great video. The noise is hard to hear because of the wind noise but it sounds like it changes with wheel speed, so that means it is a rotational noise. Something is not right in the brakes that you just replaced. Either a backing plate is rubbing or some rust is somewhere it shouldn't be and is rubbing every revolution.

Lou! I'm in serious need of help. Basically, my front right passenger side brakes make a creaking noise, similar to someone walking on old wooden stairs. My 1st trip to the dealer: they re-greased all brake pad components and caliper pistons and slides. Still got the sound. 2nd trip to the dealer: they ordered me a new caliper for that side still get the noise. The creaking occurs when the car is stationary on or off or coming to a stop slowly. Also the creaking only occurs when the brakes have been warmed up. No sound when the car has been sitting. It's a 2014 ATS thanks for your help!
@@LouTrottier when I drive over speed bumps or pot holes there is no creak. The mechanic at the dealership said I still have life in my break pads, however they are 6 years old. I'm going to try replacing them and see what happens...
Had to get a brand new caliper, because it was leaking brake fluid, and the the one replaced was new. The noise I hear is still there, and I can’t figure out what the hell it is. Idk if it’s the rotor, ball joint, bearing, bushing etc. it’s driving me crazy right now, and maybe this is close to what I’m hearing. But when I’m in the car I can hear it.
I hear clanking kind of like that; though, I swear that it only began after I went in to remove the calipers / bracket / brake pads / rotors, to replace the sway bar end links. Could I have re-seated something incorrectly? I've yet to take the car for a drive-I simply rotated the tire while the front end was up on jack stands. I wonder if the brake pistons just need some pumping so that they reset(?)
if you took the rotors off, I would start looking there. perhaps some rust fell in behind the brake rotor and is no trapped between the rotor and the hub.
Just one more way to confirm if it is a warped rotor without using the tool, if the rotor is seriously warped, as shown in the video, driving at 70 mph and applying hard brakes should result in a pulsating brake pedal feel.
Hi our Kia Sorento makes this noise. The foot brake lining was replaced as the mechanic thought that was the problem. But i keep hearing a noise similar to this. At the repair shop the whole vehicle was scanned after the foot brake repair and they said everything is fine. Only passengers in the backseat can hear this
thats a tough one. if the noise was not there before the brake lining was replaced and started after the service then something is wrong with the job they did. Sometimes I have been know to swap all the parts from left to right to see of the noise goes to the other side. Otherwise it is usually rust that causes those wierd noises.
My noise is very close to that. VW Jetta 2011took it to Budget Brake & Muffler here in Canada i had drum brake servie clean & adjust then rear wheel bearing and hub service, cost me almost 1,000 later, that was about 2 weeks ago, the noise seems to be back again, the noise is sporadic, sometimes louder, then sometimes quieter, and or no noise for quite a while, then starts up again. seems to happen once the brakes are warmed up, but usually only occurs when pressing the brake softly or medium pressing.the sound sounds around the middle of the car to the back end of it.
@@LouTrottier Thanks for responding back, a loose caliper can have a similar noise sort of a rocking back & forth(rattle), according to other videos, Nut(bushing) rocks back & forth a similar sound as well(on another different video) i can mention to this Car shop, sometimes it could be the easiest thing, and right in front of them? I got a g37 and changed rotor and disc about 8 months ago. Now I am hearing that sound but right after a snow storm . Now I am not sure if it's the rotor or the hub. I might have to try a different rotor on it just to see if it's the rotor if it continues I will look at the hub
Hi, the same problem i have in my car.i change the rotor then after 1 month the same breaking noise im encountered.. what will be the solution in ur video?.
I have the same noise on my 2015 Jetta. I have replaced all brake pads and all 4 rotors also. I did apply CRC brake grease on the pins/back of pads where it will make contact with caliper, also where the pad glides on caliper itself. I am thinking maybe my abs or parking brake may not be releasing properly or maybe its a very dry bushing
I heard it might be unlubricated caliber pin. Also my brakes are a straight GROAN. Even when parked, even when engine is off. One big groannnn from the rear right. No clue what’s happening and google isn’t much help.
Have this problem, after about 3 months of installing new discs and brake pads.. i can barely hear it when near stop. It goes on and off, its not a constant noise..
I have a 2016 Honda odyssey. Just got new brakes and rotors. No noise prior to the brake and rotor change. Now I have a roar noise intermittently when I make a stop. I also have the creaking noise in the video when slowing at a low speed. What could it be?
After installing new rear end rotors I took the car for a drive to get them good and hot. At 60 mph I hit the brakes, and repeated it 10 times. When I was done and drove home, I braked at a turn and there was this really loud humming noise. However it sounded like it came from the front, not the rear. Could it be a temporary thing because of the hard brakes I did, or do I need to do something with the rotor in case it's been polished by the brake pad? The car stops fine and all, and the sound later is no consistent. Sometimes it makes sound and others not, but when it does, the sound get's louder by pressing the brakes harder. Would love if you have any feedback on this :)
