In this challenge, I created Pokémon Legends Arceus so Nintendo doesn't have to! Nintendo revealed a new trailer for the game last week. But since I'm impatient, if I want to play the game now I have to make it myself.
My brother and I created terrain, added every Pokémon in existence (yes really), and built Spear Pillar with a final Arceus battle. And if you're super lucky, if you defeat Arceus a Shiny Arceus will spawn to battle you!
The game was created using Blender and Unity C#. We hope you enjoy this video while we wait for Nintendo to release Pokemon Legends Arceus.

Yeah, this was super ambitious. XD
this made me realize that all the code and script you need to make an open world Pokemon is already available in the internet created by thousand of different players. WOW
not the first time it's been done either lol there's a let's go recoded in unity, Pokemon sword recoded in unity, The only thing you literally really need is the Pokemon objects and sprites/3d models, The rest is up to your creativity in mind

And no the movement code, battle code, animations, vfx, terrain, catching system, 3d models for buildings, and anything you might want to add to the game to make it more fun like rocksmash breaking boulders, flying pokemon being able to carry you, swimming pokemon being able to carry you, quest system or storyline. It takes a lot to make a fun pokemon game and people don't realize how much work game freak are doing to put pokemon legends Arceus out on time. This also make it even more impressive how this one guy made animations and a catching system in only a few weeks.
The platinum reboot no one asked for, but we all needed

To clarify what this guy did in terms a five year old would understand: Gamefreak gave him a puzzle and he put it together. He can't release the download because Gamefreak made the puzzle.

Indie means individual developer. I am pretty sure Game Freak is not an indie studio :P

This should be a real pokemon game, its crazy how well you did this and how much time you took to do this. All of the details animations and everything is just amazing. I would be WAY too lazy to ever make something as amazing as this.

Remember, as impressive as this is, this is not even half (or even a quarter) of what goes into a complete game. A mock game is a lot faster to make than a real(complete) one. They had fun making this, and weren't trying to do better than gamefreak.
In fact they seem to be looking forward to the game.

I hate videos like this -_- If this is what a passionate fan can do with some help then why can't a multi billion dollar company go above and beyond?
I love the franchise, I love the games, but this is about to be 2022. Nintendo should be absolutely blowing away everybody's mind. They should be paying attention to every little detail such as leaving footsteps in the sand or snow, grass blowing depending on the wind, and more.
Big props to you guys for doing this!
Pokemon was never about graphics or this open-world bullshit. It was about battle and variety.
If anything, I wish they went back to 2d(B&W) and leave the 3d stuff to stadium games.

Actually, Pokémon: Legends Arceus isn’t an open world game! They’re just very large wild areas. If it was open world there wouldn’t be a loading screen and you could walk straight out into the wild areas from the towns.

This is honestly a really cool video. Shows how much work needs to go into game development, even for a “simple” recreation. I totally get the want for Legends: Arceus so much that you just make the game yourself. So excited for when it releases!

I thought it was another Developer: Regardless) it looks like utter trash, compared to many other things done on the switch. This game looks like Shadows of the Colosseum....a GAMECUBE game... Gamefreak should give up the rights to Pokemon to some other company capable of actually driving the franchise in the direction it should have been going in, 10 years ago.
This game is what Pokemon Sword and Shield SHOULD have been.
It looks cool, but it feels dead and low polish, with barely any effort put into it, other than just copy pasting some resources and spending a few days making the map look nice from far away.

First things first this is impressive work.
Now for everyone saying that oh it shows how incompetent gamefreak is.
1. The small size of the team working on this project is actually a benefit. As more people are added onto the team efficiency decreases mostly due to the nature of assigning projects and getting clarification that the created assets are what are wanted for the project.
2. The majority of this concept was pulled from an existing idea and recreated. Storylines, basics of the campaign, concepts for how everything is going to interact and UI optimization was basically copied from gamefreak. These are all time consuming processes which this team had significantly minimized for this project that can at times take months if not years.
3. This is an alpha built. It proves the concept and can work for demonstrations but it has not gone through extensive testing to verify everything works as intended. Bugs and glitches can be found in any game. But without the testing of alpha and beta builds a significant amount more would be breaking the big title games we love to play. Just look at pokemon red as an example of a glitch mess compared to later generations where glitches are much rarer.
Small team is a benefit? That's something new. Gamefreak isn't an indie company with an incompetent group of programmers that don't know how to work together. Also Gamefreak is a million dollar company with a fanbase that will buy any trash they can put out, so they clearly have all the resources they need.

