- Today I am up on the roof, sealing and haunching up around the chimney stack to prevent further water ingress. Then continuing the work in the upstairs of the old cottage.

Here on my channel, I am renovating a 250 year old stone cottage on my property in Normandy, France. By using traditional, low-waste and off-grid methods, I'm aiming to keep the charm and character of this old building, and turn it into a furnished, finished home for family whilst keeping environmental impact as low as possible. There will also be content on living in France, visiting beautiful rural places, hunting for antiques, gardening and more! Hit subscribe if you would like to keep up with my journey, and hit the notification bell to be alerted when we go LIVE where we have a first viewing of the video as it is published with a live chat so I can answer all your questions! See you in Sean's World.
I say ‘hats off’ to you and those who are not afraid of heights!
You are really making great progress. I love the way you told Sam to say hello to everyone before she had the chance to scold you for being on the roof!! xx
He was warning her not to scold him because he was filming. She may have talked to him later though. It's always good to have someone around if you have to do anything that is potentially dangerous.🤗
I’m impressed, holding on for dear life on the roof, getting work done, and filming! Way to go!
You and me both!
Finaly no leaking roof anymore! Great job Sean!💋
I hope Ted and Leza from Chateau de Montmagner are watching they had issues with their haunching I think it was that other stuff you mentioned. I think you would like their place it's a medieval design and they are sweet. Ted's had an injury recently even some advice from you would be useful when they are ready to tackle theirs. I am glad the weather was kind in letting you finish your repairs. I could never do that myself. Good on you Sean :)
I’m with Sam when I see you up on those ladders on the roof. 😮 Big love to you both.
Beautiful view up there . Stay safe
My husband and I sure enjoy both your channels. They’re both so interesting and fun to watch! Also, love the cats. Thank you for sharing and be safe 💜
So pleased you have a break from the rainy weather. A bit scary on the roof, but you got the job done Sean.
You're so right about the weather--it dictates what can or can't be done.
Beautiful view from the roof! Lovely day! Very fine progress! ❤😊👍
I’m so pleased to see you wearing a mask 😷 Sean! It’s so important 😊
Gotta be extra careful when the boss is nearby 😂. Sean the weather makes it interesting you’re so great about being flexible with the tasks you do.
Sean, I live in Oklahoma. We’ve had 11 inches of rain in the last ten days, and more is on the way. Getting planting done has been hard for us to do. I feel your pain
Hi you two. Sean, be careful up there. I held my breath….just saying. That cottage is going to be fabulous ! That’s because it’s being done correctly. See you in the next one.
Roof is happy its getting fixed😂😂😂☔
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
NICE!!! Looking really good Sean! Will be so nice when the weather clears and you have several nice days and can finish off the other area on the back of the roof that is in need of repair. The quick view of the kitties at the beginning of the vlog was so lovely for those of us that appreciate your Kitty Updates! Thank you for that and stay safe up on the roof!!
Thanks Sean another job ticked off the list ❤
Second day in a row that RUclips has unsubscribed me.
Always enjoy the videos. Makes me feel I'm lending a hand.
Thank you 😊
Hi Sam. Sean I see you're able to wear your boots again. Always safety first. The cats looked very happy today. Adorable as always.
Hi Ruth 😊
Yes ankle on the mend
Stay safe Sean- be careful and yes I think the rest of the roof needs to be replaced. :D
I loved watching, today. Hercules, your repairs are superb. My house has your roof pitch. I watch you from my bedroom where I touch ceiling/
roof with my foot if I stretch up from my bed...just like your cottage bedroom to be...It is heaven hearing the rain pounding overhead. One and 1/2 story homes are so cozy...But your cottage is a few hundred years older than mine....Whoever gets your cottage is lucky, lucky, lucky...Nice to see Lady Sam and lions, too...A great video today, after I did my first yard work of the season...Thank you so much...!!!
I think I would make an excellent weather person...it may or may not rain...I'd be right every time!
It's the only job that I know of where you can get it wrong 50% of the time and still keep your job!!!
Yeah, I wouldn't go on that roof....afraid of heights and falling through it! LOL
The framing is going to look great.
Thanks for sharing, Sean. 👍👍
Any wonder Sam would be cross, you were up there without your harness Sean. Safety first remember.
Great work as usual 👏🏻👏🏻😊
Fill your watering can and sprinkle some water on the floor before you sweep up. Keeps the dust down.