My Lexus IS250 makes a small knocking like or tik tik tik noise like this. The suspension in the car is brand new, and they changed all the struts and everything. So it must be the brakes as I only have this issue when I’m slowing down at low speeds. I had the brakes changed last year so I wonder if it cold just be dirty or if it’s still under warranty they can replace the brakes on the front driver side where the source of the sound comes from.
Sir I also hear same noise in my car cabin when i apply break at lower speed, but it seems to come from backside of my car. Is it same problem you mentioned in this video ?
@@LouTrottier cool man I’ll have to get one. I’m having a slightly different issue where it sounds like a rapid ticking noise when I’m braking. It’s always at a steady rhythm that doesn’t change. I recently out new pads and was wondering if this noise is the pads cutting the rotors and will eventually go away or is this more serious? I thought it might be the hub but I don’t have any play.
Hi Lou. I installed new front brakes in September. Pads and Rotors. I greased all areas as recommended, slider pins with silicone grease, copper antiseize on the ears and backside of the pads. Now that it is winter every morning I get this scrapping noise. Like the caliper is not releasing the pad fast enough. I reapplied antiseize on backside of pads and ears and it works for about a week but I find that the heat friction melts away the antiseize so its basically bare metal against bare metal. Any ideas on how to get rid of that noise. Noise also happens sometimes as I am braking. Summer time is never an issue as the brakes don't make any noise. Only during cold months
That’s a weird one. It’s possible that the noise is coming from the backing plates. The heat cannot be melting away the antiseize. You gotta be missing something when installing.
Ya I can't figure it out myself. I even tried using the CRC disc quiet. After one week when I take it apart its basically just the bare backing plate of the brake pad. Same with the Antiseize. After a week it's the bare brake pad plate. When I put the stuff on it's ok for a week and then the noise comes back
Exact same for me man during winter it was making noise. Last time I had this problem I was told the caliper was leaking and needed a new one. I got new one and replaced noise stopped for a while also during summer but this winter it came back.
I'm having this noise on my transit custom, garage said it was a bad disc and said they changed it, sound went away for a week but just came back again.
Now I'm suspecting the weird "clacking" and thumping noise (sometimes sounds like a train going over railroad tracks) I hear occasionally on my 22 Jeep Wrangler could be the brakes causing these noises. Only happens when the weather is colder and more humid. Dealer says my vehicle's brakes are glazed. Could this be the actual root cause of these clacking and thumping noises?
is the noise only present when you are applying brakes?? is so then yes look at brakes. if it is present when you are not pushing brake pedal then it is something else.
@@LouTrottier No it happens when I'm driving slow and right when my vehicle is reversing. The vehicle would have a rotational clacking sound, then once its in drive, a thumping noise (sounds like something is swaying underneath the car). But I checked underneath the car, nothing is loose...
kinda the same problem with my 06 camry. i just recently replaced all my brake pads and rotors and the crackling/grinding noise is still there when i hold onto the brakes during a stop sign/light/idle in drive etc. it will come and go when i release the brakes and press on it again. i know my ABS light is on and eventually needs new wheel speed sensors but if it anyone has the slightest clue, please let me know.
I had my vehicle parked outside on my driveway for about a week or so. It's still new with only 200 miles on it. Then yesterday I decided to take it for a drive. However, when I released the parking brake and began rolling off my driveway, right before it moved forward, there was a loud thump or clank sound. I was slightly worried at first as I have never experienced this sound before. Is this normal? Does anyone have any idea what this could have been? 🤔
Sir my Honda city making this same noise. I changed my brake pads (Honda original but used brakes) and cut my rotors on machine. My car running is very low. Once in a month.. when I applying brake I am hearing tak tak sound from left side front tyre... High sound on slow braking, and slow sound on fast braking!!!
Interesting. Why would the sound from the brakes go away after getting the car serviced (oil change and such). I have the same sound when I lightly push on my brakes before but last time I got my oil changed it went away. 3 months later it came back.
I have 2003 corolla I had changed the pads and rotors still same sound comes on when outside is dry but when is raining it doesn't, im thinking that some thing isn't greased.
I have the exact same noise on my honda city. And it gets worse every time i go for a car wash. I changed the brakepad, resurface the rotor and same problem occurs over and over again. I dont know what to do, the mechanic suggests me to change the rotor 😔
I just bought a new Renault Kiger CVT RXT. It was delivered last week and I have driven 300 kilometers so far. I can hear a weird sound when I apply and release the brake in slow-moving traffic. Can you suggest what might be wrong? I was told by an advisor at the service center that this problem occurs in all Renault CVT cars. Tomorrow I will take my car back to the service center. The noise is terrible.
Great video. So, in this case, we have to change the hub? I have similar issue, but not 100% the same noise. Just harder sound, like "tak, tak" especially when in stop & go traffic jam situation. It started after I changed bearings & brake pads. But the problem only on the right - front wheel. Later found the hub runout/parallelism problem. But not yet replace/repair it (possible?). I replaced the bearing instead because people told me it's the cause & the same noise comes again... If you can shed some light, I appreciate it very much. Already visit many workshops without any solution. Thanks.

