I'm a VIP at Bud's Guns Online "$20 a year, no big deal" and was able to order one of these for $479 last night. Thanks for doing an excellent in-depth review. I'm super excited about getting mine in hand.
It's several years later and the .308 is out and about now, your review popped up while I looked for videos on the .308 version. While your review is on the .223 I would like to say I like your approach to reviews. You answered some of the questions about the MVP in general I wasn't finding on others. Stay Safe!
It's 4+ years since this video was made. I bought this set-up recently (for target shooting) in 5.56 and it has been great. I did change the scope to a Vortex for better sniping. Have gone as far as 500 yards without a problem. Behind my Rem 700 this is my go-to rifle. Good mechanics and great stock.
Wife and I each have one of these rifles. Scope's are Nikon P 223 3-9 x 40 BDC 600, stock's are the laminate ones and the recoil lugs are bedded with JB Weld. I use them when training new shooters at our range. Both rifles shoot dime size groups at 100 yards.
No one ever told me that our bodies change in a negative way as we age. I built a custom 270 over 40 years ago. Hunted Montana and Minnesota a lot. Ate a lot of deer meat. I purchased a Mossberg MVP Predator 4 years ago. It is a very accurate rifle. My 270 has always been fun to shoot. It is very accurate and adequate out to 600 yards. Now when I shoot it, I get headaches (C 6 in my neck is displaced from injury) I traded the 270 in on another MVP Predator in 5.56 NATO. Will add a Nikon P-223 BDC 600 and I will bed the action to the stock with JB Weld. (just like I did with the first one) Very good rifle.
Great review. For the record I have a Remington 700 VTR and the factory stock is not "garbage" its actually well balanced and comfortable to shoot, and very durable. Mossberg just looks like they contracted out stocks from Stocky's for the MVP, similar to what Savage did with their BSEV Mark II from Boyd's. Fact is one can find flaws in any stock firearm it's all personal preference. 1 thing I liked the MVP over my VTR for though was the AR mag. But I can almost drive nails with my VTR @ 100yds.
Good Video ! One of a few rifles on my list. I like that it takes AR-15 Magazines, 1.9 twist, a little bit thicker barrel(good for the bush) & reasonable price. Always liked Mossberg's Shotguns but not rifles. I do think the company is finally doing some things right now. Like this rifle & their new M-15 for approx $700(Great Bang for the Buck)
I should add that unless you are shooting in competitions or at extreme distances, custom bedding is generally not necessary, especially if you are new to rifles.
Most factory rifles have some amount of play between the action/barrel and the stock of the gun. This makes the gun less accurate/consistent because the barrel can move slightly in the action upon recoil. Bedding a gun, takes up that play by either securing the action to the stock with tightly fitted pillars and screws, or by placing fiberglass epoxy resin between the action and the stock to make a totally seamless fit. If done correctly, it will make a rifle more consistently accurate.
Can you show me the barrel crown size because i buy 5,56 barrel from local gunsmith but the barrel tip or barrel crown size is abou 5,3mm. I affraid the bullet will jammed if shooting.
@leoffensive i talked to a manager AT big 5 yesterday he said they dont have them.an since there new, big 5 has to do paper work with the manufacture before putting them on shelfs.and dont they come out like in march or april? how does big 5 have them? what i was told will b the last ones to have them.
weird question, but have you tried shooting wolf ammo through it? Or any other lower quality steel cased ammo for that matter? I know it won't be that accurate, I just want to know if it'll feed correctly.
Hi Guys! I just bought one of the about three weeks ago. I was all excited when I read the reviews and went and ordered one. What I should have done was read about the problems they were having with this rifle. Mine started having problems right out of the box. When I tested my rifle I ran 200 rounds of four different types of ammo. Aprox 40 rounds went bang, the rest would either hit the primer and not fire or would not hit the primer at all. Next the magazines are floppy loose and will rock forward so far that they will not strip the next round. I tried 6 six different magazines. I saw on one review in the comments that they just wrapped electrical tape around the magazine to hold it tjght, its a new rifle! Why would they do that? Anyway they have been having these issues two years and they are still sending these rifles out to customers without addressing these problems? I ended up buying a Ruger Scout. Its more money, but a quality firearm. I would think twice before buying this Mossburg.
@bmuskiehunter Would you like to provide some more detail on your problems? Everyone I have talked to has been very happy and with proper ammo and a competent shooter can shoot sub MOA...
Of course us sheep in Canada pay more,749.99can,but it's a nice out of the box shooter.Just smacked down 2 coyotes, hornady V-Max 55 grain.100yd, .750",and that's in a hurry to site it in.Whoever engineered this rifle, did it right.Topped it with Nikon p-223 optics.
Its nobody secret and for every profesional shooter that the wood made stock can get inflated with changes of temperature and humidity and as a consecuence touch the floating barrel provoking deflections on the shots and complete lost of accuracy, just star making sintetic stock and will be the best varmint rifle on the market...

