Fun fact:
Muhammad (saw) mentioned that it is men who should cover their heads, not women. For if a man believes that a woman must cover herself, lest he be tempted, then perhaps it is the man who needs to be controlled. Not the woman.
I, as a convert studying to become Muslim, have found the loads of archaic practices of the faith, and their sects, that have no real factual hold on the belief. I believe it should be a woman’s choice wether to wear the hijab or not. I personally cover my long hair whenever I am in public; because that’s how I interpret the prophets message. Times are changing, and Islam must change with it. As we have seen in such courageous demonstrations of women in the Middle East, tossing and burning their hijabs, in sign of solidarity for their fallen sister; a young woman taken by men who bastardize the word of Allah (swt). I say it is a woman’s choice; because Allah has made us free to be who he designed us to be. Amen.