this sounds like what my 2008 Ford focus is making when I brake but sounds as if its coming from the rear brakes. I know nothing about cars so could it be the same problem and is it an expensive fix?
I put new brake rotors and pads 3 months ago. I hear this kind of noise, just when slowing down and pressing brake pedal lightly. No noise at high speeds or hard braking. Could it be the same problem, considering that brakes are new?
@@LouTrottier Problem is fixed, mechanic cleaned bearing and inner part of rotor, there was a lot of rust on the wheel bearing. It's all ok now, no weird sounds.

Okay, so here’s my issue: 2003 Cadillac Seville pulls LEFT when I brake moderately hard(no pull when I brake in a controlled way). And intermittently, I hear a very loud noise(almost sounds like air in a pipe, or when you blow into a beer bottle near the top-but VERY loud) on the RIGHT side of the car. Any ideas? I see “squeal” and “hiss” as problem brake sounds, but my sound is lower pitched than a squeal. Think about it like that sound that you get when turning on water and there’s air in the system.
Same issue I guess on my 2004 Hyundai accent. I hear this noise when breaking slightly at very low speeds. I feel like the break doesn't engage at all. It feels like break pedal depresses easily without resistance when that noise is heard. Im not sure if thats true, because the amount of breaking is very little. The car mechanic is reluctant to fix this, saying its all fine. But this got me worried 😟 . Does anyone else also suspect if the vehicle is stopping at all when you hear this? By the way the ABS light on dashboard turns on at these times.

I have my vehicle making sorts of humming or grinding noise when decelerating all the way from 40km/h to the stop, what problem can that be? I also tried to keep the speed around 30km/h for a range of distance, so the speed was kept around 30km/h all the time, the sort of the humming and grinding sounds are appearing the most noticeable during the journey. I’ve replaced the brake rotors and pads as due to the noise, but the noise just stays the same.
Hey when i press the brakes hard on my car the noise the tires or the brakes make is strange . I am not too sure what makes the noise but it's the same noise as when you lock up the tires on some gravel ground it does that "grrrrrrrrrrr" until it stops and the brakes are less effective almost feels like the car is braking hard but not effective enough . I haven't driven the car in 5 months so i am thinking that it could be that or the fact that i need to change the rotors and the pads .
Hello, I have a very similar issue. So this is what happens. I move on upto a speed and then break gently(not hard breaking). Then I hear some "tik tik tik" or "tak tak tak" noise as the car stops. And by the time the car stops it sounds like something scratching on the breaks. This sound becomes like a tak tak noise once on the move and breaking from speed. The interesting part is , the sound does not come the first 5 to 10 mins of the drive as if it heats up and then the sound comes. My mechanic says there is play in the wheel bearing and the hub assembly needs replacement and will solve the issue. But now a days I am not confident with these people. Can you help.

