I could imagine Lao returning as a Siege equivalent to Kulve at the very least, a Lunastra-fied Lao would probably be really threatening. Basically a grandpa rathalos.
29:44 I think this was the second time I’ve ever heard Josh so angry in Pro and Noob because of Cotton saying about Lao running away from an older wingless Rathalos and he just lost the plot
I remember seeing this video the day it first came out, I was in a pretty bad place in my life, but you guys' videos always kept me going. It's so nice to see these old kids again, and se them in a new light.
if Lao returns in Wilds, let me pitch 3 tweaks for him. *1) the reason we fight him* so remember that Teostra and Gogmazios eat Gunpowder? remember that the latter attacked the Battlequarters because of it? similar case here. Lao Shan Lung eats ores and minerals, right? the fortress we fight him in - to be clear, not the same one in GU, but a different one with the same design and aesthetic - protects a mine that holds tonnes of them. he'd attack because of food, and the fort houses what is essentially a bouffet for Lao... but we need those materials to make Ballista Ammo, Cannons and Cannon Balls, and a Dragonator or two; because the NPCs know that we'll be fighting a lot of dragons. it'd be great if our base was a fort, similar to Dundorma. and it'd make more sense, because a fortress would need those ores for its weaponry. *2) a breath attack* yes, i know, i'm obsessed with breath attacks. mind hearing me out, now? so there's this channel called CR-Volcanic. he made a video titled "Let's make Lao Shan Lung fun" - which i recommend watching. to sum it up, he's suggesting to tighten the hallway the dragon walks through a bit, and make Lao Shan Lung be a cunning oppressive defense: driving back the hunters as they try to get him to expose his weakspot, his belly - which is why he insists on not rearing up on his hind legs; he's actively protecting it. in addition to not rearing up, he'd do sweeping bites, stomps, and try to impale hunters with his horn. imagine being scared to get close to Lao. the team would split in 2 teams: one would distract Lao by smacking him in the face with their weapons, the other would man the siege weapons. now you may ask "how does the breath attack fit into this?" those attacks i mentioned are when you're close to him. imagine him blasting you before you could even do that... and imagine him being smart enough to target the team on the fortress' ramparts. THAT'S how you make him scary. that's why i argue Lao should have a breath attack: he'd be smart enough to attack the hunters before they get close to him, and blast the hunters on the ramparts so that he'd only have to deal with the ones smacking his face. the breath attack would look like your breath during Winter (it's called "cold breath"), and it'd inflict Dragonblight. it makes some sense, as Lao's one of your first introductions to the Dragon element. far-fetched? let me remind you that Kushala Daora's stomp in SunRise inflicts it; and so does Fatalis' mere *bite.* look, i want to truly like this monster. *3) armour and weapons* starting with the armour, remember the General's? why didn't we get that?! let me fix that: so i was thinking of an armour set similar to the Guardian set, but with actual dragon scales which are vermilion in colour, and cream-colorued scales on the "belly." and the helmet would have two plates, similar to the ones on Lao's back; and let's add a small horn on the "nose"; and the visor would always be closed. finally, to top it off, a black cape with a red symbol of the Guild, like the flag in Lao's old intro in FU. as for the weapons, give him all 14 types! keep GU's weapon designs like the GS, and give him the Online weapons like the SnS. i want Lao Shan Lung's armour and weapons to make the hunter look like a dragonslayer. come on, the Great Sword is literally called that AND it looks the part! the other weapons in GU look the part, too. don't you want the armour and the missing weapons to be like that, too? just imagine this: Lao Shan Lung's armour, a set with the skills to counter Elder Dragons... i'd kill for that to become a reality. *addendum:* it's the day after i wrote this; i had a coincidentally fitting dream last night. i was scaling a ladderless wall of a fortress build inside a mountain, resembling the camp from pre-Iceborne Castle Schrade; that wall lead to a window - wasn't that high a climb. outside the window was a narrow mountain pass, with narrow ramparts on the other side, if i recall. and to my right, a giant, reddish dragon was marching towards my position. it looked like a mix of Lao Shan Lung, and the Foreverwing from Dragons Rise of Berk; but it mostly resembled Lao Shan Lung with the head of the Foreverwing, and without the underbite. i fired imaginary arrows with an imaginary bow (i repeat: it's a dream. very strange logic applies there; don't judge me), and when the beast reared up on its hind legs, it tried to blast me with its breath attack, which looked exactly as i described it here. i ducked inside the window and hung onto the wall to avoid it. it tried to blast me twice. i think it was after the second blast and after shooting it a few more times did the dream either change or end. a strange coincidence that i dreamt of the thing i wrote here.
