Thanks to this video's recommendation, I just successfully installed this over the weekend on my 2005 4Runner paired with a pioneer Avh-2300 head unit. A few lessons learned from my install:
-This camera's features made it possible to install on the 4Runner while other cameras were problematic. I purchased a less expensive camera first and failed in my installation of that because 1) The other camera didn't have enough cable length to get from the front through to the lift gate and 2) The other camera's connectors were two large to fit through the lift gate boot. This camera had enough cable (2' leftover) and the connectors are tiny enough to fit though any opening.
- When I first installed this Echomaster camera, I was getting the black screen when I shifted into reverse and couldn't figure out the problem. I thought I had a poor wire connection tapping into the accessory wire and ground wire. It turned out that the black plug connecting the two video cable segments behind the dash (highlighted at 3:05 in the video) wasn't fully mated between the female and male ends. There's no tactile or audible indication in the connector to let you know you're fully connected. There's also a sheath covering the connection so you can't visually confirm the connection. Unplugging and replugging the segments of video cable fixed it! I was so close to having to go to local auto accessories store to fix it.
I hope other people are able to do the install right the first time (unlike me)!
This is a great backup camera solution. I have looked at a lot of BUC and this is much sleeker than most all of the ones I have seen out there.
Just bought it. 5 Star installed it. Very happy with the camera so far.
another great stereo video from you guys .... well done !!!!
Nice, Fernando has the same Rockford Fosgate shirt as me!
+Five Star Car Audio
Thanks for the detailed overview and real-world demo! You convinced me to spend the extra cash for this particular backup camera. I'm all about using top quality products when I can, especially if they are well-designed, perform great, and most importantly...make installation easier! 👍👍
Thank you for this video. I purchased this camera and installed it this past weekend. It looks and performs great! Easy to install thanks to your videos. Thanks again!
Where did u order it from jw
@@jrwagner6700 I ordered it from Amazon through the link the provide in their description
How the video quality?
I'm adding a backup camera to a 2010 Toyota Camry with a pioneer avh-1300nex I'm confused with the trigger wire. Then trigger wire is hooked up to the green wire from the wiring harness on the stereo unit?
Nice camera
Zip ties are the best for running wires through boots. AC zip ties are awesome. must have for any installer. great video.
+David Heston I know right, they are awesome
Thanks so much I finally get it 😃
What do you recommend for guys like me who don't want it in the license plate? Thanks
Great and thanks for the info looking for a good backup camera.. keep it coming the info videos!! 👍😋
+Edrick Flores Mendez thank you
Took your recommendation. Didn't want cube hanging on back somewhere, and '09 Sonata old enough to not be prepped for camera. Didn't want to drill holes in sheet metal, went thru right tag light which happened to be right over wire from camera. Hardest part was rear seat to deck lid wiring Agree that since have to run wires front to back, just use backup lamp as trigger. Nice addition to 4200NEX. Would like to have had dynamic lines, but tag cam best solution for me.
Echomaster website says replacement is CAM-LFDPLB. Does the new camera have a 3-piece harness with the tiny plug that squeezes through rubber boots?
Excellent video. My wife would love one of these, but she needs a new radio to accommodate that...the list of things continues to grow.
+kd7kmp it is never ending
kd7kmp tell me about it just started on my wife's.. funny thing is now I want to be in her car since she has all these cool gadgets on her radio lol
thanks guys y'all been very helpful this morning. answer any questions I mite had to ask lol piece of cake B-)
Malcom Williams thank you
I watch every video yall upload. very informative
Nelda Cardenad thank you very much
Are Echo Master & Boyo license plate frame camera the same ?
Has anyone ever tried the NATIKA back up camera IP69K, it has really great reviews on amazon, just wondering how it is to install
Do you have a update of your favorite backup camera for 2021/2022?? I went to Amazon and it's no longer available.
What other camera do you recommend with the backup ñines?
Is this kind universal? Can fit to pioneer DMH series??
Is this camera compatible with Honda's Infotainment system?
This model has been discontinued and seems impossible to find now. The "replacement" model according to EchoMaster is CAM-LFDPLB, which I've found at a few different sites for around $150.
If you have a pick up and you are going to be running your wires along your frame or even through the frame rail I suggest running the wires through vacuumed tubing! It will protect your wires a lot better than wire loom!
wow I was just thinking of a back up camera ideal for a possible walled build and guess who popped up on my cell talking about the same topic lol
+Malcom Williams perfect timing, finally
I keep getting "Clear Disc Space" message, but can't find anything in manual or online on how to do that...
Question: Say I hook up my camera to accessory instead of the reverse light positive which I can go into "camera view" on my Pioneer head unit. Would I have to go into my settings each time I put the car in reverse???
Mister X no just connect the Pioneer Purple white wire to the the reverse light trigger. That will activate it when in reverse
What's the difference between the EchoMaster and BOYO? Look identical with identical wire loom, and BOYO is made in Korea.
Have you checked out the Rydeen HD? It might sway your opinion. They have a license plate adaptor too. Also have a higher end camera with different viewing modes.
lol those hands been through hell
+Alpha Omega yeah, I cut the top of my hand right before shooting, kind of sucked
What kind of connectors are you using?
When you connect to power on the harness are you connecting to accessory or constant?
+tam
You connect it to "Switched Power" which is "Accessory" or "ACC". If you connected it to constant power it would drain your battery...albeit very, very slowly.
I'd like you guys to talk more about image quality, resolution, back up guide lines and such.
+victor giraud
99% of the touchscreen displays in Double-DIN Head Units are only 800 x 480 resolution, so there's not a large disparity between the resolution of most of the common backup cameras that are available.
