The mouse was the real hero all along.
I mean, the prince risked his life to win a princess, and a kingdom... What was in it for the mouse? Pure selfless bravery!
Thank you Jordan for creating Prince of persia. You influenced my life so much with your work. I cannot express how much this means to me.
This little mouse was such a big thing to keep the game interesting (and, when I was young, frightening) - there was something new and unusual happening on every level that broke the established rules of the game! Whether it's a mirror appearing from nowhere, or the shadow sending you back into the dungeons, or you becoming trapped until the sudden appearance of a mouse - you could never tell what was going to happen. It's an exceptional game :)
This game was the first thing I ever saw in a color monitor.
One of my favorite video game characters ever. For a young child's mind (I was 7 I think when I first played it), seeing that little guy pop up to save me meant the world to me. Such a great use of an in-game cutscene.

@@antdude IIRC when Jordan Mechner was developing Karateka, his friend Tomi Pierce had sugested him to add a tiger, but he didn't added it. Years later she sugested him to add the mouse in Prince of Persia and Jordan didn't want to upset her this time.
It's been some time since I read the book The Making of Prince of Persia, so I might be forgetting something. But I think that's the story.

I'm Persian, and I have always loved the series when I was growing up. I was curious and would love to know where you've drawn inspiration from during the design phase of the original game. The architecture and patterns are spot on for a game made before the advent of the internet where one could draw reference.
Thank you! That's great to hear. Pretty much the only architecture reference I had at the time was a paperback book of the Alhambra in Spain. I didn't have any books about Persia (yet), but managed to squeak by...

All-time classic game! I swear, I was about to start cursing the first time I reached that dead end. I had no idea what to do, and then the little guy appeared. Thanks for the memory refresher!

О да, я помню этот моменты с мышонком. На какое то время даже подумал что попал в ловушку и придется начинать сначала. Какого было мое удивление, что меня спасет мышь. Сам уровень по своему сложный, много надо прыгать и не всегда получалась правильно рассчитать разгон. Спасибо от всех россиян за крутую и знаковую игру !!!

It is really good to see it Afterall 💓, and in the mobile version of prince of persia classic i see a rat saving the trapped prince by pressing a tile and opening the gate.

This is the *best* version of the game and all the other ones are not even close to the art and spirit involved into it, I'm sorry if I don't give enough credit to the Apple II version (which I came to know many years later).
