    In Japanese arts break balance is called Atemi. Very important for grapple arts.. This Silat is deadly effective, super controlled and fluid. Beautiful techniques sir

    • @curtrod
      @curtrod 6 лет назад +3

      google atemi!: "In Japanese martial arts, the term atemi (当身) designates blows or strikes to the body"

    • @Psilocybiant
      @Psilocybiant 6 лет назад +5

      curtrod yep that's right, strikes used as openers to other techniques. Looseners is another term . Japanese jujutsu uses atemi strikes to break the posture...

    • @curtrod
      @curtrod 6 лет назад +6

      @@Psilocybiant "Kuzushi is very often thought of as simply pushing or pulling. At more advanced levels however it is much more than that. For example, kuzushi can also be achieved by breaking the opponent's rhythm, fake attacks, strikes, changes of body position or grip, kiai (a shout), or a sudden change in speed or tempo. A critical element in kuzushi is that it should disrupt more than the body. Kuzushi is very much a mental thing. Kuzushi should always disrupt the opponent's concentration, resulting in a momentary opportunity for an attack...Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo, made the principle of kuzushi one of the fundamental elements of Judo, distinguishing it from old schools of jujitsu. The principle of kuzushi is still considered to be one of his major contributions to the study of martial arts." Judoinfo.com, yep, atemi could cause off-balancing or lead to it, I'm not sure if it's the same as 'breaking one's structure' as in Silat, Michael Echanis (US Special Forces) of Hwarang Do in his knife self-defense book said to avoid the weapon, stabilize the weapon, break the opponent's base, then disarm, and Yang Jwing-ming, scholar of Chinese styles and Qinna (grandfather of jujitsu) expert said 'counter strikes with throws or takedowns, counter throws or takedowns with Qinna (locking, or seizing and holding, including sealing blood vessels and pressure point strikes), and counter Qinna with striking, which could be with any part of the body, that is to say 'atemi' in Japanese 😁

    • @Psilocybiant
      @Psilocybiant 6 лет назад

      curtrod interesting, thank you for the lesson. Yea my limited understand from jujitsu was that atemi strikes are used to create a reaction for a follow up technique.
      Cheers

      the video is for us (at least me) amateur to understand the principle of the moves. I'm sure when we already practice it often enough, the move will come naturally and reflexively, thus become useful in a real life situation.

    Damn, this is better taichi than can be found in most taichi classes :D I know, it's silat, but there are so many common principles!

    • @Cynry
      @Cynry 5 лет назад

      @Ken Jay Don't know much about silat, but it looks like it was tailored with the blade in mind, even in their striking style. Would that be somewhat right? Definitely different applications than taichi, which is closer the grappling.
      See, your comment about hardness is what I was referring to with my jab at taichi classes :D Taichi is supposed to include hard too, it's the art of extremes, from relaxed to tensed, but this part is almost never seen in classes, and barely known by teachers.
      Silat seems more preserved and balanced in its current state, hopefully it stays that way!

      you just follow through, you dont need to catch the jab. the Important part is the body. if you have cultivated some internal teaching, then you can consciously use the natural biomechanics and anotomy of the body and with that you can manipulate the tensed body Part of your opponent through Touching like he demonstrates

      actually silat was secret martial art, just taught in family member, all secret tecniques pass down to selected students.
      Silat has many styles, but.. for the secret of the conditional body, etc.., it depends on a grand master... open secret or not