It's a 2014 ATS thanks for your help!
that's a weird one, for sure. is it possible it is a suspension noise and not a brake noise?
@@LouTrottier when I drive over speed bumps or pot holes there is no creak. The mechanic at the dealership said I still have life in my break pads, however they are 6 years old. I'm going to try replacing them and see what happens...
@@LouTrottier Hey Lou! Turns out my issue was this parallelism exactly! Thanks again for your video and help.

@@addiandvinci4308 parallelism in the rotar. Have to get new rotars
But when I’m in the car I can hear it.
brake rotor or hub.
👍
Or your steering wheel will be shaking .
Would it also cause slight shaking when braking? This sounds exactly like what's going on with my old Celica
yes to slight shaking.
@LouTrottier the noise was there before the replacement. It's infuriating as I can't figure out what it is
My noise is very close to that. VW Jetta 2011took it to Budget Brake & Muffler here in Canada i had drum brake servie clean & adjust then rear wheel bearing and hub service, cost me almost 1,000 later, that was about 2 weeks ago, the noise seems to be back again, the noise is sporadic, sometimes louder, then sometimes quieter, and or no noise for quite a while, then starts up again. seems to happen once the brakes are warmed up, but usually only occurs when pressing the brake softly or medium pressing.the sound sounds around the middle of the car to the back end of it.
going to have to have the hub runout checked when it is warm. usually a hub or a rotor that has runout when hot.
Thanks
I got a g37 and changed rotor and disc about 8 months ago. Now I am hearing that sound but right after a snow storm . Now I am not sure if it's the rotor or the hub. I might have to try a different rotor on it just to see if it's the rotor if it continues I will look at the hub
some sort of debris behind the rotor, in between rotor and hub??
With a condition such as this one. Is the car still safe to use during long drive or not. Thank you for your answer

I have a similar noise, this happens also when I turn the steering wheel all the way to one side, like this metal creaking noise.
sounds like you might be on the right track.
Hi, the same problem i have in my car.i change the rotor then after 1 month the same breaking noise im encountered.. what will be the solution in ur video?.
In this video it was the brake rotor. But I have also encountered this noise When the hub needs replacement.

Send my a video of the noise.
Have this problem, after about 3 months of installing new discs and brake pads.. i can barely hear it when near stop. It goes on and off, its not a constant noise..
if it wasn't there before new parts installed then I would think its a defective part.
I have a 2016 Honda odyssey. Just got new brakes and rotors. No noise prior to the brake and rotor change. Now I have a roar noise intermittently when I make a stop. I also have the creaking noise in the video when slowing at a low speed. What could it be?
if it wasn't there before it has to be related to the brake job that was juts completed. take it back.
If you only did rear brakes and you are sure the noise is coming from the front I would think it is temporary ur to the hard braking.
My car makes very same noise but I observe its coming from the rear drum breaks. Could the same problem happen to drum breaks?
not very common in the rear, but possible I guess.
Sounds like you need warranty on those brakes.
if the hub have runout/parallelism, will it also make your wheel wobbling and your car will shake as well?
probably not no.
Sir I also hear same noise in my car cabin when i apply break at lower speed, but it seems to come from backside of my car. Is it same problem you mentioned in this video ?
probably yes.
That gopro is pretty useful how do you guys secure them to the vehicle like that?
I sometimes bolt with a custom made mount.. but in this case he used some sort of amazon clamp system.. not sure what he used in this video.
When I put the stuff on it's ok for a week and then the noise comes back
@@williamthai9194 try a different brand? There is no way properly installed brake quiet is disappearing after a week.
Exact same for me man during winter it was making noise. Last time I had this problem I was told the caliper was leaking and needed a new one. I got new one and replaced noise stopped for a while also during summer but this winter it came back.

Bad wheel bearing

The end of my video describes examining the wheel hub as the source. You should examine the hub on the wheel the noise is coming from.
The brake pads corroded and stuck to the rotors temporarily. Don’t t worry about it.

I just bought a new Renault Kiger CVT RXT. It was delivered last week and I have driven 300 kilometers so far.

I was told by an advisor at the service center that this problem occurs in all Renault CVT cars. Tomorrow I will take my car back to the service center. The noise is terrible.
I can’t imagine any brand new car with a noise anyone would describe as terrible. Take it back and insist they fix it.