It's actually not a theory that Lao-Shan Lung is running for its life through the Fortress! In MHGU, the culprit is Ahtal-Ka's mech Ahtal-Neset as stated during the lead-up to the Ahtal-Ka urgent quest. Fatalis's section in *Dive to MHW:IB* mentions how Lao-Shan Lung was fleeing from it, a reference to the 1st game's Fatalis quest progression where an NPC mentions that Lao-Shan Lung must've been fleeing from the Black Dragon. This is also noted to be the only instance of a Monster fleeing from Fatalis before the Fatalis Event itself where Elder Dragons as a whole have been disappearing.
I know most of you guys would disagree with me on this, but Lao Shan Lung would be a good fit for MH Wilds. Like just imagine him letting you climb on him without him attacking you at all, but that's unless you'd attack him first.
I think the point to consider about "why did they build a village in the middle of this path" is that it probably is one of the safest spot they could find. Its the monster hunter world so monsters are gonna be everywhere, but at least dundurma is protected from most sides so they only have to worry about the rare giants monsters occasionally trying to cross through the pathway compared to other villages which have to worry about being assaulted by anything from just any direction.
Lao isn't actually running from something. In MHFU it's explained that the mountain pass where the fortress is built is actually his migration path. The city (not village) was built in a clearing in that pass because reasons, only for the guild to realize that Giant mountain dragon made that pass on its way to its mating grounds, because Lao only makes this trip every 150 years or so. In the old games there is actually a separate path that Lao will take if repelled. The guild made a special path for it that went around the city, to the other end.
generations lao was actually a pretty fun siege on the level of seige kulve taroth (not master rank) in terms of gameplay both are cool and fun first time but gets kinda tedious on repeat playthroughs
As the end of all battles fatalis who has destroyed all monster hunter dragons than fatalis soon gets hit in the back as fatalis falls to the ground fatalis looks back and see's a old lao shan lung fatalis uses his fire breath but it does nothing as the old lao shan lung gets closer fatalis backs up and his tail gets stepped on as fatalis looks back he see's a another lao shan lung then another and another and another as fatalis was serenaded as fatalis was about to use his fire breath the old lao shan lung grab's his neck as fatalis looks at the old lao he crush he's neck as a pool of blood comes out of fatalis mouth and eyes and nose as the hunters look at fatalis body get eaten by the lao shan lung's as the hunters say looks like some one is on top of the food chain now as the lao shan lung's roar to the sky
thats the point back then he's just big and he doesn't actively attack much because he's too busy migrating away from fatalis they could just bring back shen goaren which they could do alot more with in terms of abilities and interesting fight instead of mostly relying on how fun the siege equipment and map is in lao shanlung's case
IN THIS GAP BETWEEN DARK CRABS, I CONTINUE CALLING UPON THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN IT BEING COTTON MAXIMUS TIBERIUS CRABBANE'S DESTINY TO PERSONALLY PLAY CRUSTACEOS (yes, crustaceos) SOULS FOR US AND USHER IN THE AGE OF BUBBLES AND SALT BAND TOGETHER AS WE ONCE DID TO LET HIM WATCH RISE MONSTER INTROS!🐌🦀🐟🦀🩷 (especially those people who watched the video before I got the comment down)
Oh man I love grandpa ratha.
"I don't get upset at people for not knowing things I hate, I want them to like them"
Cotton is gold.
Cotten is diamon
I could imagine Lao returning as a Siege equivalent to Kulve at the very least, a Lunastra-fied Lao would probably be really threatening. Basically a grandpa rathalos.
I know what you mean by lunastra-fied but now I can't not imagine Lao in like a lunastra costume or something lol
29:44 I think this was the second time I’ve ever heard Josh so angry in Pro and Noob because of Cotton saying about Lao running away from an older wingless Rathalos and he just lost the plot
“I get large in bed.” and “I was thinking about some old men.”

