He talks about the insurgent threat in the valley and to be sure they were hard, fast, and frequent especially in the early days. But hands down, the most dangerous opponents in the entirety of that Valley were the Korengali villagers themselves.

I served in Kunar, but lets be brutally honest, what was the point of it all? We did manly, tough guy things for what is now a hedonistic, degenerate, and decadent culture/nation. The one true take away from that war is: humans are evil, lost, and we will endure all kinds of suffering for futile causes.

Kunar was a world of its own. Can’t say I don’t miss it. But you’re right, what was the point. Yes the people lived a better life for some time but they’re back to the same shit, the tali holds all of our old fobs/ cops and have our weapons…

They have been fighting that terrain for a 1000 years, US, Russkies, British and on and on. I hear what he saying, but ranger school? Nah bro, that’s how the Batt does it and has done it since WW2. I can’t remember book but D CDR or something Dalton?, he speaks of talking with locals in that valley 101st airmobiled into early , they told him in essence “ we been fighting this valley for dozens of generations, we hand down the knowledge to each new generation, we know all the defensive positions, we know the only aves of approach and we hold the advantage , if they come they will die”. He informed the 101st and they blew him off. It’s thier hood, they have advantage.