It is actually a rule in programming teams that as you gain more people on a project the man hours becomes less efficient because there are less people to get on the same page for work. Skill level doesn't matter for this statistic. The issue is basically the bureaucracy that becomes involved as the group increases in size.
This is actually amazing and I see you both worked incredibly hard on this. The skies the limit.

Arceus looks so godamn menacing, I love it. The outer space background for spear pillar, makes that place so other worldly. Also, the the spear pillar gameplay, is literally what I would imagine if I encountered dialga, palka and arceus in a 3d world.

you did a really nice job, also i think i need to say to people who don't know exactly how works a development process of a game, it is something much more complex than get models and animations taken from other games and put them in a terrain, specifically to Legend Arceus they will have to deal with things like: setup hundreds of pokemon animators to work properly, concepts, AI, UI/UX, storytelling, art style, shaders, menus, structure models, characters models and rigging/animations, textures, cutscenes, dialogs, game mechanics, sound design, music, bug test, optimization to runs well in a switch, marketing, certification and other regulations...
If it were easy, there would be thousands of complete games similar or even greater than pokemon on the market, TemTem or any other pokemon-like would have taken the pokemon company's audience, but that hasn't happened yet.
TemTem is better in every way though. It's only that pokemon has too many fans

You're forgetting the fact that they used a ton of community shared information and didn't go through the trouble to polish the game, this is essentially pre-alpha state, while the company developing Arceus has created new regional forms, developed the whole map, naming systems, plot, polishing, crafting ect., the polishing of the game probably took a year on it's own, it is impressive nonetheless

And if the entire employees were like them (but more intelligent in polishing the game, new regional forms story blah blah blah) I am pretty sure we would get every single game a few months before what it's supposed to (like being 2 months ahead)
@@cristiano7541 It took 2 people, whatever amount of time, to put this together in Unity, using assets that are littered across the internet, as I said earlier, they didn't polish anything either, they also used the 3DS models, not the Switch models and textures, that's only slightly impressive, I'm not saying it didn't take a lot of effort to put it together, what I am saying is that you can't say it was only those 2 that did the work, they very clearly say that they "steal" and "borrow" almost everything that they did, you're forgetting that GF develops the maps by hand without an automatic script, sure, they do have a whole library of models and animations that are far higher resolution than what any system will ever need, but all of these decisions need to be made and approved as a whole, it's not just one person's decision with the real game, again, I'm not saying that it's not hard work, all I'm saying is that you can't say that it was just them when they're literally taking Game Freak's puzzle and putting it together.

Don't you just hate it when people think Nintendo manages Pokemon when actually a second party developer that has the name of the developer shows up in the opening of every Pokemon game?
I wouldn't call the look "incredible" but when you think about the fact, that this was accomplished by two brothers with no funds...it makes the Pokémon Company look even more ridiculous. The amount of work that went into this video hurts my brain.
Still going to play the actual game in the end though.

They use the unity game engine which is free for everyone they also stole a bunch of code and models. The graphics are even an lower-quality and the move animations suck compared to the real ones. There are no other characters but you and therefore there is no story,dialogue, unique or special interactions with other NPCs, the Pokemon don't have as complex interactions as they do in the real one, they didn't make models for the newer Pokemon because it's harder than doing landscapes, there was no events like mystery gift, no trainer battles, I couldn't say that it was only in English because there's not even any text but if there was it would only be in English, and there are no translations for other languages. Then there's the matter of fixing bugs doing specialized animations for all Pokemon and moves. There were a lot of shortcuts taken and a lot of free assets and services used. There's a lot behind the scenes and you can't just say because they didn't have funding they're better than Nintendo and they make them look ridiculous, I actually didn't name everything there's a lot more they didn't do. All I'm asking is that you give Nintendo the respect they deserve, instead of deciding not to think rationally and ignoring the games. They may be a multibillion-dollar franchise but you're forgetting there's much more than the core series games. There's the trading card game,the anime,merchandise like posters,bed coverings and pillows, plushies,spin-off games,and then there's the money they need for advertising which they need to do all over the world. Look at how much better brilliant Diamond and shining Pearl looks than this and it was made with the unity game engine but even they spent more time on it then these two did. If you refuse to think rationally and gift Pokemon the respect they deserve then I have no choice but to mute your responses.
What could the average citizen possibly know about game design and maintaining a multi-billion-dollar company. That fact coupled with everything I mentioned and Pokemon has a ticket for people to cut them a break.
