this song was written about leandoer's experience, and his overdose, that he had in miami. he had been suffering with substance abuse for a while but he had finally gone 'crazy' and almost killed himself. bladee (another artist that lean is close with) has spoken about how afraid he was of him, how it was almost like an entirely different person inside of lean. many lyrics in this song are about his time, struggling with hallucinations and overall paranoia. another aspect of these lyrics are about how the psychosis affected his relationships and views people have on him. if you want to learn more, the yung lean documentary explains it in way more detail than i have, and also is an overall good watch. (love the video
he was on a drug trip in miami and thought he was dying so he called his manager in a panic. his manager was rushing over to his place and died in a car crash on his way to lean. this is what started everything
That is the backstory of Lean's song "Miami Ultras" not the backstory of "Agony". The backstory of "Agony" is that Lean arrived back at his Dad’s house in Sweden after being in a psychiatric unit.
For me this song perfectly encapsulates Yung Lean's persona and why he is such a unique artist. This is a song written by someone at his lowest low, you can feel the sadness and darkness of what he had to go through (drug abuse, mental hospitals, the death of Barron...) and yet he managed to make something so beautiful out of it. It's sad, of course it is, but it's hopeful, out of the darkest places he managed to create beauty for others to relate to, a beam of hope for others that are struggling. I have come back to this song plenty of times over the years, when things were not going great for me, and it always feels like a hug from a friend, comforting, you can cry here, there is no judging, it's okay to suffer for a bit now, it will pass, there is still hope, if he made it, you can too. I'm not Yung Lean biggest fan by any means, but he's influence and uniqueness as an artist can't be understated, this song will always make me so glad he survived the struggles that come with fame as such an early age (he was just a random kid from Sweden that blew up on the internet when he was 16, after all) and can still deliver such powerful and original art to this day. PS: You should read the article that The Fader did on him around this time ( it's titled "Yung Lean’s Second Chance"), it provides great context for what was going on in his life while recording this song.
Once the pandora's box is opened it's really difficult to go back. It is not just the rawness of the vocals, the sound, the subject matter. Everything he puts out, be it a project or a performance, feels so visceral and so real. I really recommend watching the documentary on vice's channel. I also recommend listening to the whole of stranger and his Jonatan Leandoer projects. Also shouts out to DJ Poolboi
on a similar yet somewhat happier vibe you could listen to "bender++girlfriend", otherwise "miami ultras", "boylife in the eu", "red bottom sky" and "blue plastic" are in my opinion perfect songs to get into yung lean's music
I always love watching reaction videos to this song. This song has gotten me through some of the lowest points of my life. Thank you for this video I hope you two continue to grind and grow together!
Yung Lean a legend my dude started a whole movement I can tell you like 25 rappers that adopted his style I really enjoyed the Yung lean documentary you learned so much about him but so much about the new hip hop genre to be a Yung lean fan you really got to know how to interpret a lot of his metaphors... he's not a bar rapper he's a metaphor rapper a deep hybrid conscience rapper
I loved this reaction! I am a big fan of Yung Lean's music, and I found your reaction to be similar to my own upon first hearing this song. Lots of commenters have mentioned the song being about his psychosis, but I believe that it is also a response to the death of his good friend, which happened the night he experienced the psychotic episode. I hear it (especially the first verse) as an apology to his friend, and how his grief at the time was overshadowed by his psychotic break. As he healed, he had a whole other battle to fight. The White Ferrari comparison was also spot on, as Yung Lean briefly appears on Blonde (although it is debated how much his voice actually appears throughout the tracklist). The Spooky Black shout out at the end was a surprise too! Without You is wonderful, but I would check out Mourn, an LP he released as Corbin. A reaction to that album would be wonderful! Thank you for this review! I forget about this song sometimes, so it was nice to come back to.
All of drain gang (ik yung lean isnt dg, still a frequent collaborator and close friends with them) has always been able to express emotions and feelings in beautiful ways through their music. Thank god that they are an independent group and have their own creative ruling. I dont know yall at all, but i suggest listening to ecco2k's verse from stillborn/reprise, its what ive been on recently!
You guys should react to ab soul "the book of soul". It's about his relationship with his girlfriend who tragically took her life. It's a great, really depressing song
I love how u guys dont pause the music and ruin the experience, a lot of RUclipsrs do that when they react to music, I appreciate y'all for not doing that!
If you know why he wrote this and saw him explain it. It makes you want to cry. You can truly feel the sadness, confusion and overall chaos of what he went through. It's very intense
For a similar sad/depressed track id recommend Hotel in Minsk or Winter by Bladee and Thaiboy Digital, a more fun kind of track by lean could be Butterfly Paralyzed and you should definetely check out Hennessy and Sailor Moon
Sppoky Black actually changed his stage name to Corbin and released a bunch of new music. I think you would especially like the track Revenge Song by Corbin, really fits this vibe as well. You should check it out i would love a reaction to that.
Yung Lean is my nr.1 favorite artist. I might be biased cause he's from Stockholm just like me, but he's just SO open and unforgivingly himself. He created a sound for early genZs with depression, which is most of us lol. It's so unique and the production is always amazing. He's inspiring because he has been through so much, but he got through it and came out a wiser and better person. I hope you listen to more stuff from him. He's got bangers, and songs to make you cry
yung lean similar vibes i thonk youd like-hotel in minsk, yellowman, never again, hunting my own skin, girlfriend/bender, wooden girl, also check out bladee and ecco2k- girls just wanna have fun!
Has Molly listened to Lil Ugly Mane - volcanic bird enemy and the voiced concern? I feel like she would really like the production on that album. Maybe not the most requested album in your comments lol but even just in your own time i think its worth a listen :)
I sent the live Wermland version to my wife recently and she said "he can't sing, I hate it". I was honestly really disappointed but I guess I get it that most people don't understand it.
i'm kinda yung lean fan and i really want to recomend to listen smirnoff ice, hennessy and Sailor Moon, trashy, Low, this songs giving more ambient and "agony" vibes, but he has lots of other great songs like hurt, muddy sea, yellowman, bender++girlfriend, chinese restaurant, lazy summer day, etc, you should probably listen to some of his tracks🙏🙏
Would love to hear you guys listen through Bon Iver's masterpiece '22, A Million'. It's a genre-less epic listen that completely flew under the radar since most people know him either through his folk pop hit 'skinny love' or through his collab with Taylor Swift. It has a similar jarring eclecticism reminiscent of Frank Ocean's Blonde, and his music writing process shows it, as he writes the music first, and adds the lyrics in last, so the song is built around the song itself.
Never heard of young lean but I like the song! And going to listen to spooky black now. Missed a few vids.. are you guys still listening to albums or mostly songs now? Maybe try some lil peep. He has some great tracks
we should be back to albums next wk! we've just had a pretty busy schedule lately so thought we'd offer some songs in the meantime. thanks for watching ✌🏼

