volunteer raid sounding siren went off, i was right next to it. It nearly blew my eardrums out of my head. It was on top of the city hall which is only one story high, so it was right in my face. I got an immediate headache. Most cities put them on top of high buildings or a pole. Ppl dont like yielding to emergency equipment ive noticed

      Not from the area, but I’ve asked that question before. What I was taught, is that you try your best to kill all the noise you can. Siren. Q. Horns. Some of their horses can handle it, some can’t. The end goal is to minimize the possibility of said horse jumping out in front of your apparatus.

    Is Rescue 50 in a small township? Usually when an air raid siren goes off in a small town, it’s a “page” of sorts for the local fire department. At least here in the Midwest that’s how it goes.

    • @josephbennett3482
      @josephbennett3482 4 года назад

      @Mr Sunshines stop being ignorant, you clearly don't understand that in a lot of places in the United States mainly in the Midwest they use Air Raid sirens for warning people of tornadoes that has touched down and they don't use them as fire department tone out equipment.
      Just goes to show how before people like you go name calling people you need to do some research on the uses of Air raid sirens because after the cold war they got repurposed in most countries that no longer use them for warning of nuclear weapons launches.
      That person is just commenting about it because they are probably from an area that uses them as tornado warning systems.

    Can't believe anyone uses storm warning sirens for fire alerting still.

  • @brucebaugh47
    @brucebaugh47 6 лет назад

    Just curious. Why do you still use a station siren when you all have other means of notification of calls?

    • @Fire-Rescue50
      @Fire-Rescue50  6 лет назад +6

      Bruce Stambaugh We keep the siren as a back up, and as a method of telling the surrounding community to be on the lookout for fire trucks and firefighters

    • @brucebaugh47
      @brucebaugh47 6 лет назад

      At some point, you may want to ask the surrounding community what they think of the siren ringing so much. They may prefer the quiet response.

    • @Fire-Rescue50
      @Fire-Rescue50  6 лет назад +5

      Bruce Stambaugh It turns off at 9pm and starts up at 7am. The pros out weigh the cons in our situation

    • @brucebaugh47
      @brucebaugh47 6 лет назад +1

      Actually, all the firefighters should care. If the siren is disturbing the sick and elderly, which I know it is, they should consider NOT using it when there are other means of notification. It's simply holding onto the past. It's time to silence the siren.