Your workplace would be good as a library/ sitting room. With another window, a great illustrating studio or artist retreat. A bed sitting room upstairs with a small kitchen/ dining room downstairs.
Gosh I was so worried when you were at the top of the ladder! So glad that you stayed safe. Another great video.
Great work and video! Be safe on that roof and stay out of trouble with Ms. Sam!
Slow and steady will get you there sooner than you think.
Yes 👍 it's not that kind of project where you can go smashing into it, as it could have easily brought the whole lot down. 😉
Just the thought of getting up on that ladder let alone doing something while up there makes my tummy hurt!!!😮😮
Stay safe!
Thanks 👌
Thanks Sean; another enjoyable video x
Glad you enjoyed it
Crack On!! Almost 50,000!!
Happy Monday to you over there. Good job done Sean.
Yes, the weather is frustrating at times. Stay safe. Good job.
Soon the weather will be less rain and you will be able to complete what you want to do on the roof.
At least, when it's a bit cloudy, it's not too hot to work on the roof.🤔
Good work 😊😊😊😊
An electric caulking gun is a game changer if you do a lot of that mastic sealing. Not sure if Ryobi tools are are for sale by you, but it was a game changer for us when redoing our house. It was the best $50 we ever spent.
Amazing!
Roof in France is exactly expensive and roofer are not always available before month depending on the region this cottage going well
Beautiful view
All U. S. Weather, predictive weather patterns and extended weather patterns suggest very turbulent conditions increase over summer- so far they; in my opinion have been Spot On .🖨️
Great job
When it comes time to cover the roof again perhaps you can locate used water bladders. You could then cut them to fit your roof dimensions. They are heavy and won't blow off the roof like plastic tarps do. Get the ones that are impervious to UV light. They will last a lifetime and greatly reduce the sound of rain too. They are often free at marine salvage companies.
Thank you. I enjoy your videos . I'm past the age when I can do that now , but so informative and relaxing .
Well done.😊
For all people who can’t afford to get builders in invaluable and more importantly you know a know a good job has been done .
Yes, that's the idea to show people that things can be done on a zero budget
Great job, well done🙌👍
I can see why Sam would not like you up on the roof. It's very high up and steep. Fabulous view though. ❤🐨
Won't be long now....❤❤
Well done for going up the ladder to the roof and fixing what needed to be done. As to the weather, well it's just plum crazy. Fingers crossed that it picks up soon eh Sean.
Hello Sean and Sam I love my new mug it's perfect for Hot chocolate and coffee for my dad's mug we enjoyed it on the back porch this evening beautiful sunset
That's great 👍 Carson
I am not surprised that Sam doesn’t like you working on the roof especially when presumably you are working on the property alone?
Sean, I hope you get a go pro soon. It would be easier to film while up on the roof. You are amazing, sir.❤
Looking good Sean
It's surprising by clearing it all away, you can see how lovely it's going to be. A true work of art.
The garden was pretty. Won't be long now before you move your tools downstairs. 🎉.❤
Oh you! Be careful up there! ❤❤
Oh Sean my heart was in my mouth when you climbed that roof ! I'm also with Sam. Good job done though matey , take care x
Good job!
If it ain't one thing it's another😂 I to get nervous when you go on the roof without anyone around.🤞
Sean, weather is not very good here too. I would like to start planting, but I will wait. Thanks for sharing, till next time.
Thanks 👍
Hi Sean. This comment is totally off subject. I just saw a cottage style home in ireland. (I like to look at realestate). I now see what having the elevation change where you'll be creating a step up or down. In this case I could see the reason for it.
Have you ever used liquid pvc coating sealants? I bought some to seal a sandy external wall before painting. It went on so easily (it looks like milk) with a brush and is invisible. I decided not to paint the wall, and it's still holding the rainwater at bay 7 years later.
Brill
One job I don't think comes naturally, repairing/roof work. Scary... One side is done now and it does looks great 👍 - more dry weather and maybe the other side of the roof could be repaired too. All will be sealed and water tight. We can see the progress being made 👍
Great progress mate!
Sean, be extra careful on the roof.
Great to get that window in! Good job!
Great work Sean. The cottage is coming on beautifully ✅✅✅✅
You were wearing your harness in the beginning of the video, then you get up without it not very safe Sean. Should not take chances like that🤗
No way would i get on that roof...You are brave.
