The idea of him and a refined ron hollands on the wings with Cade makes me so excited. I know the shooting isn't there yet, but if they can figure it out they can bully teams into submission. Great work as always
@@cameronbolden5064 Cade was very good off-ball this year, Monty just refused to use Ausar in situations where he could initiate or be an active passer
Love that the pistons got Fred Vinson "the Shot Doctor" as a shooting coach, same guy who fixed lonzos jumpshot and helped w trey Murphy and Herbert Jones so I'm optimistic his shot will improve
I remember watching ausar thompson harass SGA and i literally fell in love w him (i don't hate SGA i just love how he stuck to SGA like glue). it's just so hypnotizing. im glad u made this video.
I don't really care if he can't shoot; he can playmake with the ball, it's not like he's completely useless on offense. If he can be like Aaron Gordon while providing DPOY-level defense, any team in this league would be glad to have him.
The best wing defensive prospect I've ever seen. The things he does athletically are on another planet. He routinely makes the best athletes in the world look unathletic. Once his technique, strength and knowledge base catch up he's going to be so destructive. A blend of Alex Caruso, Scottie Pippen and Bobby Jones
side note on offense: I really hope JB encourages him to cut more. The Bucks (12:10) and Pacers (12:24) clips are perfect examples where he should be cutting. He also needs to attack off the catch and stampede. 12:37 if he drives off the catch he creates a wide open Sasser three. I really think he has enough tools on offense that he doesn't even need to be able to shoot if he's being aggressive downhill and setting more screens. Especially against double big lineups he needs to turn that space into DHO's for guys like Cade and Tech, the way Looney and Draymond do for Steph and company.
Seeing Ivey blossom it really makes me excited to see ausar, Duren, holland by the end of the 25-26 season these guys could really shape into a scary unit in the East. So much versatility offensively and defensively
Ausar might be one of the most interesting in this draft class because of his incredible defensive abilities for being 6’7” with a 7 foot wingspan. Great breakdown of Ausar❤
I want him and his brother to be so good so bad and I think they will. It’s about opportunity though and I hope Detroit gives him that. Even if he gets to being a average shooter, definitely a all star or just a star player in general
Do you think it’s essential that the pistons bring in an real stretch 5 since Ausar and Ron Holland might be their two best assets after Cade? I love Duren but I think I prefer him in a backup role unless he can improve his shot or his defense
@@Adbar10XD The problem is Cade _needs_ a rim runner because he isn't quick enough to beat guys off the dribble and get downhill. Look at Luka with KP/Kleber vs Lively/Gafford. Cade isn't Luka but shares a lot of similarities in terms of strengths (probing the defense to find the best option, shooting off the dribble) and weaknesses (lack of twitch and explosiveness) Dallas used to bench KP for Dwight Powell just to have a lob threat. Go watch how clunky Detroit's offense is with Stew instead of Wiseman or Duren or Bagley drawing a third defender. Ausar, Ron and Ivey would all be best suited to play with a stretch big in a Boston, OKC or Sacramento style system where they can use their athleticism to attack into an open paint but that doesn't play to Cade's strengths
@@michaelahurtI think it's a matter of playing with a *real* stretch big. He was really good his rookie season with Olynyk, who understood spacing principles. Stew moreso struggles with off ball movement stuff, so you get less chances to get the ball to him cleanly. There's also a chance to find a center that's a shooting threat and lob threat but I think that's less likely
@@scotty776 The problem is you still have two weaker shooters on the floor with Ron and Ausar. We just saw this with OKC. You put a wing on Chet and your big on the guy who can't shoot. Have fun playing iso. They _did_ look better with Olynyk. But he was also the only good -- hell the only average -- offensive big on the roster. (And they had positive shooting luck.) But it's not like Cade turned into Ja Morant. He had all the same physical limitations and issues getting to the rim and finishing. Cade, Luka, Trae, Booker, CP --- guys like that are able to use the lob threat to create better finishing angles for themselves in addition to tons of dunks for the big and wide open corner threes. Take away the lob threat and you can pretty easily wall them off because they just don't have the burst to turn the corner or the vertical pop to finish over bigs the way guys like Ja, Maxey, Fox, Ivey, etc can. If you watch all of Cade's finishing attempts with and without the lob threat it's pretty noticeable. Now if you put _four_ shooters around Cade ... well that's not happening if Ron And Ausar are 2 of your 4 best players. Another argument is that what's best for Cade isn't what's best for the team. Boston does this with Tatum. He's in a suboptimal role so the next 5 guys can be in optimal roles. Of course that strategy will be harder moving forward with the second apron and Boston's roster construction is basically a black swan event and not replicable
@@michaelahurt A lob threat is more of a luxury than a necessity, and it can't be Duren because his poor defense ruins any chance of winning no matter how many lobs he catches. And stretch 5s are the future anyway.