@@frikk7368 i can understand that, but i definitely feel like both songs can be portrayed in this way.
his friend Baron also died@@threestarrainworld
@@frikk7368 yeah but this is why he was in the unit in the first place so the song made after getting out is definitely based on that experiance
the whole album is really beautiful with the last 2 tracks being a two-hit ko to your heart
i would even say the last three, the transitions between those just hit
Last 3*
I love yellowman
nice pfp

this song makes me cry without fail every time man
These random singles you've been doing have been fun. Some unexpected picks and definitely different to what everyone else reacts to
pls watch his documentary to get to know him better, this song is hitting even harder after all he experienced

I adore you, the sound of your skin!!! 🎶💔😭🎶💔😭🎶💔😭🎶💔😭🎶💔😭

Was gonna comment this, amazing bone chilling song, he sounds so in control and about to break down at the same time
One of the best Hip-Hop songs of all time. Straight up.
Your mama told me read the Book Of Job
I love how u guys dont pause the music and ruin the experience, a lot of RUclipsrs do that when they react to music, I appreciate y'all for not doing that!

Its iconic how she said how it reminded her of white ferrari since leandoer plays the vocals on it
If you haven't already you gotta listen to Tell Me by Corbin (spooky black) one of the best intro songs to a album I've heard in a long time
we love yung lean
Bro you got to do Yung Lean ft Travis Scott - Ghosttown. It’s a sonic experience
Sppoky Black actually changed his stage name to Corbin and released a bunch of new music. I think you would especially like the track Revenge Song by Corbin, really fits this vibe as well. You should check it out i would love a reaction to that.

Also just started listening to young lean

Archie, It would be interesting if you reacted to some songs or albums that Molly picks for you too. Please, think about it! ☺️
hey we actually considered it but we pretty much listen to the same stuff outside of hip hop. if an idea comes to mind we will definitely do it!
yung lean actually was a big inspiration for frank ocean so makes sense why they could have similarities.
Has Molly listened to Lil Ugly Mane - volcanic bird enemy and the voiced concern? I feel like she would really like the production on that album. Maybe not the most requested album in your comments lol but even just in your own time i think its worth a listen :)
It's like a window into his mind
Yung lean literally the greatest artist of all time
She correlates good songs with eachother.
She said it reminds her of white Ferrari, he actually on Godspeed by frank ocean
you should definitely check out hennessy & sailor moon by yung lean and bladee if you liked mellow lean

Please do a whole album review on stranger, yung lean also got an amazing documentary about his upbringing in the rap scene! Great video earned a sub!
I sent the live Wermland version to my wife recently and she said "he can't sing, I hate it". I was honestly really disappointed but I guess I get it that most people don't understand it.
Yeah it’s very hard to like yung lean for most people because he is so different it’s kind of disappointing like you said
drain gang forever
Thanks for that reaction. Would recommend Joji - YEAH RIGHT
Spooky black doesn't go by that name anymore he goes by corbin should definitely listen to his recent stuff
You should watch the in my head documentary on yung lean together
i like how she compared it to white farreri!
Beautiful song
React to more yung lean and react to lil peep
funny that you mentioned blonde, because lean has a cameo on the song self control
You should watch the Vice documentary about yung lean
that desription is on whole another level hehe
It’s funny she said it reminded her of white Ferrari considering lean helped frank with blonde haha
the remix is the best but both are fire
the white ferrari similarities is spot on