Only a few of the brand new 2018 Kenwood eXcelon Reference stereos have an HD screen. So unless you have one of those 2 HU's, the camera resolution really doesn't matter that much.
However, overall image quality and low-light performance can be very different among the different backup cameras, with CCD types generally being superior.
No longer available. The new model (CAM-LFDPLB-N) is .1 lux and has dynamic parking lines. However, the lines do not match the turn very well, from the one and only review on Amazon. Also, it's $153, and even higher on ebay @ $175. I think I'll stick with the one you installed on the yellow Vette, the PCAM-150-N @ $50 less with the same .1 lux and selectable/adjustable parking lines.
Does anyone know if the Pioneer AVHX3800BHS has the feature to display custom back up lines?
+thejoseandresshow no it does not
Any update on this for 2020? What's the best backup camera now?
Yea I'm tryna figure out too
Just wondering, is this still your favorite camera or is there another one you prefer?
how to install on Toyota Camry 2009
That's a steep price for analog backup camera. Any chance you guy's could do a review/test our for the Echomaster Cam-LB1B-N.
Hector Nava we do have it, I will add it to the list.
Five Star Car Stereo That's great, hope to see it soon. Wish I lived closed to you guys so I could buy it, let you guys install it and let you guys make a video out of it.
Mine came with those little red wires, not the same one you're using
Damn, would love to buy one but it doesn't come in Silver.... I dechromed my car, and Black will look out of place. I'll probably buy the Black one later and spray paint it to my car's Silver color code when I have the time....
+J Silver it yeah just black and Crome
Wow,
By the look of Dean`s hand, he`s been in a cat fight.
CDP thankfully no more cats in my house
Bump on an old thread. This video is now 6 years old. Can you let us know what your reccomendation is now for the best after market backup camera?
See lot of wires not ladled I no idea which is power or revers wire triger ba k of head unit some say it's 3 wire of power plug not other plugs pink or brown I find out
what about installation for factory radios?
Marcos Reyes depends on the car? What do you have
Five Star Car Stereo 2012 toyota camry se. I know it has the factory connection for backup camera, but does pac mame a retention harness for aftermarket backup cameras?
+Marcos Reyes
I'm late to the party, but 99% of these backup cameras, no matter if they are OEM Factory or aftermarket, use a simple composite video signal via a standard RCA connector. And even if the video signal connector isn't the RCA type, it is still most likely to be a standard composite video signal using two wires for video signal, and two wires for power. Some just operate on 5-6 volts DC instead of 12vdc.
You said f@*ktion at 17:46. 😂😂😂😂
+Adam Moore yeah, I thought that sounded a little funny too
Subliminal messages in your show.
Do you have a new favorite? This seems to be discontinued.
If da camera has led lites on it u can't use da radio functions only in reverse
The power port on the monitor is the weak link. Had 2 in 2years, both ports were the failure point. They both failed exactly one year after purchase, when the warranty ran out.
Even with the filter video distortion was a regular occurrence. Beware..
phewwww that camera is so grainy in the dark considering the 259 price tag thats not acceptable in my opinion. Heck the reverse cam i have on my work truck in complete darkness is like day time no grainy video nice and sharp.
+Tt Ss it was with one white LED shining on a wall 25 feet away from it. The camera filming it is what is causing all the gain I had to turn the ISO up all most all the way to see the screen.
+Tt Ss
Dude, C'mon, that was with just One or Two TINY, single battery-powered LED lights! The Reverse Lights on your truck or any vehicle are 100 Times Brighter! It's a good backup camera...trust me, I've tried and used a ton of them.
I got all excited to buy a nice setup until I seen the price . OUCH
+Ed Yager yes I believe we sell it for $139.it is worth it if you want a great camera
@@FiveStarCarStereoInc Is there a comparable cheaper camera you would recommend? Also, do I need to replace my OEM radio ( toyota sienna 2010), and if so, any recommendations?
Thank you!.. great video
@@currom depends on if your factory radio has a screen capable of video or not, if you have dvd and or navigation you should be able to integrate. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
$183 ?
Sorry to say but no camera is worth $183. Back up camera shouldn't exceed more than 100 AT MOST.
+mark0101
Normally I would agree, but if you are installing a backup camera yourself, this one will make your life a Whole Lot Easier, and it will keep you from possibly damaging other important factory wires when trying to snake the wire/harness through a rubber boot, etc.
And it keeps you from having to drill larger holes in your car to pass through the larger harnesses and connectors that other cameras have.
In addition, if you had this actual camera in hand, you would instantly know that it is very high quality and well made. The frame and housing are all powder-coated or chrome-plated metal, not cheap plastic that will deteriorate in the elements (salt air, UV, heat/cold, road salt from winter roads, etc.).
Go ahead and buy your cheap, plastic CMOS camera. This is a high-quality 3-Lux CCD that is far superior in every way, and as Dean stated, it has lasted over 7 years and has been installed in multiple vehicles. Once you install one of these yourself, trust me, you never want to do it again if you don't have to.
IMO, if you can afford it, it's definitely worth it.
Lol, this camera is not worth $140 or $180, it's worth about $5, the resolution is barely 480p..
Do you have a new favorite back up camera
Yea I can't find this one
Damn, son dem hands went through hell!!! You need to take better care of your hands. Wear some gloves or something. And by the way, $183 for a back-up camera is waaay too much.
are you that gay that you give a shit about another mans hands? Seriously real working men unfortunately have beat up hands and not those of a pampered princess concerned about another mans hands.
OK time to let the other guy take over the videos … Let's hear him
So $180 for camera + $200+ for radio to use camera. No thanks, there are cheaper and better options out there.
You have a cat
Now I remember why I fell asleep in class ZZZZZZzzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzz
To much extra stuff to buy and to complicated,I just want to back up without being pretty
