I have a Toro personal pace recycle 22" and love it. As always with small engines I run high octane gas and marvel's mystery oil. Most of these newer small engines are hanging on the raggedy edge of lean from the factory to satisfy the EPA. Add a little carbon build up and some ethanol migrating out of the gas into the water that condenses in your fuel can = low octane, and damage to the motor. I've run several Brigg's and Stratton newer engines over 5 years with no special care besides the high octane gas and the marvel's. I even mix it with my 2 stroke fuel and oil, and I run that rich as well and have never had any issues with ethanol in anything I own from weed eaters to chainsaws. A quart of it is like $6 at Wal-Mart and you can treat 4+ gas cans with it. I've had ethanol gas sit in the shed all winter and used it without issue.

Just FYI for these new recyclers that don't require the oil changes the running lean thing isn't necessarily true. The compression is higher and the tolerances are much tighter to reduce blowby and such for the no oil change feature. As such they don't have to run lean to make power and are also safer than older ones with ethanol.
Dave, the Briggs no change oil engines are made with tighter clearances so there is less blow by and therefore less oil contamination. So the viewers need to understand this. You can not compare it to a conventional small engine. Also, Keep in mind most lawn mowers do not have oil filters and any metal particles and debris will stay in suspension. Food for though. Hi dblaylock22, A good self-propelled mower with a strong drive is going to be hard to find at the $400 dollar price these days with all the inflation going on. Hey Dave, I know little about mowers but I'm looking at the 2022 Toro 21 inch Recycler (model # 21332). It is not self propelled, but does have Briggs and Stratton motor (140cc), the no-prime ready start, and same oil system as yours (no oil changes, just maintain oil level). I have a small, flat yard and am 50 yrs old and very capable of pushing a mower, so I don't really require self propelled. I realize this isn't the mower you reviewed, but it's so close (same brand, engine brand and type) I was curious if you thought this would be of similar quality to yours. (I will maintain properly and use fuel stabilizer). I certainly don't expect you to research this mower, just wondered if you had any insights or recommendations. Thank you.
Hi Jim, I think this will be a great mower for your needs not sure if this model has the high wheels in the rear that makes a mower a bit easier to push. @@DavesShop Hey Dave, thanks so much for the quick response. (I subscribed to your channel, your videos are extremely well made and very informative). The mower I mentioned does have the large rear wheels, that's a feature I was specifically looking for but failed to mention in my message to you. I believe I'll go with this Toro Recycler..as I said it's pretty much got every feature to the engine as the one you reviewed, aside from self propulsion, which I don't really require given the size of my yard. The only thing that's staying in the back of my mind is the "no oil change" feature. Of course I'll always monitor oil level, and keep it properly filled, but I may still drain it every season for an actual change. (I assume it doesn't have a plug to drain the oil, but I do have a device that I can use to "pull" the oil out, at least the vast majority). I may be overthinking and find this step unnecessary (I did see where your oil still looks pristine after using the mower a while and just adding as necessary)...just being an "older guy" it amazes me the engine can function well this way. But, engineering has come a long way and if my oil still looks as good as yours I'll just monitor and maintain proper level. Also, I'll certainly use the fuel stabilizer you mentioned. Thanks again..I'll be enjoying your videos in the future.

Hi Rolando, If you have St. Augustine grass I would set the mower height to one level below the highest level. As a general rule during the heat of the summer all grasses should be mowed anywhere from 3 to 4 inches in height. I would raise it to the next level and if that's not high enough then raise it again. Ethanol gas causes a scale deposit in carb makes needle valve stick witch can make the engine Flood with gas or engine won't get gas. Your needle valve will stop up with scale deposit. Hey sorry with the questions, but when it comes to cleaning the lawn mower, is it safe to run water all over it with the spark plug dislocated and then dry it thoroughly before use?
Hi Ardit, I rinse mine after every use but only after the engine has cooled down then dry the excess water off with my blower or a dry towel if you don't have a blower. In regards to the no oil changes advertising that this mower has I do think there is some truth to it but I still think you should change the oil but probably not as often as you would with a regular mower I think you should probably change it every 2 to 3 years instead of every single year like you would with a regular mower that does not have that feature otherwise you're probably only going to get about 5 to 7 years out of the engine before you have problems but if you do oil changes you should probably get at least 15 to 20 years

