I was a little nervous going into Pure Colour bc i thought it might be too esoteric but it ended up being my favorite novel of 2023! for what it's worth, it sounds like a much more cohesive/coherent reading experience than Alphabet Diaries
ooooh interesting, i feel like i’ve seen such mixed things about it!! if motherhood and how should a person be go well for me i’ll have to check it out!!
I loved hearing about the Sarah Manguso. How much I enjoy her style of writing. The revolving sushi bar looks like so much fun! I’m looking that one up! Not a Disney adult. 🤣🤣
i’ve really enjoyed everything i’ve read by sarah manguso so far!! i need to check out what i haven’t gotten to yet. the sushi bar was so fun! i definitely recommend it!!
@@casskrug , It's gotten me interested in her again. I love your hair btw, since you showed a shot of the salon, really cool cut! Since moving bk to Pgh in 2021, I've checked out a few salons & now I've followed a stylist to 2 other salons...all around Lawrenceville...you know how hard it is to find one to connect with!
@thelefthandedreader6632 thank you so much!! my salon is in lawrenceville too hahaha. i cut my own hair for a while because i didn’t trust anyone else to do it, but i’m so glad i found my stylist!!
alt vlog title: snoopy girl goes to revolving sushi ft. trixie mattel Hands down my fav vlog from you so far! Loved your thoughts on ABC Diaries. There really is something so seamless between Heti’s sentences, how one sentence feels within the same time as another. It makes you think if a yesterday from years ago could be a tomorrow for you now. Time really is just this massive pool of happenings, now and then.
how would you like to come up with all my titles from now on 😭 thank you so much, this means a lot coming from the vlog king himself!! you honestly just blew my mind with those descriptions of how abc diaries distorts our perception of time. love love love
i got a copy of ‘very cold people’ at a library sale! i haven’t read any manguso yet. also lolol at spending all that money on cheese 😂 but honestly i can only imagine how yummy that mac and cheese came out. rlly loved that you sat & thought about what wasn’t working for you. it def feels so easy to just be like meh didn’t like a book without sitting with why it didn’t. i definitely do that, so loved hearing you talk thru it & i wanna try and do that more!!!
i feel like very cold people had a similar darkness to it!! she’s definitely an author to watch. hahaha i have a container of it in my freezer… saving it for when i want a little treat. i also have 4 bags of leftover grated cheese in the freezer 😂 i feel like that’s what i’ve done for a lot of my reading life!! it’s so satisfying to be able to actually work through the reasons for the dislike. i know you talked in your goals video about figuring out your taste, and i feel like this is such an important part in that!!
I have 'Alphabet Diaries' on hold at my library so excited to read it this month. I read 'Pure Color' last year and really didn't like it but the concept of 'Alphabet Diaries' is really intriguing so who knows! Also, it's def fine with me to read a book that I don't end up loving, for that reason I've abandoned rating books with stars, like you mentioned. Because I get caught up in what to rate the book while I'm still reading it! It takes me out of it to be halfway through and already evaluating my experience. There's also a lot of booktube content around finding 5 star reads and I feel like sometimes that gets me in a spell where I think that's what to chase. But like, it's fine if a book is mediocre.
oh i hope you love it!! i definitely agree with what you said about getting too caught up in what to rate a book!! i love the shift that we’re seeing away from star ratings and toward just appreciating books for what they are.
I really connected with you mentioning trying to think about books more critically like you might in a school setting. I've been writing down my thoughts more after I finish a book and even just as I'm reading to help sort through and develop my thoughts and help them stick around so I can revisit/expand on them (I'm great at forgetting things as soon as I move on to something else). This is the most random coincidence but I've been using these pokemon notebooks I got as prizes at Kura, from a trip to Japan last year, to write down my messier thoughts and musings as I read, lol.
i’m glad that resonated with you!! i’ve been doing the same because my memory is also not the best and it’s been such a huge help! hahaha i love that you got the notebooks from kura, and from japan too! that’s such a funny coincidence 😭
