^same with me, I just threw in the towel on Remo after 25+ years, now using Evans and they're great, will try this aquarian dot though, need that clear CS Dot equivalent for my carbon fibre snare.
Talking on the dot head topic. I was able to get some 2nd hand ludwigrockers heads. Unfortunately the 14" broke :( but i was given a bunch of coated snare heads which were all ludwigrockers. The 13" silver dot roxker is still holding together nicely but has wear and tear
I had my Aquarian performance 2 power dots on my Ludwig 7 piece kit for 5 years (still have them in a box for possible use again) Aquarians durability is insane, hands down my favorite drum head brand!
I played Evans for years after being disappointed with Remo's quality control. Then I used some Evans clear batter heads (EC2 and G2) and they started pitting after only a few weeks of use. Then I started using the Aquarian Performance 2s and I was blown away by how big and fat they sound on toms! Super durable too!
Aquarian drum heads are starting to be recognized by a lot more players these days.Ive always been a big fan of the studio x series, might have to give these a try. Haven't had any problems with remo, but definitely not a fan of evans.!!!
The Srudio X is where I go when I want maximum clarity of articulation that cuts through. Especially with the Hi-Frequency on the reso side. But right now, my live kit has these Power Dots on them and they're not too far away in attack and articulation! I love Remo too. Evans... Not so much.
Digging the upgrades you have been making lately! Sounding pretty sweet. Back in the day when I used to play (over 10 years ago...damn), most of what I was familiar with were always Remo heads, which I liked a lot, at the time. I did have an Aquarian kick drum head installed though, and I really really loved the sound on that. So much so, that if I had continued playing, I probably would have definitely transitioned to giving Aquarians a shot on my whole set. Sadly, the band fizzled shortly thereafter, and the rest kind of did not long after:/ I still have the set (Tama Rockstars) though!! I would never part with those:) Thanks for sharing!
I couldn't agree more with your assessment of Remo. I have been playing for 48 years and Remo was it for nearly 35 of those years. Coated Emperors top of toms and snare..with clear Ambassadors on toms and clear diplomat on the snare drum. But about thirteen years ago I started to notice they had tuning issues...the coating was removed much more quickly and they didn't sound as bright as they used to sound. So I went back to Silver Dots from Ludwig..(when they still made their own) and I loved them..but they stopped making them and the new reissues don't sound remotely like the old ones. Then I switch to Aquarian. Texture coated on the snare and toms...and classic clears on the bottom. I love them. They are whiter in clear..which I like..the coated is extremely durable and they are more durable as a one ply over Remo so I get the sound of a 10 ml ply with more durability
Yeah, it's weird. They used to be the best, now they're the worst. People still seem to buy them for some reason though. I think Evans heads are quite good as well.
@@demonicsweaters I never found a sound in Evans that I liked. Their film is very different than either Remo or Aquarian. Not good or bad..just different and they provide a tonal color I just haven't connected with.
I loved the Ludwig Silver Dots. I've played Remo since 1987. I just got tired of tuning then up and keeping them in tune. The Aquarian heads are phenomenal. Rugged in build but rich in sound and tonality. I love that they tune up fast, and hold their tone. I did use Evans through the four years I was in high school (91/92, 94/95). 95 was when they sold to D'Addario I switched back to Remo. On May 13th I recorded my first professional recording using Aquarian heads, and I was very impressed! I have Texture Coated on the snare, Texture Coated Super 2 tom batter, Classic Clear resonant, and the Superkick 2 / Regulator on the bass drum. I did order the Classic Clear Power Dot for my toms though. The kit I keep at home will probably get the Studio X.
I like your decent playing. Nice sounding cymbals. That bright sound, unusual nowadays. Is this Tama Imperialstar bop kit? I have similar Tama's Club Jam which is my second rehearsal and travel kit (18, 14, 10 with Acrolite snare) and I really enjoy playing them.
Thanks, yeah I grew tired of the dark/trashy sounds a while ago. All those cymbals are starting to sound the same. And yeah it's an impiralstar bop. Tama didn't make this one very long, only about 6 months or so in 2015. They now sell used for more than they were new! Those club jams are really cool.
Yes, it's Imperialstar Bop Kit, sorry, I was writing this post during watching your new video ;). I also have stock heads on bottom which actually came as the top heads. They are ringy, so I had to put cotton balls into my floor tom and stuck moongel on 10" reso head.
Aquarian are far superior heads. The hoop is thicker than even Evans so it fits the rims better. Basically the rim doesn't wobble around as much on the head.
I know Aquarian, has been around awhile.. and I know they are heard of often now days.....but I really wish nobody would have came over to aquarian….I've been with this head a long time....and what use to make me unique, and have the "thud" everyone wanted...is now becoming a thing others, are getting hip too....you, select few... who do use them.....think "black ops".....tell everyone, you use Remo....and that these heads... are no good, they bust way to easy....If we are going to remain ahead of the Remo headers and evens headers....it's a must bc we all know they will slowly make their way...lol. I've known Aquarian was killing these other companies, since 94.when I said i'm Aquarian from here out..I just really hate watching my thing go to the others. lol I see more and more drummers coming over to the head of all heads! Best to u guys drum on!!
Same and same, I’m really enjoying that snare but a little ehh on the toms. There’s something about the way that Aquarian’s sound on toms and bass drums to me that just isn’t quite what I’m looking for, but I can completely see why people do love them. But for some reason any Aquarian snare head I’ve tried has been great.
I too switched from Remo to Aquarian and It was the best decision ever!!! I love the way my kits sound now.
Nice! Plus they just last so much longer!
Full and articulate.
I just put a set on my drums, and I couldn't be happier!
Aquarian man since I started playing 3 yrs ago 💪🏾 they are amazing
I quit using Remo for the same reason you did. I played them for 20 years, now I'm an Aquarian head guy.
^same with me, I just threw in the towel on Remo after 25+ years, now using Evans and they're great, will try this aquarian dot though, need that clear CS Dot equivalent for my carbon fibre snare.
Just ordered an aquarium power dot I can't wait to try it

I know they last forever. The set of Studio X heads I had on here before putting these ones on were on for years and never went bad.
@@demonicsweaters that's awesome!, yes so durable, Love Aquarians safe t loc hoop the best head hoop design 👌!
Thise heads last forever! Very deep and punchy.
Dude those Aquarian heads sound great been playing them for a couple months and it’s been great dude
Awesome video, thank you. I'm going to give them a try on my 60's Slingerlands.

The intro is super fun.
Yeah.
Snare sounds great!

How do these Aquarian drumheads compare to the Remo Vintage Emperor Coated ? Great video!
These are more comparable to Remo CS Black Dots.

Is it a single ply?
Yep!

Yeah, I think they're the highest quality. Evans are decent too and the G2 is very affordable, so I often opt for it on a lot of things too.
spent a bunch of money in my 25+ years been Remo fan ,...but, it's time to make a change
Imma says those are great sounding, but for me, Remo Black Dot has fitted well to me rather than this.
Great demo, bro. Keep it up!
Man they sound way better than remos sound controlled. I cant wait for mune to arrive!
Mine arrived and it sounds fantastic

one of my kits still has the damn tommy lee power dot signatures on it. great head!
Orion Benjamin yea man ik how you feel. I love my Response 2 coated heads! They’re fat and full of great projection
I felt that way about Paiste in the 90's.
late to the party, not fond of the toms. that snare sounds amazing though