What Vortex scope did you end up using I'm looking to do the same thing
great video! Clear concise and neatly packaged. good job dude.

Great review, first of all. Thank you and I'm going to order my son and I one after my research and your review. God Bless.

I'm getting one of these as my next firearm. Coyote and beaver hunting gun. Love the style and execution of this series of firearm.

That seems pretty good. A buddy and I bought a geo metro and beat the hell out of it for a year, it never gave up.
awesome video, thanks man. but could you make one showing the whole gun and close ups of the barrel , bipod front to back . mahalos.

I love that finish on the mvp..ideal camo for hunting..do you know if the mvp is legal in california?
Curious why you plan on bedding this rifle when its already pillar bedded?
Great follow-up review, thanks alot!
@Dustin Diaz .....barrel is 24" Preditor is I think 18-20
Can't wait to get one myself.
I am new to rifles could you please explain what bedding is and how it makes the rifle better, thanks.
How long is the barrel on that rifle? great review by the way.....Subed!
I have a patriot mvp 5.56 and can not close the bolt with clip being in while empty any ideas what It could possibly be
@Thehunter2476 I pre-ordered from a local FFL. Not a retail store.
Can you show me the barrel crown size because i buy 5,56 barrel from local gunsmith but the barrel tip or barrel crown size is abou 5,3mm. I affraid the bullet will jammed if shooting.
hmmm.... now it's a choice between the mossberg mvp and the ruger american rifle... which one?...
How would this gun hold up against a savage model 12? I love the mossberg but it's hard to turn away from the accuracy of the savage.
How come no one thought of this before? I think the predator version is a perfect "scout" rifle, better than the ruger gunsite IMO

thanks for the advice

do you have any feeding/ reliability problems with it??? ive also heard that it has a stiff bolt when lifting the bolt up.. is that true?

nice review
Should I get this or a new 24" upper?
Any AR magazine will work
You need to test it with a 100rd beta mag.
what about the x-15?
It's a bolt action with a 10 round mag your good to go.
how much? and is it legal in canada?
What calibers are in there
i want one!
Its not that rough if you know how to manipulate them. With only a little bit of practice they cycle just fine.
^as for that comment from bmuskiehunter~ can you translate that in to standard English? I think it's in Jive.
Why would you bed this rifle!?! Mossberg sent it from the factory already floated and bedded!
what did you pay?
it is... i saw one at big 5
now mossberg needs to make one in 308 that would use ar10 mags
They did. I love mine
@@joemoment-o1275 comment from 8yrs ago lol
@@joemoment-o1275 now savage needs to do the same to their 308s lol
Sweeeeeet!
also, , ruger only takes those one mag, and its 308

@Michaelskids oh ok thanks thats kinda what i thought
Why wouldn't it be?
probably isnt legal in california because of the rules against detachable magazines.
THIS A KOOL RIFLE BUT FOR THE SAME PRICE..I'D RATHER BUY THE RUGER GUNSITE
Yes it is legal in Canada. :-)
@rubbindubbin4life ....
going to get one i live in Los angeles...... its legal
@rubbindubbin4life No idea... I live in a free state. Sorry!
Replace the piece of crap plastic magazine well with superb metal one from Tromix, $75. Check out their trigger guard too, about $40. Take care....
can't wait to see somebody put a beta mag on one of these lol
all i can say is that would be a hell of a prarie dog gun
ruger gunsite scout...
Then your the only people ever. Beta mags are dog shit, they just dont work.
you should take a public speaking course that way you will get rid of the aum aum what
beta mags are worthless. they have the reliability of a geo metro.
