Can't believe that you made this video just as I needed to replace the thermostat on my 92' 300e! My car is even the same color! I have owned mine for nine years with virtually no problems, just the usual brake pads a tune-up stuff. As many know, the 124 series is possibly one of the best cars ever made! Thanks for the advice, it really helped!!!

Glad to help, the w124 is indeed an amazingly well built car. I sold mine a few years ago however as I really didn't care for the m103 engine. I would definitely own one if the diesel models though. Currently I have a grey market 1997 E290 diesel wagon. When it rusts out I'm going to put the drivetrain from it into a w124.

Thank you. I just bought a 1988 300se with a straight six. Running rough and sluggish with a bit of a hiccup at low speeds. Haven't run it up to top speed yet so I don't know. Difficult to find a good workshop manual and I need a map of the fuse values. The original label in the box was missing. Any ideas?

Great video! I changed mine wiht a new termostat from FEBI, 87 degrees, but it opens at 110. Same was the last one, WAHL 87 degerees, but opened too late, at over 105-110. Do you have any sugessions on how to fix this?

When you say they were opening late, did you test them in a pot of water or did your car just run at 110?

Should the screw atop my thermostat be screwed in, I can see my threads due to it not being tightened down

Didn't you let off the cooling water before removing the thermostat? I always let off about 3liters over the cooler. Then when I pull out the thermostat no water comes out. Then it also isn't needed to block the tube with pliers.

I could have for that, but the pliers were easy and did the job. I’m always nervous to take out the drain plugs on old radiators. I’d rather not risk it breaking.

any chance you would do this for a 1991 300SE 6 cylinder water pump replacement or write something out ?

Unfortunately I don't have one that needs a water pump to do a how to at the moment. However if you sign up for this site w124-zone.com/news.php you can access the w124 factory service manual. The m103 engine in your w126 should be identical to the one in the w124 so the steps should be the same. Sorry I can't be of more help

    How reliable are these cars

    • @JustFixIt99

The 4matic cars are notorious for blowing transfer cases and should be avoided. The build quality of the RWD versions is excellent overall and the w124 is one of the best cars ever built. That said, the m103 engine that the earlier cars use is a absolute pain to troubleshoot and keep running properly. Finding a shop if you don’t do your own work that knows the CIS injection system is also pretty near impossible.

@@JustFixIt99 these one guy is trying to sell me a 1988 Mercedes benz 190D it has 146000km mint condition its Diesel but I am scared to by it very nice car I tell but how reliable are the really

@@samyza200 So the 190D is the W201 Chassis, not the w124. It is also a diesel. The Mercedes Diesel engines are amazing and extremely reliable. There were several different Diesel engines fitted to the 190D. All are excellent, however some of them are very slow. The beauty of these old mechanical diesels is that once they start, they are extremely unlikely to leave you stranded as all they need to run are air and fuel. No electricity required.
They are also very easy to work on, and have a huge support community.
If you drive the car and like it, I would buy it without any worried about it being unreliable. Change the fuel filters, change the oil regularly and it will serve you well.
      Absolutely go for it.

I’ve got a 89’ 260e ! What type of coolant do you use in your M103? Thanks.

Use only OEM or Zerex G-05. Anything else will degrade the plastics that MB uses in its cooling system over time.
