considering the new Indycar has less downforce im surprised it is still faster than the LMP1 car! also only 25 seconds to the current/2004 f1 cars is only what 0.5sec per corner? thats pretty close
@@Daz5Daz Yeh but wouldn't removing that much downforce slow it down on circuits, like street circuits... 🤔 I mean over all it only gains on Oval but becomes slower on pretty much every other track.
Can you please show the list of all the times around Nordschleife at the end of the video? Also please test out the Sauber Mercedes Group C monster next please!
Great video. Happy to hear the new Indycar has sparked an interest, it was long overdue but the car looks great and has provided some great racing already so it should get even better. They are talking about the next generation engine adding another 150 or more HP which should make them more like the awesome beasts of the 90's and early 2000s. Very cool stuff, I subscribed and will watch more.
You really should watch IndyCar more often! Great open-wheel series that has everything you could ask for: high-speed ovals, trick and technical road/street courses... give it a try!
So it has ground effect but it loses more downforce above the body because of the more simple aero work.. meaning an overall loss of performance and downforce? 🤔
I think you should do a series in different sims. About setups, driving styles. And general improvements for driving. Like Viperconcept does. It would make your community a lot better. And I'm sure it would bring more people to your channel and streams. Always great watching you drive man! Also you should make a series from this. Similar to what FailRace does. Take mods. And vanilla cars in AC or rFactor. And make a leaderboard for the fastest cars. And also make a group. Like Hatchbacks, FWD, RWD, Turbo, NA. To see which cars are the fastest around your track of choice. I would watch this even if it was an hour long. Good luck man. I know you don't really have time for editing. But I'm sure people from your community would help you out :)
I have to ask... Have you ever considered a career in commentating or sports announcing? You are a natural. You have a amazing ability to think and speak very quickly, be witty and on your toes with your comments and observations..
Cheers Jimmy. Don't get me wrong. You are super fast on the sims. But you sure as hell belong on the TV booth. You sound like Murray Walker sibling. Awesome videos.
I agree that the car looks nicer than the original IR-12 (it’s still the same basic frame). This may sound very unpopular, but I do like the look of the old Indycar as well. However, this does look easier on the eyes. Smoother bodywork, no air box, none of those pesky bumpers… This really brings me back to the CART days.
Hey Jimmy, try the Daewoo Tico for a bit of a rough and tumble around the track. Just kiddin...maybe? ^ ^ Would like to see a rally car around the Nordschleiffe tho'
I'm just getting into racing with this category, but I have to say I love fighting with finding the grip with these cars. Haha, coming from an American F1 fan...
Cool idea! I've seen you also did Nordschleife Nürburg in F1 and Formula E, which was great. What i'd like to know, how fast could a LMP2 or 3 Car go on Nordschleife? If you ever have the mood for find out, I gladly like to watch it! Thx
The number one excuse people use to say indy is trash is that" its a spec series" lol and that just means its more about driver skill id take that over watching the same 2.5 teams win year after year (red bull is on the decline we can all see it). This is from someone whos a fan of both
i just watched your video where you take senna's f1 car around this track but on asseto corsa, how precise is the actual track between different sim games ?
Great vid as always...I’d like to know what software you use to record your VR footage in. Or what program you use to edit your footage. I record oculus stuff using shadow play and I get desktop bars on top and bottom. Thanks for any info. :)
Can you do a LaFerrari/P1/918 difference like on Top Gear? Doesn't have to be Nordschliefe, a shorter track that you know reallly well ::) Would be awesome to see the times.
I don't know how it's implemented in iRacing, but were you using your push-to-pass? Might be able to squeeze a few more seconds off that time if you weren't.
By taking away all of that downforce they hope it will improve racing on short ovals, street courses and road courses by forcing drivers to slow down more in the turns and by increasing tire degradation.
The can MrStig691. Watch the Races in Baltimore for example where they drove over the rail tracks. Or the Race in San Jose like Big Smoke posted already.
I'd love to see the Indycars from 2015-17. The aerokits provided just so much downforce, the laps they could pull around the Nordschliefe would have to be quick.
Now get into AC and do one in the Lotus 98T Also this track looks a lot wider and shallower than in AC? Is its the game or is it just Jimmers FOV settings being diffrent from mine?
simon aarnes Since Jimmer's using VR in this vid, the FOV should correspond with reality 1:1. I agree iRacing's Nordschleife looks more shallow than AC, but the width looks more or less the same to me. I'm using a fairly low (but correct) FOV of 32° in AC, however, so that might play a role. Since both tracks are laser scanned, they shouldn't differ much, if at all.
True, didn't even think about the fact that this is vr. I use the standard FOV in AC and it looks tighter than this, might be it just looks tighter when you try to get some 1000kg of metal and some 500++ bhp around it without binning it. I assumed both tracks were scanned thats why I found it so odd.
It looks like it's supposed to in iRacing, like a proper track. In AC and other games it feels like you're looking at a tiny track that's no wider than the car itself, there's no sense of space or size.
Might be, atleast the first bit before the first straight, feels very narrow, but after that it feels/looks wider, but still a bit narrow for a modern racetrack. I honestly never been there so I don't know.
watching your vids sent me out to buy a rift, but I was unhappy with the quality so I returned it. now I'm annoyed and waiting for 2nd gen headsets, waiting to build a super computer and waiting for fanatec DD wheel..... it's all your fault.

SRT Tomahawk X lap time sub 3:30.000
Still blows my mind that you can live comm with such detail whilst driving full throttle! mad respect Jimmy and keep up the great work!
Jimmy, you are by far the most fun of any sim racer to watch, your commentary is great and so enthusiastic. Keep up the good work mate.
6:08 You would see your whole life flash before your eyes if that happened in real life
I assume the loss of downforce is all about when the car is in its oval setup with the tiny rear wing.
I think you would barely have enough time to shit your pants...
And even in sim when that happens it makes 2 seconds feel like half an hour
BIG MOMENT

The 2018 Indycar gets 66% of its downforce from the underside, unlike every other indycar before it which got only 30% from the underside
Ground effects ftw.
So it has ground effect but it loses more downforce above the body because of the more simple aero work.. meaning an overall loss of performance and downforce? 🤔
ғɪʟʟ 1ɴ ᴛ҉ ʜ3 ʙʟᴀɴᴋs Correct. Indycar significantly reduced downforce after 2015 in favor of better racing.
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks they had wings on top of wings, and one more above that. It was getting ridiculous.

Nice lap Jimmer, now I really want to buy the Indy car, but I've already spent like £40 on iRacing this week.

I said it’s a different car, but still the same base frame.

I didn't know it either, but one of your (Jimmer) awesome subs pointed me to it during a stream! Thanks for that!
Yep, usually only about 4 days after the live broadcast, with all of the US ad breaks removed.
Yeah, this is why IndyCar is so great. They want as many people to see the races as possible, even if they lose money from it.
Otherwise, the "usual" live stream sites should help you out ;)

How can Indycar be hard to watch in the UK? They post the freaking races on their official RUclips channel!
In 1995 a Ford Thunderbird averaged 195 mph on the 90 mile Silver State Classic course. High trap speed of 215 mph. Oh yes, it was a NASCAR racer.