I got lucky and saw this when it dropped! I have been watching this channel for years. Here's to many more.
Honestly, back in the day when I watched this it was quite entertaining but rewatching it again now... I forgot how chaotic Cotton's first Lao was 😂
I remember seeing this video the day it first came out, I was in a pretty bad place in my life, but you guys' videos always kept me going. It's so nice to see these old kids again, and se them in a new light.

look, i want to truly like this monster.
*3) armour and weapons*
starting with the armour, remember the General's? why didn't we get that?! let me fix that:
so i was thinking of an armour set similar to the Guardian set, but with actual dragon scales which are vermilion in colour, and cream-colorued scales on the "belly." and the helmet would have two plates, similar to the ones on Lao's back; and let's add a small horn on the "nose"; and the visor would always be closed.

16:38 I can see it and I'm scared the Commander just has body pillows of Dragonaters in his room.

Lao being a very old Rathalos or a close relative whose wings have regressed because he got too big to lift himself is my favourite MH theory
Why is the Lao turning back segment so good. The animation of that clip is hilarious. These stock image animation segments are always so good.
Josh turned into super kami guru!!! Cotton..... I see a bird ..... go kick its ass!!😂
He is Absolutely an old Rathalos.
I know most of you guys would disagree with me on this, but Lao Shan Lung would be a good fit for MH Wilds. Like just imagine him letting you climb on him without him attacking you at all, but that's unless you'd attack him first.
i agree; even figured how to make his quest better - assuming you want me to tell you.

7:40 PAPA RATHALOS!!!😂😂😂
(still one of your best moments❤)
Yes the Grandpa Rathalos episode
A grandpa Rathalos would be awesome! A Rathalos with a beard and so much experience he could tussle with elder dragons!
That’s basically guardian ratha from stories 2.
If he’s not Grandpa Rathalos, what is he? Maybe he’s a fish?🐟
30:11 beedle whenever you visit his shop in skyward sword.
"You guys have annoyed me! I'd rather DIE then deal with this!"

Lao Shen Long confirmed for old Rathalos

If you make a Rathalos iceberg video before the fish documentary, we will actually riot!🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
82 Proobs in and there is still no Fish or not Fish documentary 🐟
Can't wait for the shark lance video.

"Everything has eyes" - meanwhile Khezu: . . .
I just realised that the armour from Mr Lao here, is the exact same as the layered armour you get from KT in world
15:15 I honestly can't tell if they have a good friendship or a bad friendship.
We need to see cottons first gravios.
We must see the Birth of CRABBANE!
1:51
This sounds so bad💀
Cotton now has to give us FISH DOCUMENTARY and RATHALOS OR NOT RATHALOS
Pappie rathalos sees the light once more
It was great when Cotton’s face used to be purple.
I still stand by saffi looks more like an old Rathalos.
Lao: what’s this big ball on fire heading right towards me? 💥 if this game was real then that’s the equivalent of a nuke
Currently watching MH Stories anime and it is ok. Man how did Cotton said that?
what layerd hammer is cotton using
Mr tourg woud be so proud cotton
Im going to give an opinion that will solve the debate perfectly.
Its an old safi jiva.
Wanna know what would be great. Green Lao Shan Lung. And make it comically the lady version. Just to fuck with Josh.
2:07 What is this horrid concept you speak of? Who would want this ‘conversation’ rather than just stay in safety of their home like a normal person?
Where is grandma rathian
Also great video guys
Good soup.
God how could they even fix Lao? It’s just so… basic and boring a fight. He has no abilities, he’s just big and strong.
thats the point back then he's just big and he doesn't actively attack much because he's too busy migrating away from fatalis they could just bring back shen goaren which they could do alot more with in terms of abilities and interesting fight instead of mostly relying on how fun the siege equipment and map is in lao shanlung's case
CR-Volcanic addresses that in the video titled "how to make Lao Shan Lung fun".
28:20 - Nope. An NPC in MH1 straight up says Lao is running from the "Legendary Black Dragon".
This Lao in particular is running from Ahtal-Nesto.
