@@winstonsmith478 there is. if you can boot the amithlon cd you can install it one of two ways, Amiga OS XL, the QNX linux core w photon gui, its a self booter, but compatibility w qnx is rare. so i do the boot partition way as bernd meyer did it years ago. it may seem complicated, but its pretty easy, and very nice once you get it all sorted.
9:30 - (Long ago...) Since I started seeing secondary hard drives being named "Work:", I started naming my boot partition "Bench:", in order to maintain the WorkBench environment. :)
Supported isn't the word. They will work in VESA mode only which means no acceleration and only VESA graphics modes. Other than that you probably wouldn't notice
I cheat with my Amithlon installs. Set it up once then used Acronis to back up the whole harddrive. Then I can write it back to any harddrive, ready to go as soon as you reboot.
Late to this! Oh I wonder if I can stick this on one of my old XP or '98 machines? Got a variety of these but they're all Pentiums - P2, P3 (Dual), and a P4. There's some redundancy here so was going to ditch one of them but having a dedicated Amiga would be kind of cool.
It looks so much better than Windows10. The grey color doesn't give you eye cancer :). The 3D effect on the Windows is pure dope, it's sooo goood. I really like it :).
@@jimmihenry "Win NT has no drawers" Well it have a cartotec file folder and that is fairly similar. What made them windows NT 4.0 like is that they have this background gradient. OF cause you have to set NT 4.0 to high color icons, that is not a default setting. Then the little quriky shapes and happy color is very similar to Larry icons
That's really interesting, I'm pretty sure I had normal.installation cd for amithlon. Or at least live cd. Definitely I never had to use any DOS and command line.
The original had amigaxl which is qnx and was a single installer. Sometimes it works sometimes it dont. This is my way to install it with a DOS partition quickly you get used to it and I can knock it out and usually like 30 minutes

Amithlon always requires a boot environment, either Linux or Dos, to run it's emulation. Difference was AmigaXL used emulated hardware provided by QNX (like WinUAE does on PC) and Amithlon used real hardware provided by the host computer. The CD of Amithlon uses a Linux boot setup to initialize Amithlon which ran off the bigird.gz amithlon_hd ramdisk image.
I really like your videos. One question: If I have an Amithlon system running with network support. I can then download software from Aminet. Connecting Amithlon system with, for example, an Amiga1200 through a null modem cable with the right software. What will be the transfer speed? Is this an option or should i take the winuae path with an CF card. Opening the Amiga case put the CF card in etc etc. I think its a hassle, but want to know what your point of view is. (FYI, I have an Amiga1200 with 68030 turbocard, no network card)
Chris, What does Sysinfo have to say about speeds etcetera for this system. I thought Bernie Meyer gave up on Amithlon due to some legal issue he had with someone one else. He was living in Australia at that time but that was probably 20 odd years ago

Hey Chris, I’d like to set up an Amithlon box for a telnet BBS. This would run 24/7. Ideally I could find a low power consumption fanless setup. Any idea what might be appropriate for that use case out of the compatible Amithlon hardware?
any of the Athalon series like the one i did here will work fine, has serial and printers working fine. and its fast and lots of ram. remember, treat it like its 1994. I have done several of the boards from Pentiums, athalons, to P4's and they all worked fine. the tricky part is the hardware accelerated video cards. but this board worked out of box everything perfect. you can find them on ebay. but check out my other Amithlon videos to help you make your decision. also Tom, aka Snkbittin is a major asset.

make sure you edit small or whatever launcher your using and use either kernel310 or kernel4, each system is unique some like 3 some like 4, i run kernel310 before applying the patch. its a finiky thing, but sure is nice when its all working.
Hello Chris. I'love Amithlon. It could be interressing explain how to use emulators on it. Like snes9x, mame, Genesis. For genesis the megadrive emulator it's good but a problem to configure the pad (usb) for exemple in the .rc file Thanks
hey Chris, I'm havin a little problem with this install when I run the command format c: /sys I get an error message "critical error during dos disk access dos driver error (hex) :01 description : unknown unit for driver Program terminated [Error 129] tried on two different systems both give same error.Any thoughts? C'mon an help a fellow PA guy! LOL
any athalonXP series is totally compatible, the more mhz the faster, and more ram better. its up to you and your price range. the old boards are not that expensive on ebay
Hi Chris. I watched this video because I have an A500 and an A1200. I have also got a Raspberry Pi 3. I have not tried a 386 implementation of Amiga OS. Well for 20 bucks you can't go far wrong! What I have found with the R-pi emulator is that there are many things that are not genuine. You find the code has been hacked to make it run on the emulator. If for example, you compare "Shadow of the Beast" booting from floppy disk on an A500, to supposedly the same title on the emulator, you find it is not the same with features not present. Can you make a video entitled "Real Amiga A500 versus emulator", "Real Amiga A1200 versus A1200 Emulator". ? Thanks for uploading.
well no emulation is perfect. far from it, its just the closest it can be based on the hardware we have. funny how the bad ass computers of today still can not exactly emulate old chips from 37 years ago. . just shows you how Amazing The Commodore Amiga is.

Most of the harassment was on his upcoming Umilator (Amithlon 2) that was all his own code and not a combined work with Harold of VMC. He's on a few Amiga forums but doesn't have any interest in Amithlon anymore...he was treated pretty badly.

I take it the lack of custom chipset on the PC such as on the Amiga doesn’t make this 100% for certain tasks? Or does this emulate? The USB driver Arackattack is it? Is this just for Amithlon? As I’m looking to build up a A1200 with phase 5 603e plus and a add-on GREX card and looking for a way to use a standard PCI USB card with Poseidon 4.5 with a open PCI firmware update. Cheers 😉👍🏻

Nullmodem speed is the speed of the amiga serial port max 38400kbps. Network speed is 100Mb/s on amithlon.

Usb works fine with the openpci/usb drivers. I cover much more software in my older amithlon videos. Theres a playlist i think

Poseidon is the usb stack. Openpci lets amiga side use pc expansion cards native on amiga. You can run pciscan to see what is detected

Install Poseidon 4.45 update on top of your 3.8 install and it'll remove the demo mode.