Engines will love you if you change your oil regularly. New mowers, recommend change the oil after the first 5 hours. I always recommend oil changes every 20 odd hours. Look after your mower engine and it will look after you. Old oil on a microscopic level can damage your engine, regardless of how it looks to the naked eye.
Hi Adam, I agree usually I change the oil on my mower once per season. This mower hasn't had the oil change in 3 years and still running. I haven't even had to add any oil still shows full. The warranty on the motor is 3 years. So many people don't know how or want to change the oil on mowers these days they just use them until they quit. I have another mower so I am using this one just to see how long it will last without changing the oil. I’m looking for a gas powered rwd for steep hills and I’m 6’2”. What would you recommend? Budget is around $400.
Hi dblaylock22, A good self-propelled mower with a strong drive is going to be hard to find at the $400 dollar price these days with all the inflation going on. I have very thick grass and hills on my lawn and use a Honda self-propelled mower it has a very heavy-duty self-propelled drive, but they start around $600. @@DavesShop Thanks for the reply! I’ve had a Toro recycler for about 11 years and have been pretty pleased with it. I was thinking about getting another one but was interested in the Honda. I just wasn’t sure which was a better option for a tall person.
@@dblaylock22 I like both Toro and Honda they are well-made machines.
Is this mower strong enough for tall humid grass ? Or will it bug down ? And do you add oil regularly?
@ericlaflamme2504, Yes it will cut tall grass you may have to make several passes depending on how short you want it.
Is there any way of adjusting speed on this model?
They show the turtle symbol
in manual, but, how to get to?
objuan6, Unfortunately this model does not have speed control but it get better after you have used the mower a couple of times. Thanks for taking the time to watch my video and comment if you haven't subscribed to my channel please consider that along with clicking the notification bell so you don't miss out on any future videos. I have mine at the 2nd lowest setting for both the front and back. I keep thinking it’s cutting too short, thoughts? I haven’t tried the 3rd yet.
Hi Rolando, If you have St. Augustine grass I would set the mower height to one level below the highest level. As a general rule during the heat of the summer all grasses should be mowed anywhere from 3 to 4 inches in height. I would raise it to the next level and if that's not high enough then raise it again.

Question should you empty your mower of gas in the winter we’re not using the mower?
Hi Alexia, if you are using a fuel stabilizer mixed with your fuel it should be good without emptying out the fuel tank. Fuel-stabilized gasoline keeps for one to three years.

Ethanol gas causes a scale deposit in carb makes needle valve stick witch can make the engine Flood with gas or engine won't get gas. Your needle valve will stop up with scale deposit. Like the man says use a fuel treatment . Or Marvel mystery oil seems to be the best for me. And a little B-12 chemtool kicks ass to! So my beautiful people listen to this guy he knows his stuff!

Is this model 21321? My RWD goes 90 miles an hour and there is no way to turn it off (lever doesn’t work, it’s on constantly). Am I missing something? Thank you.
Hi Clint, at first mine was very fast to walk behind but after a few uses it got better. The lever sounds like it may be broken it should not stay engaged all the time. I have this exact model. The mower shoots grass clippings and leaves from under the deck out by the front right wheel. Did you have this problem? Is there an easy fix ?
Hi Alexandre, check to make sure you don't have a build-up on underneath the deck take a high-pressure water hose to clean it that's were I would start.
You don't need to disconnect the spark plug before rinsing with water.

I have alot of mulch grass blowing back on me when mowing my yard. Any suggestions?
Hi Vincent, Not sure what part of the country you are in but I am in Texas and this time of year I have a lot of grass that is still dead from the winter, and when I mow I get the same thing so I try to use my bag to catch a lot of it. Once the lawn and greened up I just do seem to have that much grass blowback on me. If the oil is dark? do I change the oil ? But the oil in level stick is in the level range.
Rique, if you have one of the Toro Recycle models 21 or 22 and the oil is dark and dirty and this is just my opinion I would change the oil. I would also check the air filter and if its very dirty change it too.

How would you winterize the B&S mower engine?
Change the oil,air filter and clean the exterior including the underneath. Make sure if you are leaving fuel in the tank that it has fuel stabilizer in it. Keep it in a storage building or garage out of the weather. I also start mine once a month during the winter. Hi Gregory, Wow that's great to hear most people think that the Recycler motor is a scam but mine works great even after 3 yrs it really didn't need the oil changed. I think it's just important to make sure you change the air filter yearly this really helps keep the oil clean. Thanks for taking the time to watch my video and comment if you haven't subscribed to my channel please consider that along with clicking the notification bell so you don't miss out on any future videos.
