      It doesn't sound like it was poorly maintained. If it was poorly maintained, it would sound like a Diesel and make an awful ticking noise when you accelerate, this one doesn't make that noise. My 06 navigator is at about 220k and it runs fine but sometimes when you come to a stop it makes a clacking noise. This isn't an issue if you change the oil alot and run full synthetic. the older 2V 5.4L and the 2 and 3V 4.6 Liters don't have the issue nearly as bad as the 5.4 3V

      Ford quit quality vehicles after 2003, they started using cheaper materials, but Super duty Fords quality went downhill after 2007 exactly so it’s not shocking that you used to be a Chevy fan, I can tell you Gm quality went downhill after 2007, and Heavy duty Chevy’s and GMC’s started going downhill until basically this year or last year only because the Allison transmission ones were durable still, the ones without it went downhill around 2007, and Dodge trucks biggest problem is Chrysler, Fiat, and Peugeot ownership otherwise those trucks are nicer than Ford, and equal if not nicer than a Gm truck, but if you want to pay more those Nissan and Toyota trucks are stellar quality and the V8 engines are very robust, the Nissan V8’s are on par with all three automakers of Detroit, and Toyota’s are very on par with Nissan and Gm V8’s no doubt. 😁 They are similar to the ones that Dodge uses but it’s more reliable because Toyota technology is similar to Honda and Nissan that’s also why? 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Great channel. I had a 5.4 3v, and had no problems at all. Sold it with 180K. Like the Ford tech said, it's about the original, poorly designed spark plug ceramic core, which sometimes broke off on removal, and keeping the oil clean with good oil and very good (not Fram) oil filters, which directly impacted lubing the timing chain tensioners, which led to timing chain and cam follower issues. Be aware of those sensitive issues and it's a solid engine.

    • @Samuel-zl7yw
      @Samuel-zl7yw 3 года назад +5

      The newer 08-10 5.4’s were sort of buttoned up. Lots of people with 3v 5.4’s got their money’s worth with them, though many were not running in pristine condition. From 04 and up they experience chain problem, rattling spark plugs getting stuck and breaking off. Even though some have problems they still run good. Most of the time people solve the big issues like spark plugs and live with the rattle noises for 100,000s of miles. These motors need their oil changed on time maybe every 5,000 or less. If you ever test one and see how smooth it is if well maintained. It’s gonna last you with proper maintenance. I have most experience with the 2002 5.4 2 valve which is a simpler design and known to be more trusty. 3v 5.4’s can have issues, but many have the potential to last if you take care of them!

    I have this truck with the 2005 6.0 diesel. I don't like hearing how the codes are not accurate. I had an issue where the battery light would just flash a little when going down hill. Going up to Wyoming on I-15 I had the Provo Ford check the battery and they said okay. I thank them for checking my truck at closing. Later my truck sporadically just quit moving. The engine idled but the throttle would not work. I would sit there on the side of the road waiting for the throttle to engage. I would turn on and off the AC and lights etc trying to change the power usage and eventually it would engage the throttle except once I got a friend to tow me home even though the engine still ran. After I turned it off and waited till the next day then it started and ran normal. I charged my dual batteries now and then and even bought two new ones. I took it to a shop and they said it was the alternator which was replaced and the throttle has not done that since but now I see the battery light is starting to flash again, only when the engine is in an idle situation like going down hill or coasting. Heads up for Super Duty owners. Having a throttle that will not respond is weird let alone frustrating.