Speaking from personal experience….fix things as well as you can because remember you are not getting any younger. Doing it in a few years will likely be harder for you.
Sean where is your harness???? No wonder Sam gets upset!
Another great video. I love how you do things, and i will be nicking some of your ideas as I've got my own 200 year old cottage that im renovating. Keep up the great work 👍🏻
That looked tough, Sean. Don't forget to recharge the batteries (I mean you)!
Hope you make the roof Water Tight Sean. Not
To worry. You are getting it
Done. Things
Take time.😊
Making progress
Slowly
It's much slower to restore an ancient building than to rebuild it
So interesting ! Appreciate you filming all this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
❤️❤️
Hello Sam😊
I sugget woodenshoes when using a latter. All over the world there is unusual weather, it is a bit scary I think.
Hello Sean😊
Hi Sean, where you did the chimney lime, are you going to put that sealant over the join between tiles, lime and chimney…just wondered…I am a novice so intrested in what you do.
Sean! Wear your harness! We treasure your life ❤
Thanks 👌 😊
Good job done Sean! Are you getting more rain than usual in or is it typical for this time of year? 🙏❤️
More than usual Mave ☔️
You are so brave up those ladders even harnessed up but wow those ladders are hooked up on roof tiles what if those tiles give way i love your vids learnt a lot but still feel nervous watching those ladder jobs x
Iam as safe as l can be, the ladders are nice and secured.
I think youre gonna need a BIGGER CAT PLAYHOUSE..ASAP
Maybe put the cats in the cottage as the playhouse LOL
We’re having flooding rains and tornadoes this week in Texas
❤❤❤❤
Nice goin m8
❤🪜❤🪚❤🧱❤🐈❤
Can you clean the roof tiles, or does that even matter?
I don't understand why the first order of business wouldn't have been to repair the roof where the daylight is peering in before you start studding that side of the wall....construction techniques are certainly different in France.
I had to first work on securing the roof before l got on it. The stud wall was done the day before l repaired the leak so no damage there. Yes the old construction and techniques are definitely different from many other countries, remember lam preserving not rebuilding.
If he got up on the roof before repairing the rafters he would have fallen straight through leaving a much bigger hole and possibly hurting himself then he would not be able to continue to make videos for you to watch!!!!
No doubt a very interesting 14 minutes, but the time I left to make a cuppa, and returned it was all over.Autoplay took over so I watched something else on the same topic but lasted longer, and finished my mug of tea.....cheers.
That's a shame, the duration of a video depends on what job l have planned. Hope to see you next time
@@Seans_World Thanks, yes I did watch on catch up.I think you do well being's you back is a bit mucky-tuck.
Mucky-tuck ?😂 😃 😀 😄
@@Seans_World 👍
@@---Kevin-J-Ripley--- So ? what's your point ?
Hi Sam…what was lunch?
Salad 🥗
Sean, you need to bend that brim on the white hat…you don’t look very much like a rapper. Lol
Good Morning. Where are you in the world? Gorgeous view. Good on your maintaining and using the old ways. Yes not everything needs to be new fangled. Thanx for the inspiration. Cannot wait to get back to Europe in November. I bought a 6 acre piece of land with olive trees and a river in Central Portugal. Cheers. Keep on motivating. Gina in Upstate New York USA moving to Portugal. How long have you been in Portugal now? Gina
France 🇫🇷 good luck with your adventure Gina
You too. You are way ahead of me Sean. Love watching your progress. Thanx for the inspiration@@Seans_World
When is the roof going to be done
I'm not sure that is easily answered. Work like that depends on so many factors. My suggestion would be to be patient it'll get there.
Does the little peak roof we can see -dormer…- leak?
Yes
That roof is so steep. Did they make them that steep because it snows a lot there or did they need the rafters for hanging something like tobacco or whatever for drying? Just trying to figure out why they needed such steep roofs . 🤔🤔
Rain fall
Does lime crack when its below zero?
Not if carbonation has taken place prior to a cold snap
Would expanding foam compatible with your existing project; applied from within and covered over by application of your choice? Just another stupid question.Lol L
Not suitable in this application
Maybe you weren’t having so many different tasks and they make you pay attention to the weather . Maybe it hasn’t changed just your jobs youre doing!
No it's definitely different
Much more rain this year
Much more rain this year
🌟👏👍🍀💐
