      Could you please tell in which edition of Time Magazine did this statement appear and by whom(Was the writer Indian?). I googled it and could not come up with any evidence for this statement, than similar claims.
      Another popular misinformation is the IMDB list which lists Mohanlal as one among the best 10 actors. But IMDB lists are user created.
      Here is an IMDB best actors list in which Vinu Mohan tops the list
      .
      www.imdb.com/list/ls068959072/?ref_=nm_rls_1
      THis is the celebrated list in which MOhanlal is listed. Created by.. PrashobhKumar.
      (aara? enikkariyilla)
      www.imdb.com/list/ls054840033/
      I would be the first one to argue that Mohanlal is infact India's answer to Brando. A phenomenal actor. But, before blindly believing in the statements that you see on social media, try to look for the authenticity of such news. Social media is pure Maaya. Google would be a helpful tool, occasionally.

    • @hariedathil2199
      @hariedathil2199 4 года назад +2

      You have been constantly calling people names. They might have seen it in WhatsApp or any other social media, yes, and most of the time would be fake. But that doesn't give you any right to call people any names. Second thing, that news is to fake or not I don't know, but Mohanlal is one of the greatest actors India has. He is much much better than any Bollywood stars in terms of acting, yes, far better than even the Big B.

He is brilliant in stunt scenes , he dances, he sings, and he lives each character, he doesn't act. If I had to compare him to anyone in Hollywood, it'll be Robert De Niro :)

      The physically minute(facial expressions,predominantly) yet deeply emotionally conveying acting could arguably be compared to that of Brando's. The acting of DeNiro is a bit more pronounced and methodical. Kamal Haasan, in the more subtle roles that he has portrayed, could be compared to De Niro. In my humble observation.

      @@neo-noiranathubronthan6045 Dont you think Al Pacino might be a better comparison with Kamal, regarding their more popular roles. De Niro is not really all that 'loud' compared to that. It might be true comparing their more subtle roles. But when i think about switching roles between 'Heat' and 'Unnai pol oruvan', the more subtle character done by De Niro is better suited to Mohanlal while the bit quirky portrayal by Al Pacino is suited to Kamal Hassan.....I feel De Niro and Mohanlal is a fair comparison
      On another note, how do you feel about Mohanlal vs Seymour Hoffman?

    • @neo-noiranathubronthan6045
      @neo-noiranathubronthan6045 4 года назад +1

      @@juliansam Now that you pointed it out, man, I do see similarities between the performances of Al Pacino and Kamal(They seem to have a similar energy to their performances, infact). Had not crossed my mind while writing the comment since the references of my thoughts were MOhanlal, De Niro and their performances. Embarrassingly, I am not quite familiar with Hoffman's work. I remember watching a couple of clips of him, out of context and I see how Mohanlal's performances could be compared to his( maybe even their body language)
      But,I don't quite see how De Niro and Mohanlal are similar.
      (MOhanlal's murder monologue in Sadayam and Brando's horror monologue in Apolcalypse Now, I feel , have the same kind of vibe, if not the intensity, if you could dismiss the difference in the technicalities of the movies)

      As highlighted above by 12 34 you will need to watch them keeping in mind that almost all these movies were made in the 90s and late 80s. So the outlook of these movies and most of the other commercial movies were stictly for the malayalee audiences of that time. Movies were generally not made keeping a global audience in mind. So all mannerisms and pacing and dialogue presentation can only be appreciated completely if you understand the culture of the people as a whole. Hope this makes sense.
      But one thing is guaranteed and that is mohanlal's acting in all of the movies is top notch. 🤘
      And I can add many many more to this list 😛

    Amitabh Bachchan don't have 10% of what Mohanlal's achievement as an actor. Amitabh is good actor and huge star. But 90% of his films are meaningless commercial entertainers. Serious film maker of hindi films industry always preferred actors like Ompuri, Nasiruddin Shah etc. In terms of artistic content Hindi films decade away from Bengoli and Malayalam films. Good hindi films can only compete with other mediocre hindi films. Not with best regional films.

    • @rineeshparai1780

      Pointless comparisons. You can watch and appreciate all the actors. There is no point in trying to score one actor over the other. Besides, Mohanlal has done his fair share of trashy action flicks with over the top dialogues. I'm a Mohanlal fan, but no actor has a 100% flawless career. They are bound by the demands of box office.

      Comparing AB with Mohanlal is like comparing Apples and oranges. Both are great and you need not put other down to make other great. If you think AB is 10% of Mohanlal, it shows your ignorance and does no damage to those actors. AB is too costly to work in those artsy films like Ompuri, Naser did.

    Mohanlal is not a method actor. His style leans more towards spontaneity, and is comparable to Stella Adler's acting method, which she built on the Stanislavski method, of course -- natural acting that emphasizes imagination and emotional recall. On the other hand, Mammootty -- the other Big 'M' of Malayalam cinema -- can be classified as a method actor. Even though, in actuality, it is difficult to put both of these actors in boxes like that.
    PS. Not saying any of these methods are better than the others. Whatever be the theory, we know the value these icons carry in our minds.

It's such a simple simple movie with unbelievably brilliant detailing all over, I wonder how a non malayali will catch all those tiny details! *The reason Subhadra* (In Mythology: The Name of wife of Arjuna) was enticed with and had sex with him is that through his performance she was passionately obsessed with the mythical character Arjuna .Who is pretty much the hero of the Mahabharata, a Demi God (who was one of the fiercest warriors even among gods) and considered to be the pinnacle / perfection of what a man can/could be. Subhadra (in movie) was already in love with the character Arjuna from the mythology (and the script expertly names her the same name as Arjuna s wife) and also the Kadhakali art form and how it is able to embody/bring to life the mythologies of the land.
    And it is upon seeing Kunhikannan (Mohanlal s character) portray Arjuna that she becomes even more obsessed with it. She initially understands the division between the artist and the character but later she only sees the character. He is like a God in front of her and it is why she sleeps with him and conceives a baby. Subhadra 100% believes that this is the baby of a God and thus that Kunhikannan is just a man and therefore NOT the father of the child and has no rights over him. This obsession later decides her fate as well . Kunhikannan got a taste for a finer life in the shape of this beautiful high caste women who worships his work as well as through the joy of being a father. And when being denied those pleasures , he becomes enraged and is seen through his work there on.
    I hope I didn not confuse you even more. And may be now you can understand more of the movie (And dont worry about what they were talking with gestures, people who understand them are very few. As you need to understand the gestures to even understand a Kadhakali performance. Which close to 90% of people in Kerala itself dont ) :D :D :D Keep up the great reviews guys

    Vanaprastham, though a great movie, probably was not the best way to start off on Mohanlal especially given the deep cultural references. Mohanlal has had a career spanning close to 5 decades and he has given many awesome, award-winning performances....it's a little difficult to name one. But if you get a chance, watch KIREEDAM (1989)...I feel you'll love the movie for the acting as well as the story (may not be one for technical stuff). Also, you will be introduced to another legend from Malayalam cinema - Thilakan
