Yes, there is a ferry between the north and the south that you take your car on, make sure to book the ticket for the ferry like a week or so in advance at least
Yea that's it , We ran out of time when we went. I'm pretty sure there was no restrictions with the company we rented the van from about using the Ferry just some roads.

Yeh it was a nice road trip, we got to see so much in the time that we were there. Definitely keen to get back over and explore the North Island 😁😊
